What do Atheists have to look forward to? (For the Most Part)

Eternal damnation in hellfire.
I can't wait!
Personally I hope with all my might that there is an after life, or something.
Life is what you make it.
I look forward to growing taller
It's said that all humans wish for immortality, and that wish drives us in certain facets of our life. In our search for immortality we settle on one or more a few means to that end: immortality through an afterlife, immortality through fame, or immortality through family. So, as an atheist, choose one of the latter two.
you have to look forward to the life you're living right now. it doesnt matter what religion you are, you're a human being. you should be lucky. i mean, what are the chances of being able to live life being a HIGHLY complex organism (like we are)? pretty slim if you ask me.
Any Christian will tell you that you have an eternity of pain and suffering heading your way.. but i guess, if you aren't worried about that, then you can always look forward to finding out what comes after death
If the afterlife is so great why can't all christians just kill themselves now?
Suicide is, apparently, a sin
you all are acting like angsty teenagers. Chruistianity isn't stupid you know....

Where has anyone said that christianity is stupid? Much less, where have all of us said christianity is stupid?
I think you have a persecution complex.

you're projecting buddo
I've always wondered, and I can't think of something that we atheists have to look forward to. I mean, I know atheist ONLY means == No God, but I don't believe in an afterlife, so what do I, and other atheists who think similarly, have to look forward to?
Life. You have to die eventually, and throughout we will live our lives without boundaries and confines of religion.

actually that's bill murray
There's something fundamentally wrong about looking forward to death.
Not really, I generally enjoy life but death will be a nice relax from all this. That's not to say I want to die but that it'll be fine when I do, maybe to see the change.
The truth.
I can only imagine (and end up making my brain hurt if I think about it too much) a complete non-existence. It's hard to wrap your mind around but you simply aren't aware of any of this, because you don't exist, you're dead.
But whatever awaits us when we die, I accept it. I don't worry about it though, live for today.
Nothing happens after you die. You cease to exist, that's it. It's like the time before you were born. Your brain is no longer processing what's happening.
Duke Nukem Forever.
despite the obvious attempt at getting a rise out of people in this thread, i think this question's answer shows a huge amount of meaning
the religious folk who dislike atheists and pity them and everything always say they don't see beauty, and see us as cold, hard, and calculating
while on the contrary I see it that religious people live their lives for the afterlife. Atheists live life for life, and I think for that we've got a much better appreciation of life because we realize entirely that it's not eternal, that our time is limited. It makes every moment more important and beautiful.
A theist on their death will always experience that doubt, and wonder what happens next. The atheist, I'd think, would reminisce on their past, and die peacefully.
We look forward to nothing, because it would mean we are right.
I don't see how this person is dumb at all. As an atheist I sometimes wish I actually did believe in an afterlife , Mainly because the thought of just dying and that being it isn't the nicest of thoughts.
Thanks, fellow 08'er.

You don't need to have some fictional reward waiting at the end to make life worth living. :colbert:

Couldn't agree more. Also, I see a lot more beauty in nature by understanding how it works rather than saying 'god did it'.
The fact that all of this came about; life, the universe, the geographic landscape of Earth, everything... it's amazing. To think that we're all just one huge statistical fluke makes life all that more special to me.
Atheist nihilist here, Just because there is no reason to live, doesn't mean you can't enjoy your stay here. Just find a guy or girl you like, and spend your time with them. Do whatever makes you happy, mate.

Beauty is one of the reasons I'm an atheist. I couldn't see the beauty in life with an over controlling God that consciously mistreats his people. I couldn't see the beauty in an entire world, entire universe, and entire lifetime that was manufactured to test us, and that I had a fate which I couldn't change.
To believe this universe was created by some flawless omnipotent entity is tiresome. I don't want perfection. I don't like perfection. Belief in perfection is a delusion that distracts us from the true beauty in this universe - the beauty of true randomness, and the beauty present when against all odds something comes together to form something magnificent.
How can you appreciate the full beauty present in the universe when you believe it to be sculpted by some entity that simply has existed forever. Just Lore - an entity with a whacked emotion and sense of morality that alleges himself to be God and to be flawless. I'm not interested in hypocrisy, I'm sickened by it. I'd rather have Q as my God.
Obviously that leaves me open to a lot more interesting religions, but I have different reasons for not believing in those.
You mean after death?
Depends on who you're talking too.
Some atheists believe in reborn even though they don't believe in god.
As for me, i just think i'll wander around in the nothingness. Or reborn? dunno.

Where's Doriol?
Which will be rendered useless due to Heat Death etc.
"The Universe is going to end in two hundred billion years in the Heat Death, so everything we do is pointless because there will not be a single proton to remember what we did."

Because if you take away your gift of life god will punish you by sending you to hell.

not being hated by anyone with basic logic
Very little. I don't think life is that great at all, but I live it for the small joys that come with it. I'd rather just blissfully die of old age when I'm done. Sadly, I have to live through the pain of growing old order for that to happen...
