So I've been trying to make a good logo for my school's student council. We used to have this; I like to keep things simple, and made these in a few minutes; Not only looking for C&C but also for improvements or completely new ideas for a logo. PS: 'LR' stands for 'Leerlingenraad', which is Student Council in Dutch.
you didn't "make" that fist it's the black panther fist maybe you vectored it but its a good idea to create a totally new fist
Didn't intend to imply I made the fist as well, my bad I suppose. What should be different in my 'new' fist then? I don't see anything wrong with the current one. Thanks for the advice, also. Got anything else you'd suggest?
because the one you're using is already being used? originally by the black panthers (i think) and then copied by everyone else? i didn't think i'd have to give reasons for originality
Aight then, I'll give that a try. Anything else?
something that doesn't look like a rounded gradient box
Try and play around with the letters, too. It's possible you could merge the letters with the fist if you find a font that fits. As Rusty said, a box with a logo in it + text + is not very attractive.

As you can see in the original I kinda made it so the 'LR' was a sleeve of sorts. Might try something like that again.
Yeah, that's a good choice, to make it a sleeve that is. You could try to find some apparel or clothing that fits the whole "student" thing. The fist could perhaps hold a pen or whatever [editline]30th June 2012[/editline] However; I think that the whole "fist" deal is portraying something else than it should. To me it sort of feels like a parody on something, I'm not sure - it may be the colors. Oh and speaking of the colors; spend some thinking on that too. What colors fits SCHOOL: should they be dramatic or calm, etc [editline]30th June 2012[/editline] Oh, I just looked up what "student council" was (it's elevkår in Swedish so know I understand perfectly). The fist doesn't seem to be a bad choice at all considering the situation it's used in, so nevermind about that :v:

Hi. I'm not sure where to post this...but I'm trying to get a Jim Henson/Muppet fan site off the ground. I wanna call it "Statler and Waldorf Salad" or just "Waldorf Salad". Based on this character, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statler_and_Waldorf Now..and I need a green banner with Waldorf's picture on it, a big salad and some green leafy letters for the site. BUT I am terrible with graphic design. and so I was wondering if anyone would be interested in making this for me/teaching me how to do this/or just generally explaining to me where I would go to do either of the first two things.

Never used Illustrator before. I could not find a good leafy font for the life of me. Any tips for this kind of stuff?

How should I go about doing the glass on the broken bottle? I'd like it to resemble the original logo as much as possible (therefore no highlights on the fluid) but something about that bottle feels not quite right yet.
your bottle is quite simple and minimal, but the crack and fluid aren't really. It looks to me like the crack and liquid were made in a hurry so you should probably try it first on paper and then take it to your porgram. Just use straight lines and 90º curves, simple stuff [editline]12th July 2012[/editline] And if it's better, just tilt it it 90º to the left/right, instead of going all the way to make it look like its on the floor
I really should take it to paper first, thanks.

i really wanted to redo the typography for this, and i need a second opinion
i really wanted to redo the typography for this, and i need a second opinion
Not bad, but I've always been of the opinion that if you have a logo your text should be simple, other wise you have two conflicting logos. At most I would suggest some kind of connection like using a piece of the logo as an accent or part of a letter in the type. Either way, I like the text used on the website better.
Did a promo for a friends scare attraction.
interesting idea, but what the hell are you doing to cause such terrible AA? also it's kind of too cluttered and grungy. i understand that that's the point, but it's really weird and just...ugh. personally, not to mention, i wouldn't use grunge fonts anyway, it's better to add the grunge to a font yourself. you got lucky by not having the same letters used twice, but still capture-it is kind of a shitty overused font

It's not that bad in the PSD The font was used for the reason that it didn't use the same letter twice. He wanted it over grungy... But yeah, not what I'd normally do.
wow, long time no post in this thread. Welp, I've been busy with uni. I did this layout for an article I had to write for Composition and rethoric class, we had to take an existing publication, write an article that fitted its publishing line and mimmick their design, so I took The Verge and made a printed version of it: [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/25318683/audiophiles-1.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/25318683/audiophiles-2.jpg[/thumb] Nevermind the article, it's terribly written and not very factual. I would like C&C on the layout though!
that looks very nice (the article does suck though)

It kinda works for the soundwave page because the visuals inside the black area is big and eyecatching, but on the second page with soundbars it's just unecessarily big. I can imagine it looking very nice in print.
So I'm working on creating a massive 4x2 foot Portal chamber sign. The problem is, the icons at the bottom of every sign don't exist in a large enough size. I'm working on creating my own, but there's no chance I'll be able to use my outdated Photoshop skills to create some of them in a way that matches my standards for quality (C2 for example). TL;DR I need to take a blown-up, fuzzy image and make the edges sharp. Any ideas?
That's not really possible without it coming out shitty, you're trying to enhance or improve something that isn't there. The best result would involve recreating them as you've been doing. I'd do it in a vector program though such as Illustrator or Flash using the pen tool. Then you can resize them without losing quality and it's way easier. They're all solid black shapes so it shouldn't be too difficult. Maybe look up some tutorials on using the pen tool. If you have to use photoshop, there's the pen tool in there as well.

This might just be a week-long project. I guess it'll be more satisfying when I get it printed.
Yeah it'll be worth it, especially if it's being blown up and printed.
