oh :( so is there any gonna be any chance of moving on from fiverr stuff if I get a lot better?
You haven't been reading what we've told you.
If you're good then you get good jobs. Just get better and better and you get better and better jobs.
But you also need luck and preferably contacts.
yes, contacts are *very* important. the reason i picked my uni was because of the support we receive for our year in the industry. our tutor has been in design for many, many years and is known as a bit of a legend, so him putting in a good word for us as potential placement students has (without a doubt) done us a lot of good.
for the 3 interviews i've got lined up for next week, if my tutor didn't know people that worked there, i don't know what sort of chances i would have had to even get an interview. contacts are possibly even more important than your portfolio (well, maybe not quite) because it's all very well you being a fantastic designer with a fantastic portfolio, but if you don't know anyone that knows anyone that's looking for work... then you're kinda stumped.
While this may be a stupid question. What is usually the um.. average fee for a fancy logo from one of you guys? Of course it varies greatly and most likely is a private matter. But if anyone feels like sharing either here or via PM then I'm all ears.

It really depends on how big is the client and how much time and effort I have to put up: How many lgoo vesions I have to make, how many changes the client requests, the complexity of the logo etc...
While this may be a stupid question. What is usually the um.. average fee for a fancy logo from one of you guys? Of course it varies greatly and most likely is a private matter. But if anyone feels like sharing either here or via PM then I'm all ears.
You should just make an offer and then take it from there.
If I'm going to give it a shot I will be happy with whatever I get. I don't crave money for my shitty work, especially not for something like a game team of your scale.
Fixed?

The quality got raped by something somewhere, odd. There aren't any lines on the chainlinks, and the whole thing is much sharper than that.
what were you trying to fix? also i'm sorry but i just really don't like it :c

Contacts is very important, I just started from my parents. First I did the ACM brochure thing I posted a while back for my dad, then I helped my mom with the layout at her sewing place, now I'm designing a logo for her friends cake boutique franchise and also how it's going to look like (roughly) and am also designing the catalog and brochure for my sisters company :v: (and from that I might do some other stuff for my sisters company).
I'm sort of just branching out from my family :v: (I'm 17 and started out with serious design about a year ago)
I'm also designing articles for the school newspaper, the sucky thing though is that they have a professional who goes over them at the end and totally fucks them up. I've actually seen stuff be unaligned which was aligned before.
While this may be a stupid question. What is usually the um.. average fee for a fancy logo from one of you guys? Of course it varies greatly and most likely is a private matter. But if anyone feels like sharing either here or via PM then I'm all ears.
If we are talking about something professionally freelanced, many designers split the fee into three different steps along the design process. I.E.
They'll charge X to do phase 1 which might be a brainstorm, research, qiuck little ideas and information gathering
Phase 2 might be coming up with 3 or so different directions for the design based on the phase 1 research, the client would then pick which direction they like the best and give revisions on what they would like to see for the final
Phase 3 would be polished final high resolution artwork taking into consideration the revisions. Additional revisions usually cost extra, or if a design calls for detailed illustraition work beyond a standard logo or something.
Each step would cost however much the designer charges. On the low end from a "professional" side of things a designer might charge each phase $125 as the base...
Really though for FP I'm sure someone'll just do something on the cheap for a flat rate assuming you don't jump them through hoops over a long period of time (unless they want to).
Something simple where you don't really want to deal with research and different directions would be cheaper obviously, especially if you know already exactly what you have in mind but just need someone to do it. The rate I stated is what is done for most situations in logo design, where the client is starting from a clean slate and either wants to rebrand themselves or wants to come up with something new but doesn't have an idea of what to do yet. In that case, that is what a local "low-end" designer where I live might charge freelance for the "full package"
what were you trying to fix? also i'm sorry but i just really don't like it :c
Well, the fist one I posted, people commented on what they felt was wrong with it. I felt I fixed those little bits plus some things I found wrong with it. I'm not too big a fan of it myself, but I don't know any better way to execute it.

Alright then. I shall.
So basically, our team/group name is Fedora Fellows. As much as I can see that people will blurt out hipster at first sight. I really like the hat and.. we are three fellows.
To be exact, this is the kind of hat I am talking about, I can get more pictures of it of somebody needs it.
The rim is smaller then a traditional fedora and goes also by the name of "Trilby". Anyhow, enough about the hat.

So. What I was basically thinking is the silhouette of either one or three "fellows".

That is my horrendous mockup of the fellow. Poor guy.
Anyhow, ideally, three fellows. One in the front, another behind him and slightly to the left so you can see him and the last guy behind him in the same way.
No idea if a more realistic silhouette is better or a more "geometric"(?) one closer to the abomination that I just drew. I'll leave you to decide.
The red thing on his torso is supposed to be a tie. The whole theme of the logo should be red and black. Perhaps a red band on the hat as well.
If you guys think you have any great ideas yourselves then feel free to ignore my idea all together. So feel free to be creative.
Big hat picture. Sorry about that.
Best I could do with what I had hahaa

VD? :v:

I know, I haven't had the heart to tell him yet
Doesn't there come a point where minimalist essentially means 'lazy' :v:
See that's the fun though. It's like a game to see with just how little amount of visual information you can convey an idea. Then, everyone else gets to figure out what it's supposed to be, and it's usually really funny when they do.
The movie I did was a dumb choice because nobody knows about it though, so eventually I decided to make it a little more "conventional".

The problem is that that doesn't really look like a movie poster.
The problem is that that doesn't really look like a movie poster.
It's not at all intended for commercial use.
It's not at all intended for commercial use.
Yes, but if you're making a movie poster, you might as well make it look like one. that doesn't mean you have to follow strict guidelines to make a movie poster, you just have to give out the message that it's a movie poster.
You know what's the saying: Good art is interpreted, good design is understood.
I think you're looking too deep into the "movie poster" part.
It's a poster for a movie, yes, but it's more a fun little game than something to attract people to see the movie.
By the way, it's not like I made this shit up.

It's a general observation I have, I come across many designs, flyers and ads and I have to read further just to get what the thing is about, it's always Ideal you can transmit just at sight what type of product you're selling, since that's graphic design core purpose anyways.
I see what you're saying. I guess they're not really so much "graphic design" then.

That's a banner, not a logo.
[editline]12th July 2011[/editline]
Followed Rusty's persistent advice on using Flash over Illustrator.
I feel like a cripple in a wheel chair being forced to take the stairs.

Font is Frutiger 95 Ultra Black, so well, not usable, but yeah, if you like it I'll see what free option I can find. Just a quick sketch really trying out halting-nam'-cripple-Flash.
Seems like making edits now remove ratings from your post. Maybe just auto-merge.
So, I finished working on this ad for a real state company, thoughts?
[thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25318683/metliving.jpg[/thumb]
It's meant to be really clean and focused.
Please notice I didn't design the logo.
okay how's this for a concept:

(the white silhouette is meant to carve an F and inverted F shape, if you know what I mean)
it's not brilliantly executed but I'm sure I could tidy it up a bit

While it isn't a logo. It is badass. I like it. Did you draw the characters yourself as well?
The only thing missing is the red tie.

This one is great as well. Closer to my terrible drawing.
Is it possible to perhaps have some sort of "shading" to differentiate the three fellows a bit more? Sounds a bit picky and if it is too hard to do then never mind.

Trying to understand this one but my simple mind won't let me see it. All I see is a poor fellow with a "tube" sticking out of his head. Still, not your fault. I just woke up. :v:

I suck at drawing, I just whore Illustrator's live trace whenever anything more than a blob is needed

That's fully possible, but I won't be able to work on doing it over again in Illustrator in 9 hours as I'm working from 14-21 today, and only then if I feel like it since I quickly should to go to bed again because of work from 9 to 16 tomorrow.

Well, I tried to follow your concept, but I fail miserably at making human shapes with the bezier. So I came up with this idea after reading fedora as feather, don't know what you think.
[thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25318683/fedorafellows.png[/thumb]
It has three feathers representing the three fellows.
