We have generally lower taxation rates than the US. Also, at least our taxes are clear. There's laws about displaying sales tax inclusive, so no more going around a store buying :10bux: worth of food and being charged twelve.

woah, calm down. the US has to do with it because your argument is that it's "not free" because we essentially pay for it out of our taxes, but compared to the US who get taxed about the same amount and yet are still required to pay for their healthcare... we do get it free. if we go into hospital and need an operation - we get it. we don't pay for it. thus, it is fair to say that it is free healthcare.

Patients in NHS hospitals won't get turfed if they can't pay the bill, because the service is provided for through taxes.
