awww chris hadfield is back on earth
he did good things
i hope his time is one thing of many in a series of events that re-vitalizes our collective dreams of space
I want to float around in a space station taking pictures and singing songs when I'm 53, damn.
He is a true hero of our time.
Aww man, the new Anamanaguchi album is endlessly satisfying.

Also I made a friend today; I saw a jumping spider crawling on a wall in my house so I got my camera and failed at taking a good clear picture of it, so I just went and took videos instead. Then he spent a long time crawling all over my camera and then on my arm (obviously because I was wearing an M65).
I'll upload the videos soon but here's a teaser:

Dang dude those welds would be way cleaner if you just took your time. The lettering is pretty impressive though
I'm fairly certain he did it that way on purpose

i was aiming for a "shitty mad max" look
I think it would be really neat to make a pepakura Recon helmet from Halo and fiberglass it + use actual safety visors in it to use in airsoft. Face protection, and it looks neat!
Snoop around the 405th, and they'll tell you to take a hike, and never to use bare-bones cardstock+ fiberglass + bondo for combat sports.
They'll also permaban you for constructive criticism and minor cussing.
They're partially right, in that fiberglass and cardstock alone will be flexible and easily dented, possibly even punctured unless you've got 10 layers inside and out.
The best way to negate this is to buy some sheets of EVA floor foam (like 8-10 bucks at most hardware stores or wal-mart) and stencil out pieces to stick on the inside before you get to hardening it all.
a quarter-inch of that foam and 2 to 3 layers of fiberglass mat is beyond durable.
If you have any experience in pepakura/cosplay-grade armoring you may have heard of the use of eva mats as an alternative to the classic cardstock + glass method, but the combination of the two forms yields a very practical result.
I know my reputation here is raw garbage, but I've been doing automotive body work and DIY exoskeletonizing for years. The stuff works like a charm if you know what you're doing.
Someday I'd like to weld a bunch of scrap metal together for a sort of Lorica Segmentata/Ned Kelly/lobster man hyrbid

Thanks. I was thinking of throwing some carbon fiber strips in there as well along with some foam padding + fiberglass. Maybe combine with some sholderpads for l33t tactic00l op3rator look
Go for it bucko. Get a motorcycle helmet lining and little electric fans if you want to lose your mind
My roommate has been calling businesses for an hour trying to find free wooden pallets. He is relentless. He's going to build furniture with them. I told him I'd drive him to pick them up because I'm the only fucking one with a truck and fuck me.
