If I could vote I would vote green
just to fuck with the goverment
No, because I'm in a union, I dont want the Liberals getting all Work Choices-esqe on me. Im speaking for alot of tradesmen as well here.
doesn't make it mandatory. poor choice of words.
and anyway, if you're worried about AWAs, then just don't vote for the liberal party.
If I could vote I would vote green
the labor party and greens have a prefernce sharing agreement. if you don't put your prefernces right, you're giving labor your second best vote, i.e. not fucking with government.

Wait so does this agreement mean that if Labor wins, it can't/is unlikely to hold the balance of power?
Wait so does this agreement mean that if Labor wins, it can't/is unlikely to hold the balance of power?
no, not necessarily.
federal parliament's lower house, the house of reps, operates on a preferntial voting system, rather than the more common FPTP system.
i cannot be bothered explaining the whole of it, but when you go into vote, a greens representative will hand you a peice of paper telling you how to vote if you want to vote for the greens party according to them. the way the greens will tell you to vote (after the preference sharing agreement) will mean that the labor party will be put 2nd best on preferences, so that votes to other parties will be filtered out due to lack of prefrences.
you don't have to follow these cards.
its a damn fucking complicated system.
Liberal all the way. Rudd and Gillard are both tools, but I would have preferred Rudd to have stayed in power, that mining tax didn't seem such a bad idea.

why don't you want to vote for an emu?

We're lucky, American voting system is absolutely terrible.
We're lucky, American voting system is absolutely terrible.
not terrible, but needs fixing.
the electoral college was america's caste system
[editline]08:57PM[/editline]
it's really only the presidential elections that are fucked up.
congress and district elections are good. plus, being able to vote for the chief prosecutor is good.
Go the Greens. They oppose the net filter and they're the most likely non-labor, non-liberal to get any seats at all.
I encourage you all to vote Greens or convince your parents to vote Greens. If you want more reason to do this, check their awesome policies here.
Don't vote for the ape. IF you do, I WILL kill you.

Elizebeth, may I have a donkey?
I'm voting for the Australian Sex Party, as far as the 2 preferred parties go I'd rather Liberal wins.
If the Liberal party win I will be so disappointed.
If they win they are planning to abolish the idea of the National Broadband Network. That means we wont get the 100mps Fiber Optics that we are supposed to be getting soon.
from the kitchen
I'd vote for anyone who dosen't want the filter put forward.
The people saying no want to stop labours spending, which includes my fiber optics. I want my dad to change plans so we can get more allowance. Don't take that away from me.
I can live with a filter, but the reasons for implementing it are stupid. They already need to have the sites to put them in the filter. And most pedos use IM and stuff don't they?

what is this filter I'm hearing so much about?

They will still put fiber in to the more populated areas, fast wireless for more remote areas.
Makes a heap more sense opposed to giving fiber to townships with barely 1000 residents.
[editline]10:14PM[/editline]
Oh and if you vote for the Greens your preferences most likely go to Labor who can't get anything apart from apologising right.
The best way to keep the country on a stable path is to continually kick both parties out of power on an alternating basis.
Vote for a party on policy, not on the figurehead and his/her own beliefs. It's the party that controls the direction they lead in, As proved by the removal of Rudd as the Prime Minister before he even finished one term.
what is this filter I'm hearing so much about?
The government essentially wants to play the thought police, deciding what we can and can't see on the internet. Apparently they think we don't have the right to see stuff like fetish porn and euthanasia literature.

No.
The Government plan to block out anything that has or will be refused classification by the ratings board. Don't pretend it's something it's not.
The problem is it has the large potential to be abused.

oh shit, I don't want Australia to be like China :S
Wow,Abbot really made a fool of himself up there tonight. He kept saying "oh our government will do this" without actually explaining how they plan to do any of that, and he also did the thing most bad politicians do, which is ridicule rather than debate. I have no idea how that imbecile has any supporters. Julia Gillard's certainly not perfect, but she's miles ahead of Abbot. He says all this stuff about the government not being tough enough on climate change when he's admitted to being a climate change skeptic.
how are people STILL so stupid as to want to vote labor? jesus fucking christ
the problem with the sex party and the greens, is that even though they have GREAT social, technological and enviromental policies, they have absolutely terrible economic policies, if any at all.
Unfortunately, in todays world, we're at a point where we need to worry about the economy more than ever. We can afford to be set back socially, at least for a few years because we're already a leading nation in social progressiveness. The labor government has semi-good technological policies, obviously discounting the filter.
Think about how a politician never keeps their promises though. The filter will likely not go through, because they know how bad it is. I'd bet it's an empty promise.
Environmentally, the labor government at least makes a visible effort towards it, with Kevin Rudd taking a leading roll in many debates and resolutions last year and this year. even though he's gone, we still have the same environment minister, i believe.
When it comes to education, with a Julia Gillard was once the minister for education, so she has alot of experience in the sector.
Finally, the current liberal party are a pack of morons. They fail to actually explain how they're going to do this, they fail to say if they're going to do things at all, and quite frankly the only real debate they've had for a while was an attempt to dismantle the other government, rather than promote their own.

Are you an australian? If not, shut up. You don't know enough about Australian politics.

obviously youre the one who's a moron because they HAVE explained how they are going to fix labors monumental fuck ups, plus its LABOR who throws shit at the opposition
oh shit, I don't want Australia to be like China :S
i don't understand how you couldn't be for blocking sites known to host stuff like child porn, the original motive of the filter?
but i understand the worry about the filter extending to other stuff.

that made no sense.
Work choices are dead, Buried and cremated apparently by Tony Abbot.
Work choices are dead, Buried and cremated apparently by Tony Abbot.
WHAT? maybe "buried and cremated" by him not becoming Government to see it through Parliament.
WHAT? maybe "buried and cremated" by him not becoming Government to see it through Parliament.
Its a joke, Tony Abbot was constantly saying "Work choices are dead buried and cremated" on the radio like 16 times.
is there a video games party? i'm tempted to be a cunt and vote for them. i mean there's a marijuana and also a sex party. seems like there would be a video games party too.
