I just had an idea that would be cool for a book or something.
Modern group of US Marines or Army head out for a patrol in the mountains of Afghanistan. Something happens and when they reach the other side of the mountain they're rucking up their radios aren't working right. They run into a group of Soviet soldiers dressed up like they're from the 80's and get caught up in a fire fight out of confusion.
They come to find out they've somehow managed to travel back in time to the Soviet-Afghan war and have just caused an international incident. With their modern weapons, technology and knowledge they become pawns in the greater conflict they've just set off and things start to get warped because the injection of modern technology and the intensifying skirmishes and border clashes with US and Soviet forces of the time.

Even better if you can swing it in such a way that a whole company or division end up in the time warp. But that's sort of difficult to manage. Perhaps a large assault on suspected Taliban means a whole company of grunts rucking up instead of just a squad or something. But it'd be neat to watch some modern shit square off against Soviet shit.
So it looks like the Triumph project is going to come to a hiatus.
I still haven't been able to be lucky enough to get the car out of the woods (almost out, though), just because U-Haul is a pain in my ass, plus my work schedule.
I have till November to get it out of there, and out of there it will go.
The other reason i'm putting it on hiatus is because of a new project I may be starting in a few days
but im gonna keep it secret
jk its an aw11

Anyone who knows me in person will testify that I lose my shit like that at the sight of any cute animals, be it dogs, cows, deer, hell maybe even a fish or something I don't know
I just had an idea that would be cool for a book or something...
If I recall there was a massive thing a while back where someone on Reddit posted a prompt about a modern army (roughly the size of a company or division, maybe larger) being randomly teleported ala carte back in time to fight with the Roman army or something of that nature, and a guy wrote up this massive, brilliant post and maybe got a movie screenplay deal or something crazy like that. I'm probably getting tons of the details incorrectly, maybe someone else knows what I'm talking about.
But yes your idea is very badass, and I'm sure a lot of us have daydreamed about modern troops facing off with historical foes at some point or another.

I've watched two separate Japanese films in which the JSDFSFDG is transported back in time to the Edo period and somehow gets utterly butt fucked relentlessly by various samurai. To be fair like half of the deaths were caused by shinobi sneaking around.
I forget the names of the films but they're worth the watch.

Well, I haven't bought it yet, but a guy is selling one well within my budget with a few issues that I could fix while still being within my budget. I'm going to go check out the car tomorrow and if it goes well it's all mine.
Here's the craigslist ad:

The car is definitely getting put back to it's stock red color for a while.

also Hawaii is getting WRECKED that storm was supposed to downgrade to a tropicalstorm (the national weather service was certain of it) but it and the storm both strengthened and will land as hurricanes. earlier today there was a magnitude 4.5 earthquake.
mother nature wat r u doin
Lol I just got outta Hawaii a couple weeks ago. Missed that fucker by a small margin.
I think mother nature has had enough of that speedsoft bullshit
I'm going home in a week and a half so I'm really hoping nothing too serious happens. This'll be the first time a hurricane has hit Hawaii in 22 years, and that hurricane was Hurricane Iniki in 1992 which took weeks to recover from (months for the worst hit area of Kauai).
Oh yeah and there's going to be two hurricanes, Iselle and Julio. Within a few days of each other.
As of tomorrow I only hsve two weeks left at Walmart. Thank fuck, no way in hell I'm going back there next summer no matter how desperate for a job I am.

Last time I rolled my grenada kit we were spawn trapping the other team, so I volunteered to switch. As soon as I spawn I turn a corner and see my friend in his WW2 heer kit pointing his MG42 at me, so I panic sprayed him in the face. 80s US vs 40s german?

I read Rome Sweet Rome and -if- I read the right thing it was like nine paragraphs split into nine days. It was really unimpressive. Wasn't even a book, just like a summary of his ideas and that was it. How the fuck did he get a movie deal?
Even I could write something better than that.

I saw this one. Unfortunately all the movies that deal with this time-travelling army plot are done bad.
Both the Japanese movies where they go back in time get buttfucked because they're idiots who don't know how to react in a reasonable time frame, immediately get out of their armored vehicles and than don't simply drive away when they get encircled or caught up to by swordsmen.
And in The Final Countdown which had potential they did the biggest cock block in history and scrambled all the planes off a US aircraft carrier from the 80's to go fuck up the Japanese about to attack Pearl Harbor and than at the last second they go "oh, never mind come back we're going home" and nothing fucking exciting happens.
