Irrelevant but I've always wanted to share this Something I made in Paint that took about 10 seconds
The irony in this is that someone who is truly intelligent would realise that correlation certainly does not imply causation.
The irony in this is that someone who is truly intelligent would realise that correlation certainly does not imply causation.
Did he imply causation? I didn't see anything of the sort in his post.
Did he imply causation? I didn't see anything of the sort in his post.
You're meant to infer that from the graph. Things don't need to be stated outright for you to know them. You can infer information that's not present from what IS present. It's quite obvious the point he's trying to make. I mean, personally I'm not too fond of religion. It's caused too much suffering and death for me to like it. But the graph's point is not necessarily correct anyway.

Sorry about that. :v:
This.
[img_thumb]http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii141/sgt_niallr/1277130617450.jpg[/img_thumb] This.
Okay, that was great.
I know there is no eternal life, so I am eternally greatful for this life. Is that not enough or what?
Bad ideas for a thread: Religion Seriously stop with these threads already. As for what I live for? To enjoy myself, and live a good life, and try to make something that matters, and leaves my mark on the world, if not everyone, just for some pepole. I can live for that. Though I am not a 100% atheist, I just don't believe that there is a god, or gods, who won't help us at all. Maybe there are and they like to see us suffer or something. But if you ask I do believe in an entity that started it all, maybe it's a lifeform with 1 cell. Not really godlike, but started us.
You're supposed to live life the way you want, you don't have to look forward to anything and dwell on what happens after death.
So it's gone from tiny portions of an origin science to all of common sense?
Pretty much, yeah. If you wanna be an intellectual without a nice "pseudo" as a prefix, you ought to side with science, but still remain a tad skeptic, but still side with it enough as to use it as a valid argument, but at the same time be open to alternative scientific presentations. So, yeah, common sense and science goes hand in hand. Birth control? Common sense, sex is fun, orphans aren't. Evolution is how the world was created, they used genetic research to develop that theory, rather than just being a two thousand year old skitzophrenic author with an authority complex who almost burned his son alive because the voices in his head told him to! So yeah, if you can't pick the more reasonable and sensible one of those alternatives, then no, you lack common sense and you should never ever raise a child. [editline]06:56PM[/editline] Also, the vatican was against the "Earth being round"-theory. My guess is a conspiracy to keep explorers from finding other lands so that the vatican could secretly head over there and claim it as theirs by force and eventually rule the world. Good thing they're slow workers, though.
I'm looking forward to a good lunch.
...they usually look forward to eternal reward. So, being an atheist removes life's worth?
I think most religious people are aware on a subconcious level that there's probably no life after death. You hear stories of people saying that their dead relatives saved them from death by warning them etc but if Heaven's such a great place why postpone the reunion? Most people fear death, which means they see it as a bad thing, which means they don't fully believe in Heaven. [editline]10:02AM[/editline]
Science prohibited by the church? Since when?
Francis Bacon? Gregor Mendell? Without religion we would never have had the pools of wealth necessary to support cerebral subjects such as science or architecture. Religion was very important for our development throughout history. [editline]10:09AM[/editline] Vinze - source on "the Vatican was against the idea of a round Earth"? Considering we've known the Earth was round for quite a while I find that hard to believe.
Life.
Vinze - source on "the Vatican was against the idea of a round Earth"? Considering we've known the Earth was round for quite a while I find that hard to believe.
Check history, around the middle ages, people thought the earth was flat, and passing a certain point meant falling over the edge into hell. Clearly, a stereotypical vatican plot to scare the shit out of people :colbert:.
This.
That implies that atheism is one giant collective where everyone who is one is a selfless person who only works to make other peoples lives better. When really you couldn't be any further from the truth.
I've always wondered, and I can't think of something that we atheists have to look forward to. I mean, I know atheist ONLY means == No God, but I don't believe in an afterlife, so what do I, and other atheists who think similarly, have to look forward to?
I don't see how this person is dumb at all. As an atheist I sometimes wish I actually did believe in an afterlife , Mainly because the thought of just dying and that being it isn't the nicest of thoughts.
Sleeping in on Sunday mornings.
Does it really matter? Stop worrying about such trivial matters and get on with your lives.
If the afterlife is so great why can't all christians just kill themselves now?

You maybe think you have a idea what will happen but is there anyone alive that can tell you so what happens if so I want to know too. I personally live in the now and not the after
Warm sunny days, lying in the grass drinking cider and playing some geetar. S'what i have to look forward to. Maybe the army as well in the future if I fuck up my exam resit :v: After that probably a box in the ground.
I don't see how this person is dumb at all. As an atheist I sometimes wish I actually did believe in an afterlife , Mainly because the thought of just dying and that being it isn't the nicest of thoughts.
So you'd rather believe in a lie than face reality?
I've heard a couple of stories from people about what it's like to pass out and have your heart and breathing stop, they actually said it was really blissful. So there's that.
I've experienced what I would consider to be close to or mirroring death and I'd say it's the same, something you can look forward to
There's something fundamentally wrong about looking forward to death.
Not dying.. because we all know non-religious people are immortal.. It's just the way it works.. /joking In all seriousness.. Do religious people look forward to death?
I meant that post to the guy above me, seemed like he was looking forward to it. I mean there's accepting death and being okay with dying then there's looking forward to it.
To bash and yell at anyone with some kind of a religion.
To bash and yell at anyone with some kind of a religion.
Dohoho implying all atheists are anti theists, you rapscalion you.
Life?
