I just like making simple posters because it is a similar process to branding / logomark creation, so when I saw Rusty's posters I decided to try a few out. I don't know whose style it is, but its fun and provides a quick composition exercise.

someone tell me everything's going to be okay!!!
it's alright rusty, everyone has artists they idolise and it often spills over into their own work, it's happened to me before.
just have to make sure you're not blatantly copying their style. push yourself. try to find your own way of doing things (not to say you haven't)
at the moment i can't get enough of Matthew Lyons.
eeeeeee!
so you know that place i'm going to in march - may, honey creative (http://www.honey.co.uk/design/our-work). and then i got called up a few weeks ago because they were super busy so i went and did a few extra weeks with them, although they already had a placement student, and that went well. but it quietened down again so i'm back looking for new placements. anyway the lady who was sort of mostly supervising us has now left and gone to a new company, and she just left me a voicemail saying would i be interested in doing an internship at this new company she's at. she said if i was interested could i go in and see her, and also she was thinking i could do it from now until march (when i go to honey), so that sounds pretty positive!
my only (massive) fear is if they don't pay. even if they cover travel expenses and lunch it's gonna be tricky... but i'm trying not to get too far ahead of myself. i'm gonna phone her back tomorrow and hopefully this will go well!

this is the new place http://www.lfh.co.uk/
so i had a few hiccups with this. i tried to phone her back the day after she left that voicemail (a tuesday), 3 times and it just rang out. on the thursday, after she rang my housemates, i left her a voicemail. tried her again on friday, no answer. left her another voicemail on the following monday, then she rings me back on the tuesday and says "you never phoned me back, now the calendar's full and i'm not sure if i can take you at all"... which was really disappointing.
anyway me and 2 of my flatmates went for an informal interview with another guy at this company and it seemed to go well, though i wasn't holding out much hope since she said they were already "fully booked".
but she just phoned me and formally offered me 4 weeks in feb! not quite as good as what she originally proposed, but definitely better than nothing and i'm glad for it. now i have 4 out of my 6 months sorted, phew!

Don't know why, but the girls' face in that place is really bothering me, probably because that's where the actual face sbould be :v:
does anyone have proof of a thin stroke ever working well on text?

there's too little contrast in the photos

is should have chosen gray
Any better?

EDIT feels too red. may get back to that
EDIT Ok, now slightly less red. I'm not sure I like it with higher contrast, though, what looks better?

i thought about just as outlines but then i don't really count that as a stroke on visible text gives a much different impression

put a close up picture of clint eastwood's face where clint eastwood's face should be
instead of just making it darker, add more contrast. the contrast is still just as poor as it was before, all you did was make them overall darker. adjust the levels better
Thought I would post my TF2 Propoganda Posters from a while back just for shits and giggles, I'm much better at branding than posters and this was a while back (I've improved drastically even in the last half year), but I was happy with them at the time. I just like injecting content here and there. The last one was mainly a digital painting experiment (yes, I did trace pretty much, yes I do suck at digital painting). Oh and just to cover the last of my bases ( I think ), these were all mostly live-traced (the images) because I was whipping them off quickly.

I don't like the black, maybe make it dark colour similar to the photos?
Thanks for all the input, I really appreciate it.

I reckon it's looking much better now, Is there anything else? I tried some grungy textures but I wasn't happy with it.

what's the little line that goes down in the middle of the head?
Clint has a scar down his face in the film. although i'm starting to think that it doesn't look so good like that

maybe, it could be a cool little thing for people who've seen it
but as someone who hasnt it looks a little odd

I see what you mean. I think I'm going to keep it in, The guy I'm making it for is a big fan of the film.

Then why does it go over his hat?
Then why does it go over his hat?
it doesnt, the point of view is from beneath the brim of his hat

That's not what the shape implies.

it's either pointing up or down, and I don't think that cigarette shape is coming from his ear
or maybe his head is still tilted that way but pointed left
im confuse

See, one thing is how it looks as an image.
But it doesn't translate well when there is no defining lines for where his hat ends and where his face begins.
And when you said that was a cigarette I also noticed how stupid his poking hair looks. It's like a monster opening it's jaw right now. Should probably make it look more like hair, gothiclampshade.
I would also suggest actually making the hat shaped like the actual hat.

err this red circle didnt point out anything and the shape doesnt at all imply that it's viewed from above the brim, in fact i saw it first as it's meant to be

It points out the shape of the hat as it's made out right now.
yes i know.
im not sure what you're seeing there but it still looks like its being seen from underneath to me
Im not sure what you're seeing there but it still looks like its being seen from underneath to me
It doesn't to me. And Wewt even thought he looked sideways, thinking the hair strand was a cigarette. So it obviously has a lot of errors in how the forms read at the moment.
The main problem is that he added a bulge on the left side of the hat that doesn't exist. It's supposed to skew downwards to the left, but he just made it straight with a slight skew down to the right.

Make the hat skew a bit more down to the left in your illustration. I know the illustration is rotated so it looks straight when it isn't. But I think making it slope slightly more down to the left would do the trick in making it look more right.
But the main problem stands, since you don't have a separation between the hat and the face you can't really tell that the hat goes up over his forehead since part of the hat goes behind his head. Thus throwing some weird scar on the illustration just makes it look odd because it goes over what we think is his hat.
Oh, and the right shoulder is cut off. You made part of the gun part of his body.
Should look like this:

Also just a quick colour suggestion. It makes the form of the pistols a bit harder to distinguish, but I thought that it could work as it went more along with the colour team at the bottom, if you don't like it don't do it. Also made the names in the same brown since there was no other parts that were black in the illustration it seemed odd having their names black when the brown is as dark as it is.
