i have never liked the design of book covers. they're always so awkward and just bleh looking. like, all book cover design in general. i wish someone would buck the trend, but they don't wanna be the one person who's book doesn't look like a book I guess.

A Clockwork Orange is hipster deluxe and the kerning really annoys me. But yeah, Penguin are known for their covers, absolutely some nice designers at work.
yeah now when you are mentioning it ...
I love the Penguin Covers when they were using the "Marber Grid". They look amazing.
Work dump! I could really use some input on some stuff here! I posted some of mine already in the "Creative Works" thread but no one seems to reply ;-( I had to lower the quality to make the filesize smaller, so yeah! I don't know what else to put D: i have to make a LOT more for a dozen more projects by Nov 3 so i'm kind of freaking out. any help/input would be seriously appreciated!
How much should I offer a designer for a simple logo? I need one for http://www.tile8.com/ The current one is a placeholder I created. I can't afford a whole website design so I designed it myself. But a logo is quite important and I think its worth investing some in it. I have no specifications apart from that it should work with any color/size and fit the style of the website.
Anywhere between 200-2000 bucks. Depends on who you hire, how much you're willing for him/her to tailor it up and make revisions. There is usually no set price for any design, just an estimate based on how much time it usually takes, which is obviously varied between designers. Not too unusual to let the price be decided by how many hours he/she ends up spending, then maybe make a max limit on what you're willing to spend. There is basically no real answer and everyone operates and values things differently. But I can tell you that anyone that offers to do it very cheap devalues him/herself too much and probably won't give you the result you want because of his/her lack of self confidence. You might simply end up with something very generic or something tailored too much to what you want, and not what you need. You could also give sites like 99designs a shot, just don't make the competetition guaranteed, it won't attract as many designers as a guaranteed competition and in general the stuff most people make there is copy-cat stuff and just plain horrible things, but you might just be lucky, (of course, more money in the pot and making it guaranteed brings in more serious people) and you can just close the competition if nobody met your fancy since you don't make it guaranteed. It's a cheap tactic though and isn't really the place to go, but it's an alternative.
did some logos for a friend, he ended up picking the 3D one in the top right corner [editline]10th November 2012[/editline] disregard the metric fuckup on the red side of the 3D one, already fixed it [editline]10th November 2012[/editline]
Anywhere between 200-2000 bucks. hey guys, i'm trying to create a normal poster-sized (2 foot by 3 foot right?) image in Photoshop but am having trouble getting images that are high quality enough for the resolution needed... the basic premise is to use a picture from Google maps as a base, but my screen is only so large so I'm not sure how I can get a screenshot big enough to use on the poster... am I going to have to stitch together a whole ton of screen-sized chunks until I reach the size of my poster? :/
I don't know of any tech that would do what you want with google maps. That's not saying much though. However, in architecture, I usually do just take a bunch of screen caps and lay them out which is really quite easy because the images will match perfectly.
idk if there's a program that does it but you'll want something which takes supersample screenshots in a way which doesn't scale the UI of the webpage

What's your guys' opinions on this site for learning digital sketching/painting? http://www.ctrlpaint.com/ I've been watching some of the videos and I'm really considering paying for some of the premium ones.

Any digital artists/graphic designers up for a small gig? I need some billboard/poster-style images done for a Garry's Mod map. Naturally they won't be billboard/poster sized, but billboard/poster proportioned, in smaller, to be used in a map. I don't expect you to put hours of work into each either, however it still needs to be professional looking as chances are a whole lot of people will see them. Payment is not optional, it's a definite yes. Whether you want Paypal money, amazon/newegg giftcards or whatever, all that can be discussed. If you refuse to take money, I will gift you something on Steam. If you decline the gift, I will find you and rape you. As for how much I'm paying, sorry but I so happen to be a designer too, so I know that's a burden that often lays on the artist. Let me know, I have no budget but it has to be reasonable, I'm not a corporation. You can contact me on anything that's on my Facepunch profile. If you'd prefer something not listed, send me a forum PM and I'll look into your preferred messenger choice.
Can I ask what programs people use? In school I have access to Xara Photo & Graphic Design and a slew of Serif products.
The Adobe suite mostly, personally. Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash. Lots of pen and paper too. It really all depends on what I need to do.
since you call yourlsef a designer, why do you need to have something designed?
Time constraints / many other valid reasons. Lots of Graphic Designers get other people to design their company logos etc. And monkeys can you PM me some details? Can't guarantee I'll do it, but I'd be willing to give it a shot probably.
If Smeetin declines then I'll be up for the task.
For some reason I have been severely demotivated since March, so most of my school work since then has been pretty subpar or shit. But I also feel like just getting some of it out in the open. We just finished the exam for this semester, and I was quite happy with the poster I made, and I was relatively satisfied with the logo as well. Overall I was pretty up and down with the whole thing and never really ended up finding out just how to execute it, so the program and profilemanual weren't all that good. (I'll link to them later) self-made 3-day festival for animation across the globe. The theme I went for was the process of animation which gave birth to the flour sack being the mascot (and the reason it has paper texture, that godawful design trend element)
