I'll see if that looks good, but what about the paint splatters? I think they definitely make the piece more interesting but maybe I should use some more colors for them instead of the current ones on the left side, and the ones on the bottom bit sort of look like blood, which isn't what I was going for haha

You could probably make them more neutral in the corner, yeah. But I think colours should be left around the palette, because if not the focus is suddenly all over the place.
watch spelling on it too. It's spelled ANNUAL, not ANUAL

Do you have any pictures of pieces of art that are going to be displayed? Adding paint splatter seems like the wrong thing in my mind, it might be good to have a piece of art from the exhibit in the background.
Or maybe taking it in a different direction try making the paint palette bigger - fill up that space a bit more?
So, I created a new personal site from scratch as the previous one was beyond horrible.

It's simple, and I still have to put my portfolio up. Some stuff looks plain, but this is just one-day work and I'll keep adding other stuff to make it look better. I'm satisfied with it.

Lol, I just noticed it's completely fucked in IE9. Not sure why. Looks perfect on chrome and firefox nonetheless.
Every time I make any website I find out that it's fucked in IE. Always.
Every browser can display correctly my terrible code, therefore, IE is inferior. :v:
I don't design websites very often, and I make over exaggerated claims against IE that are not true or practical, don't listen to them and you will be safe.
IE is outdated and I don't design for it on purpose, I don't want people that use IE seeing my site anyways.
For me it's worrying though, since it's my personal, professional site. it's quite likely that a potential client uses IE. Even more if they're computer illiterates, as they often are.

sorry mate that's just fucking dumb. IE is just as valid as anything especially in the recent versions. you're just limiting yourself over something so pointless as what browser someone uses. if your sight doesn't work just as well in IE as it does in anything else then you should feel awful about yourself.
IE should be the one you focus on the most

I agree, that comment was made in a fit of passion thinking of all the friends lost to IE in year 2 web design in high school.
IE still has over 50% of the browser market, so ignoring that browser when designing websites would have to make you one of the stupidest web designers ever.

Crossposting from H&S because i'm sure some of you use drawing tablets

In illustrator is it possible to make text flow to another text box? sort of like columns in a newspaper
not as far as i'm aware. and i'm sure you're only asking because you were expecting it to be like it is in InDesign?
illustrator doesn't handle copy at all well
yeah the text for the packaging runs on to 2 columns and it would be easy to replicate if I made a huge text box and separated it into 2 columns but one column is shorter than the other and the first column needs a circle cut out of it at the top so that it doesn't run off of the packaging.
i do big budget special fx in illustrator

Everyone is always telling me that doing type in illustrator is a horrible idea, that it should be done in inDesign. Might be worth a shot unless you don't have inDesign.
they're right, type/layout should be done in InDesign
Has everyone forgotten about QuarkXpress? :(
How do you make 'hollow' shapes with the pen tool in photoshop? Like the letter O for example?
they're right, type/layout should be done in InDesign

How do you make 'hollow' shapes with the pen tool in photoshop? Like the letter O for example?
well what I do is that I draw a circle and then make it a selection and I fill it, then I make a smaller circle in it and turn it into selection and I use it as a mask.
Well, I discovered what the issue with IE was. The code was lacking a DOCTYPE so IE was displaying it in quirksmode, which would be the same as displaying it with no format. I also did some small changes to the site.

You either create a solid shape and then delete another solid shape within it to get an outline, or you create a solid shape, add a stroke, and reduce the 'Fill' to 0% so it just shows layer effects
Does anyone here have any experience with selling T-shirt (all clothing really) designs?

I'm thinking of making a career out of graphic design/web design and I was wondering, how much would a freelancer make doing commissions for websites/companies? How much money can be made per commission?
