Can I ask what programs people use? In school I have access to Xara Photo & Graphic Design and a slew of Serif products.
Because I have a huge update brewing for my gameservers alongside my finals and I'd like to outsource some of the stuff I need to do to be able to focus on other, more crucial stuff. :) Smeetin/dgg, could you guys link me to some of your work? I got a few people interested but I haven't quite made up my mind yet. This is really a one man task.

Just because I haven't posted anything in a while and I could use some more constructive feedback, I thought I'd post a couple things. Here's a full book jacket I did for a fake book. I actually got to print it out and put it on a book and I was pretty happy with it. Aaand here's a poster type thing I did after I decided to try out that style with Kraft paper and pen that guy does in the Creative Work thread. Ignore the body copy as it's just dumb rambling for compositional purposes. I know you're generally not supposed to have people face the border of the frame, but I thought it kind of fit the theme.
It works having him like that. I think the only reason you got away with it is because he is facing from left to right. If it was the other way round it would be way too distracting.
i hate humanist sans serif fonts so much
I almost always dislike them but I think a select few like Syntax work really well.
Loading screen logo for my Garry's Mod gamemode.
Loading screen logo for my Garry's Mod gamemode.
The balance seems a bit off, and the background showing through the logo dominates the logo because of the person. This is because: a)eye is drawn to human features. b)the human is more central to the text than the shapes of the logo. c) there are strong lines both in the shapes of your logo, and in the background image that lead the eye directly to the human. Its getting pretty good though, I just might try to include a human in the actual logo itself somehow, because right now the shapes of the logo seem very insignificant compared to the background image of the man jumping (which is much more relevant to parkour anyways). (could vector the scene you used in the background and try to use that somehow?) Also, I would use a much more dynamic and bold font. Then I would scale it up to be more in proportion to the mark (maybe have "the art of" smaller and above "parkour" so that it scales better and the type has some variation). It will hold up a lot better to the large and strong mark. Right now (and maybe its just a temporary font) the font-style doesn't seem right, it seems like a very calm font. Mainly the curves in the 'R's bother me for some reason. Looking good though, just needs some tweaking. Hopefully this critique is appreciated.
A funny thing that some of you might find useful. You know how they removed the Pixel Bender gallery from Photoshop CS6, right? You could use a crude but effective form of FXAA there - it was pretty rad. Apparently, if you have an nVidia GPU, you can force FXAA from the control panel on Photoshop.exe. And guess what - it works! Then you can just take a screenshot of your screen (yes - pretty convoluted, but hey - it's AA!) with the PrtScr button and paste it into Photoshop again. You can even repeat ad-nauseum until you get the desired amount of anti-aliasing. Here's a comparison of the two - left is with one pass of FXAA and right is without. Something I did as a test, havent touched Photoshop in a couple of months.
it is not very artistic but i am working on a cover for dredd because that movie was cool as hell [editline]26th December 2012[/editline] i like making covers okay
that is cool rusty i like the font
its all from assorted official poster art i just arranged and manipulated it
the curve of the second D is a bit off. the first one is fine, and the last also (i think) but the second just needs a little tweak [editline]26th December 2012[/editline] actually i think it might all (DREDD) need just a little tweaking. there're bits where it's not as crisp as the rest of the lettering, noticeable mostly on that D, the curve/leg of the R and the bottom right (and possibly top right) of the final D

i think its meant to look like its been roughly stencilled on hence the misshapen/blurry bits
decided to get around to doing this y/n? http://www.redbubble.com/people/rusty100/works/9786617-american-psycho-t-shirt
That doesn't break some kind of copyright? Other than that, yes.
who cares about that lol
Anyone that tries to make money from their work and aren't fucking retarded.
eh morally i think it's a grey area in graphic design to use existing, often copyrighted media as a basis for a work as long as you're not claiming it's completely your own invention. and the worst a company will ever do is just tell you to stop selling them. that and the shirt was mainly just for myself
No, not really. It's for the most part pretty black and white. Either you legally own your design or it's infringing someones copyright and you're doing something illegal. However, if there are just small parts of the design that infringes copyright laws and doesn't really contribute to the design as a whole, or it's a huge ass collage it starts becoming a grey area.
who cares about that lol
I agree for the most part, just saying cause a bunch of my tf2 themed shirts got taken down for simply using silhouettes of spy mask etc.

[editline]30th December 2012[/editline] it's like the j-walking of graphic design. technically it's illegal but nobody cares [editline]30th December 2012[/editline] unless you're doing it on a large scale. nobody cares when it's small potatoes.

so back when i was on placement at the start of this year i designed some little puzzles for the back of cadbury kid box things. it was the only thing on my entire placement that i worked on completely independently, and although at the time the company said they'd shown them to cadbury who had really liked them, i didn't know if they were just being encouraging or what. anyway, so i went to do some food shopping today and (to my delight!) i found my work on the back of the cadbury pack! they've altered it slightly, and gotten rid of the pretty background, but yay! it was a nice little surprise to see it's not much, but it's definitely made my day!
i think the font for the paragraphs is a bit too bold but awesome nonetheless!
had to do a poster for a charity organization of our own choice i chose the SF Food Bank.
apples will not fill ur stomach!! [editline]31st December 2012[/editline] the subtext is too close to the 'please donate today' it needs a little more breathing room [editline]31st December 2012[/editline] i feel like all the text is too close to the edges too
