i don't understand how you couldn't be for blocking sites known to host stuff like child porn, the original motive of the filter?
The filter is way too flawed.
The filter is way too flawed.
how so?
how so?
Any half-competent user can bypass the filter in seconds. Proxy, VPN, Bittorrent, email, IRC, IM, hell even Google can be used. It currently cannot filter encrypted data or IPv6, however it can filter HTTPS making your online banking and purchases insecure. It's possible to export the filter list allowing people to see what sites are safe for them to access. Should an online business be accidentally blocked they stand to lose days to months of sales until they become unblocked. Conroy himself has stated that it would not be possible to filter YouTube with this filter. Through the denying of inappropriate content, information resources that allow the population to educate themselves and create their own unbiased opinions over issues such as abortion, euthanasia or anorexia would be denied. No plans are in place to define inappropriate content.
Shall I go on?

first of all paragraph.
second, we all know how easy it is to bypass, but it's better than having a deep packet inspection filter. its inevitable that a filter will eventually happen in australia.
third, its not possible to export the filter list... where'd you get that idea? it was leaked
how so?
You actually think the filter is a good thing? No matter the legality, the government should have no right to block our acess to certain websites. They could eventually block websites that speak out against them and claim it was hosting child pornography or something.
I thought with this filter they were saying that for every correct website filtered and blocked 3 or so were incorrectly blocked?
Not only that but it'd damage our already shitty internet speeds.

What right of yours would be infringed if the Government put a filter in place to block illegal material?
[editline]01:21AM[/editline]
I don't think a filter would be good, but I don't think it's as bad as people say it would be.

Rather than waste all this money on a mandatory internet filter, what they should do is educate parents. You know, rather than absolving responsibility when you catch your child looking for porn and hearing their lame excuse. Improving the optional filters ISPs have wouldn't do any harm either.
This was originally posted on Whirlpool Forums. Not sure if it's the exact wording used.
1. Download a copy of the Integard content filter and set it up however you want. (google integardsetup.exe)
2. Open up integard.exe in a hex editor
3. In your hex editor, do a search for "datetimepicker.js" and change it to the not-at-all-ambiguous "Websites_ACMA.txt"
4. Quickly kill the running integard.exe and save your changes.
5. Once integard.exe has reloaded, browse to 127.0.0.1:18881/Websites_ACMA.txt — which it will now happily serve you via the web interface

There's no good alternative for this, but sadly it doesn't work. The Howard Government provided a large choice of free internet filters in an attempt to do this, but the uptake was minimal.

This isn't the ACMA blacklist, that's the blacklist that they may have provided. If the filter were to come into effect, then they wouldn't have any need to provide a blacklist to any company, as they would do the filtering themselves, so the blacklist wouldn't leak, or at least parts of it wouldn't.,
Every time Labor gets in power the Liberals have to fix up all of their fuckups.
Every time Labor gets in power the Liberals have to fix up all of their fuckups.
what fuckups for example?
High interest rate of the early 90s
The high debt Australia is now in
Wait, who said what about net filter?
Us australiens are having an INTERNET FILTER? Like the kind that china uses?!?
IMHO i don't vote. I'd choose the greens just to try and push the system around... Abbot will screw up the unions, and Gillard is a freaking bitch for booting Kevin
But in all, i hope that Abbot DOESN'T win, because i'm going to be in a union someday, and by the sounds of things, 'work choices' was BAD.
High interest rate of the early 90s
:downs: The Government don't control interest rates. The RBA does.
The high debt Australia is now in
It's natural to be in the red after a period of economic recovery. Australia is one of the only MEDC to not go into recession, and that's something the current Labor Government did very well.
I mean, look at the US and UK! Their economies are fucked and are massively in debt.
If the Liberals were in power, we'd be in the same debt (with Labor calling foul instead) or if they didn't spend, we'd be in a recession.

Why will you be in a union someday?
Work Choices was bad for Unions power, not necessarily you.
An AWA (the type of contract Work Choices brought in) could be good for you, just it bypasses the Union, so "it's bad".
i am voting greens.
good
