So I'm designing a poster for a show, and I need put a few things on it (bands playing, time, door charge) but I'm new to designing (I've taken classes in photoshop, I'm just new to creative design, and coming up with things) and I cant find a neat way to layout text of various sizes and make it look organized.
The poster wont be printed so any aspect ratio is fine, but does anyone have good examples of posters for events that have only text/shapes?
Font contrasts and gridsystems.
you mean like a drop shadow on the mountains? i tried that, it was ok but i preferred it all being flat colours.
no, keep most of it a solid color, but with just a little bit of shadowing around the edges, to make it stand out more

Quickly recreated a small doodle into a wallpaper, how does it look?
what a coincidence, i was listening to the richard cheese version of that song earlier today!
i like the style, nicely shaped and the shadowing is good but i'm not overly keen on the type. maybe it doesn't need to be as chiselled(?) looking at the brain?
Thanks, I tried it but I don't think it helps that much.

Maybe to explain it a little: when I started I first did the brain all smooth, later I changed that to be sharp edged because of the text I added.

Quite like the crazy letters, goes with the insane theme. :v:
Also got suggested to makes ones with colours for gradient.
actually if they're bigger they're more legible, just in the first pic you posted i feel they lose a bit of clarity with the angles and stuff
Wait, here's the full sized thing then:

Maybe basing the writing on my own choppy handwriting wasn't that much of a good idea. hah.
maybe its just me but having some letters capital and some lower case looks bad and is kind of annoying. It's obviously going for a "hectic" style, just make it all caps

It's obviously going for the style of a person that has gone insane in the membrane. So why would that person be able to write correctly at all?
Personally I just think the font needs a bit more clarity for the letters and be a bit thicker. Making it more readable without removing the style and look.
Less chiseled and more cutout maybe?

i think theres a bit too much negative space in both the hand and the black space
Two alternatives:

I like this one the most

People sure love that style.
The folds are a little overdone on this one imo.
im getting juuuust a bit tired of it tbh
Problem is, It's pretty hard to produce a good looking poster in any other way without hires photos.
Also, I've noticed how that simplistic style looks great if you've watched the film and understand the reference, but I doubt they'd be any good at actually selling the film. Which is a shame, because I wish film posters these days were a little more varied in style
I agree, I was trying quite hard to think of a unique style to myself, or something different anyways. It isn't easy. So I made that.
Quick typy thing I made for the 2 week modding thing in the Valve games section.
Well, in the highlights of this thread we have a very fine example of a poster for a music show

Ya, you haven't really posted much content lately, especially not posters really (unless I'm remembering wrong).
Working on a poster thing for an art show my town's having in a few months.
Can someone give me some tips on what I have so far? I'm r8 bad at graphic design.

The composition of the text is quite wacky, it looks aesthetically pretty good, but it is really quite a scattered text lay-out. Try to centralize a bit more and make sure to emphasize and most importantly group important pieces of information. Also, I feel like there are too many different fonts.
Looks like it is coming along well so far though.
(The red line under the top text keeps drawing my eye there.)

I love the art palette thing, and the text is good as well but like smeetin said, it's not arranged very nicely.
Yeah that arrangement is really pretty bad. There's a load of negative space to the right of the art department highschool bit, a bunch of negative space where the palette is, and there are far too many fonts. Also, the text scrunched towards the bottom left really doesn't work. I like the 11th Anual Student Art Show bit.
I didn't really change the text position cause I wasn't sure what I should change, but I added some stuff cause my teacher was saying it looked too plain. I'm not sure I like it yet.

Should center the date and time, maybe increase the size of that text as well, it's just about the most important information on there so it should be very in your face.
