Dude those problems aren't necessarily caused by the grass, they are just as you say problems lurking below the surface, those could be awoken by stress as well or even just boredom.

if mental issues run in your family it's probably not a good idea to do ANY drugs, but why should a normal healthy person go "hey i MIGHT have schizophrenia even though there's no history of it in my family so i'm not gonna smoke pot".

Any mental stress can cause it, high pressures at work, bullying blah blah blah and yes grass, and I'm not saying ya should smoke it and I agree there are down sides, to grass and everything else, it's just that they are a bit over blown.

Weed can awaken underlying schizophrenia, there's no lies about that. I hate people who worship weed and say it has no negative effects at all (fanboys). I, as an everyday smoker, can safely say from experience that weed does have its negative effects, albeit they aren't as bad as the side-effects from other drugs like methylamphetamine or even alcohol.

There is no study that says weed can bring out schizophrenia, "This guy smokes weed and now he's a schizo" is not proof of that.
There is also no study showing it has anything to do with short term memory loss, again you're putting two unrelated things together.
Same with panic attacks. If someone is having panic attacks it's not the weed's fault, it's the fact that they have a fucking condition that causes panic attacks.

The whole schizophrenia thing is just speculation, there is no proof that it awakens it, you could assume that it awakens it slightly earlier than it would have been awakened anyway, but you can't even prove that. Oh and it's really, really rare too.

Lets get one thing straight here, I'm neither for, nor against Weed, I've seen it, never tried it.
That wasn't a vague answer atall, its pretty much what lies at the heart of any change.
Lets, take an example, America's healthcare reform.
Firstly, I'm English, so as far as healthcare goes, i get it for free, It may not be as good as the pristine healthcare someone in American could afford with an arm and a leg, But i get it regardless, So, given that I'm not from a wealthy family, this is beneficial.
Now, (from an outsider) looking into the protests against America's healthcare reform most of the people were [B]HORRIBLY[/B] misguided.
It's not different from this, People [I]WILL[/I] choose to ignore facts for their own sake, then pass the facts they deem true to their closest (friends, family, etc) until Peer pressure forms, From there, people conform to this social attitude, as they've only been presented one side of facts.
