no it isn't because there's an opportunity cost to volunteering. you could be getting paid during that time. all volunteering does is inflate your ego because it feels like you're being a good person. if you actually care about helping, you should earn money and give it to well-managed charities that can employ someone or several people in your place, because you can do an order of magnitude more good that way.
if, in addition to donating money, you need to volunteer to win friends, status, or maintain your ego so that you won't feel like a selfish cold dick while working, then that's fine, so long as you don't mistake the goal of this activity for actually helping.
You've never volunteered for anything before I'm convinced.

Eh, he's technically right about how economy works. Better for some poor or homeless guy to be employed by a charity to do the work, paid with the money you earned and donated, than for you to spend that time to do it for free.
What I learned during my service was that if a person has energy to complain they can keep on going just fine. When they stop complaining that's when they're really getting tired :v:
Lol, boot

He is right.
I've done a hell of a lot of volunteer work before, both doing it in my job and doing work for the community, and I've organized volunteer work. It would be a lot better for the community if we hired homeless people to do the work rather than look for volunteers.
However, I assume that you are talking more about volunteering in your job. Depending on how much you do, this can help you a little bit or bring you down. I've seen people whose promotions have been destroyed because they were willing to do everything for free.
