What do Atheists have to look forward to? (For the Most Part)
155 replies, posted
We don't need something to look forward to. Not believing in god frees you from letting life treat you like a bitch because you believe there's a heaven to make up for the injustice of your first life.
But then again, life makes a bitch out of everyone :(
Okay, so... maybe Atheists don't WANT anything to look forward too... or maybe they like the idea of not having to put up with what they perceive as a load of religious crap.
I've always wondered, and I can't think of something that we atheists have to look forward to. I mean, I know atheist ONLY means == No God, but I don't believe in an afterlife, so what do I, and other atheists who think similarly, have to look forward to?
We look forward to a better tommorow, and knowing that we are helping make the world a better place for future generations so that although we die, we leave a lasting print on this Earth.
You can sleep well knowing that living forever (I.E: Afterlife) is a curse itself, and that everything with a beginning has an end.
Why does it matter? Why do religions matter? I'm mormon, I believe what I want to believe. I don't care if your atheist or catholic or whatever. Lets just live life to the fullest.
The fact that you will be absorbed by animals and plants and will be beneficial to living things for hundreds of years. Oh that and endless sleep.

So hows it feel to have an imaginary friend after the age of 5?
Being alive

pretty much this
So hows it feel to have an imaginary friend after the age of 5?
Damn your an asshole.
I don't get why people think shit like this, I believe what I believe because I do, not because I think it's better. So many people believe there's life after death just because they don't want to believe nothing happens.

Well thats your opinion. It really saddens me how some people think when they die nothing happens. You just get stuck in limbo forever. IMO I believe something better will happen. Now I'm leaving because I dont want to start a fucking flame war.

Facts = / = Opinion
Lets break this down simply so your childish mind can comprehend the truth over fantasy.
When you go to a hospital and they put you unconscious you will only have a memory of the time before and the time after waking up. If there was some sort of magical eternal soul then there would be no such thing as unconsciousness, blindness, deafness, or any sort of memory loss.
All the functions people attribute to a soul are nothing more than brain functions, when these functions stop, you stop thats it. This is not an opinion, this is a fact of life and if you cant deal with it then thats your problem.
Why do we need brains if we have souls, why would an all knowing god devise such a stupid system, why give us bodies when souls would be a better design. Its all bullshit and by believing in fairy tales you make yourself look like a fool.

Try to remember what it was like before you were born. That's pretty much how death is probably like. You can't even begin to fathom it.

Says the Mormon. You're basically one step away from devil warship anyways.

Hm, no wonder everybody hates atheists. They're complete selfesh assholes who want everyone to believe in what they believe or else they fucking shit they're pants and cry in a corner. In my post I said we should just live life to the fullest and have fun. You just had to start picking on me for my religion. What a fucking cunt. I hope you feel proud of yourself.
That implies that atheism is one giant collective where everyone who is one is a selfless person who only works to make other peoples lives better. When really you couldn't be any further from the truth.
The subtitle incorrectly implies that, yes, but the post itself is a pretty good example of what many atheists do live their lives for.

Making sweeping statements about large groups of people, many of whom agree with you, isn't terribly polite or reasonable either...

The alpha side of me was beating the shit out of my dads other puny sperm and the beta side of me was scared that I will out of my mother's womb.
You people seriously can't remember any of this? It was weird when my alpha side was kicking ass and taking names in the battle of the womb. Then it was like we just fused. Alpha and beta become one and here I type today.
Fucking magic.

Dude don't argue with Superdinoman. He's one of those weirdos that thinks dinosaurs WEREN'T around four thousand years ago. Psssh, like the earth is older than five thousand. These science fags think they have everything figured out, yet for some reason they can't tell me how dinosaurs lived before the earth was even created.

Serpent seed demons. The lot of them. Can't even disprove why the banana fits in the hand and I'm supposed to believe that we "evolved" from monkeys. How does that work? They have HAND FEET for fucks sake. Don't you think Darwin would have thought it was a good idea to keep our tails while he was evolving us? No? Then piss off until you give me valid evidence.
I don't believe in the afterlife. I have just accepted death, it's natural and the only reason you may feel the need to believe in an afterlife is because you're scared.
death
The rest of our life.

No sense getting all mad and throwing insults, no matter what you believe you cant change the truth.
When it all comes down to it you can ask the same question to anyone. Not just an atheist. No one says "Oh goody, i believe in god, hope i die today". Live it up. Bang hot chicks and watch good films. Were all goin 6 feet under.

DEVIL WARSHIP
But nobody asked any Christians to come in and state their opinions. This thread was meant for atheists to discuss what happens after death, not for Christians to come in and try to prove us wrong.

This. Except I am an atheist.
Why can't people be more accepting. I don't think Gays are natural, but if they want to go and get married, it's up their life.
As long as they aren't into furry porn and bestiality. Atleast humans are made to mate with humans, even if it's not the "right" hole
For the record, not all the people who don't think homos are natural are homophobic.
1. Stupidity—The top of the list for Satanic Sins. The Cardinal Sin of Satanism. It’s too bad that stupidity isn’t painful. Ignorance is one thing, but our society thrives increasingly on stupidity. It depends on people going along with whatever they are told. The media promotes a cultivated stupidity as a posture that is not only acceptable but laudable. Satanists must learn to see through the tricks and cannot afford to be stupid.
2. Pretentiousness—Empty posturing can be most irritating and isn’t applying the cardinal rules of Lesser Magic. On equal footing with stupidity for what keeps the money in circulation these days. Everyone’s made to feel like a big shot, whether they can come up with the goods or not.
3. Solipsism—Can be very dangerous for Satanists. Projecting your reactions, responses and sensibilities onto someone who is probably far less attuned than you are. It is the mistake of expecting people to give you the same consideration, courtesy and respect that you naturally give them. They won’t. Instead, Satanists must strive to apply the dictum of “Do unto others as they do unto you.” It’s work for most of us and requires constant vigilance lest you slip into a comfortable illusion of everyone being like you. As has been said, certain utopias would be ideal in a nation of philosophers, but unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately, from a Machiavellian standpoint) we are far from that point.
4. Self-deceit—It’s in the “Nine Satanic Statements” but deserves to be repeated here. Another cardinal sin. We must not pay homage to any of the sacred cows presented to us, including the roles we are expected to play ourselves. The only time self-deceit should be entered into is when it’s fun, and with awareness. But then, it’s not self-deceit!
5. Herd Conformity—That’s obvious from a Satanic stance. It’s all right to conform to a person’s wishes, if it ultimately benefits you. But only fools follow along with the herd, letting an impersonal entity dictate to you. The key is to choose a master wisely instead of being enslaved by the whims of the many.
6. Lack of Perspective—Again, this one can lead to a lot of pain for a Satanist. You must never lose sight of who and what you are, and what a threat you can be, by your very existence. We are making history right now, every day. Always keep the wider historical and social picture in mind. That is an important key to both Lesser and Greater Magic. See the patterns and fit things together as you want the pieces to fall into place. Do not be swayed by herd constraints—know that you are working on another level entirely from the rest of the world.
7. Forgetfulness of Past Orthodoxies—Be aware that this is one of the keys to brainwashing people into accepting something new and different, when in reality it’s something that was once widely accepted but is now presented in a new package. We are expected to rave about the genius of the creator and forget the original. This makes for a disposable society.
8. Counterproductive Pride—That first word is important. Pride is great up to the point you begin to throw out the baby with the bathwater. The rule of Satanism is: if it works for you, great. When it stops working for you, when you’ve painted yourself into a corner and the only way out is to say, I’m sorry, I made a mistake, I wish we could compromise somehow, then do it.
9. Lack of Aesthetics—This is the physical application of the Balance Factor. Aesthetics is important in Lesser Magic and should be cultivated. It is obvious that no one can collect any money off classical standards of beauty and form most of the time so they are discouraged in a consumer society, but an eye for beauty, for balance, is an essential Satanic tool and must be applied for greatest magical effectiveness. It’s not what’s supposed to be pleasing—it’s what is. Aesthetics is a personal thing, reflective of one’s own nature, but there are universally pleasing and harmonious configurations that should not be denied.
ALSO:
Satanism is a philosophy, not a religion, they see "Satan" as a representative of decency and knowledge, so it's more like an icon than a being, truth is, the church of satanism has stated themselves that they think anyone who belives in god, or satan, should seek medical help, since they're clearly delusional and mentally unhealthy.
Sure beats Christianity :colbert:.
