finished this i guess
That's nice. I would love to see you do one that's more of your own thing though- like your other posters/covers. [editline]5th January 2013[/editline] where you play further with the border being his helmet, because i really like that. but the photography and stuff kinda overshadows it here. it would be so cool along other simple shapes and siluettes and whatnot. [editline]5th January 2013[/editline] oh, and the description on the back is far too long who would honestly take the time to stand around and read that when browsing blu-rays/dvds
im all postered out [editline]6th January 2013[/editline]
oh, and the description on the back is far too long who would honestly take the time to stand around and read that when browsing blu-rays/dvds
yeah but I don't want to write my own, I just got that off imdb. honestly a description doesn't even need to be there, it'd be an after market cover. something you print yourself for a movie you own. that's why I make these - because official covers require a lot of elements that just ugly up the cover. if you own it i am pretty sure you know what it's about. but it's just there to fill up space. nobody's gonna read it either way, bigger or smaller. who has ever even read the description on the back of a film? i know i haven't.
why are some random names highlighted in the description and some aren't, like ma ma is but dredd isn't that seems weird other than that i think it's great
Hey cats, I set up a DeviantArt group for the FP Creationism Corner. I'm still sussing out the rules and layout but you're all welcome to join and submit stuff! You can find it here If you have any suggestions please PM me here or post in the group. I may not have time to check back in this thread for replies to this post!
[img_thumb]http://i7.minus.com/icseUblMYqD9y.jpg[/img_thumb] I've been taking an Illustrator class for the past couple of months at school. This is the result of my latest project, Minimalist Movie Posters. I'm really enjoying the program and am also messing around with Inkscape at home.
too much grunge in the background, it would probably work better if you worked those circular streaks into clouds around earth and put it on a nearly plain background
This might not be a question about actual art but about the graphic design in terms of studies. Is anyone of you lucky enough to study graphic design with a focus on coporate design?
This might not be a question about actual art but about the graphic design in terms of studies. Is anyone of you lucky enough to study graphic design with a focus on coporate design?
Right now I'm still working on the basics, but I have to take classes for pretty much every area. I did get an excellent opportunity for an internship over the summer though with a company that's just starting up and getting their image together.
Well, I am really interested in that area, I would love to study something like that. The description and possible jobs sound like a dream. Unfortunately I am already in the third semester of psychology and I have no artistic knowledge at all. The issue is that you have to know the basics and even be possible to draw something to qualify for the studies. My focus on highschool was on business and whatnot.
This might not be a question about actual art but about the graphic design in terms of studies. Is anyone of you lucky enough to study graphic design with a focus on coporate design?
it's rare for any place that offers design studies to be purely corporate design/branding. generally they want to teach you in a fairly broad amount of areas so that not only are you better prepared for joining the working world, but you've got to experience different areas and actually see what it's like to produce work in them. for example, before i started uni i thought i wanted to go into editorial design (magazine layouts etc.) but after doing a couple of projects on it i discovered not only did i not enjoy it, but it was one of my weaker skills out of everything, so that thought swiftly went down the drain. and even then, doing a project on x isn't the same as working for a real client like you would in the real world, so your feelings on that field may change again. you may well get the opportunity to specialise in your final year/s, but starting out most places want to teach you as much as they can. in my first year of uni we did nearly a new project every week, which meant that although these projects weren't very in depth, it gave us a big overview of the types of design work that exist. in our second year we did 2 or 4 week projects, and now we're in our final year we're doing just 3 (or 4) big projects for our degree, completely of our own choice. that means those of us that are into corporate branding can do just that, if we're into packaging (like i am) we'll do a packaging project, whatever we like. but to start out saying you only want to study corporate design is very limiting and will limit pretty much every part of your uhh, design brain, and accompanying skill set. and i'm afraid saying that "The description and possible jobs sound like a dream" is a bit of a dream in itself, you'd have to be incredibly lucky, know the right people and be in the right place at the right time to land the dream job it seems you're after, and with little to no artistic background it's only going to be more of a struggle. add to that it's a pretty competitive job market, and with no previous experience you're really not going to be in a good position to get a job. sorry that these aren't very optimistic/encouraging words, but i'm not going to sugar coat it and lie to you. good luck, but you'll need it.
Thanks for your honest opinion, I thought that it would be like that. It already sounded like a hard job and studies. Thanks anyway, nice to hear from personal experience. I knew that it would be broad but I read that later on you can choose a focus or branch that you want to work in.
first entry on 99designs [sp]it got rejected for "not being professional"[/sp] which kinda sucks b/c the other entries are really kind of shitty
I don't like the idea you connected the 'spac' part in spacinov. Any reason why?
i felt like the typography was kind of stale before i added it
Yeah I don't know what typeface you used or anything, but it looks really inconsistent and the curvy attachments of SPAC make it worse. And if your corporate logo has an icon as the main focus, you don't really want to do any fancy stuff with the type anyways.
eh i moved on anyway
don't know if anyone would actually do this for me, since I'm poor and can't really pay, but my school's jazz band is doing a swing dance and we're making flyers, if anyone would be interested in making a jazz/swing style graphic or something for fun, I would love you forever. If not, then it's not a big deal at all. all it would need to be is a cool graphic of a trumpet/trombone/whatever, music notes, and other crap and having it say "Swing Dance' and/or "School Name Here" somewhere on it. I'm not going to ask further after this post, since I know begging isn't allowed. Like I said before, it's not a big deal if no one does it.
chocolate company logo
i dunno... the colour aside it doesn't really say chocolate to me. and what's with leaves? also you have some work to do on your letter crafting, the descender on your G is pretty... awkward. it just sorta curves out of straight and i don't think it looks very good. also Bs don't have a forward ascender, i mean i get it's meant to be a branch leaf thing (though i don't know what that has to do with chocolate, and don't say cocoa plant) but it just looks wrong the C's nice though, and it's good to have the consistent shapes through the 3 letters [editline]21st January 2013[/editline] ohhh it's meant to be like the G but rotated. well that makes more sense, but i still don't think it's really working at the moment
then again, this is the competition
just because something is better than it's predecessor doesn't mean you should just say "it'll do" [editline]21st January 2013[/editline] when there's still plenty of room for improvement
ohhh it's meant to be like the G but rotated. well that makes more sense, but i still don't think it's really working at the moment
i tried to make an ambigram at first but i realized it was impossible with the C
(though i don't know what that has to do with chocolate, and don't say cocoa plant)
fuck
generally speaking when someone says chocolate you think of the cocoa bean, and not the plant so this kinda thing http://blog.soliditytrade.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/cocoabean3.jpg

I've never bothered to see what a cocoa bean or the plant looks like and I don't really think either would make good representative icons.

the angle and balance of the maple leaf and how it just cuts off is fuckin with me
nearly all crime/thriller books always features the same dark, gritty and effect-horny look, i hate that Penguin does some nice book covers though i find (although these books aren't exactly crime/thriller): [img_thumb]http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qEeCRpII9jQ/TuHcOEda6WI/AAAAAAAADZw/LCn1T5t6QEE/s1600/animalfarm.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://obeygiant.com/images/2009/01/poster_1984_lrg.jpg[/img_thumb]
You can almost feel yourself holding and gently caressing a high quality book only by looking at them.
Made the logo for a friend.
the leaf isn't bothering me but that building, eegh very good example of very bad live trace, i assume. you'd be much better to simplify the building down, probably only to the highlights and hand vectorise it. you only need a few details (done well) to give the impression of the building, but at the moment it's a really ugly image, it's not going to scale at all and it just makes the whole thing look naff when it could be pretty good. i like your type though, the kerning's generally pretty and it's a good choice of font, though i'd bring the C at the start of Canadian in a bit so it's in line with the P beneath (but make sure you adjust the rest of the word accordingly) and why are the leaf and word Canadian different reds?
