My mom was bro about religion. She taught me about it and taught me about not believing in god and gave me the choice to pick what I want to believe. I believe in evolution and what not and consider myself atheist, while she remains jewish and believes in her whole spiel.
I really respect her for that.
Until Jesus or God comes down here and proves it, or any religious deity for that matter, I ain't believing in shit, and I think if they're as fair and just as everyone makes them out to be, They'll realize it and let me into heaven for being a rational and true free thinking human fucking being
If they exist, that is
Which they don't
My Half sister believes in it, I don't, nor did my Mom. My mom drove her to church every sunday, not me. She was cool that way. Then I went to live with my dad when I was 8 because I *hate* fucking cigarettes that much

God did Mary, made a baby, and put himself in the childs body. Or something fucked up like that. Religion is full of WTFs.
There is some kind of "holy trinity" or whatever it was called that said god, Jesus and some kind of holy pigeon are the same person. I am an atheist, but I at least try to learn what other religions believe, still, this is hilarious.
They have an animal idle which is the Dove, which represents peace, love and divinity.
They believe that God is one person (yourself), with three personalities (splits your brain into three pieces) to deal with day to day life.
The holy father (your subconscious), Jesus (your ego) the holy ghost (your conscious).
The psychological groundwork is there, but it is so horribly outdated it is a wonder that people are still using it.
Source: Raised 3rd generation (Ex now) Seventh-Day-Adventist Christian Married to an 3rd generation (Ex) Mormon. My mother and I are the only people so far who have broken the intellectual barrier of religion and moved straight to modern ethics in my family. My wife is the first in hers. We are now atheists.
The amount of facepunch's "open-mindness" in this thread is SOOO inspiring.

You used to be Seventh-Day-Adventist?
Those are probably the coolest Christians. Their beliefs seem a little more wacky but the ones I know are really awesome, open minded people that at least aren't hypocritical about their beliefs.
I prefer their company over most Baptists or whatever I know.
