Deli lyfe v.10 let's share our life problems edition because apparently we're all miserable

Therein lies the problem: People don't know how to pace themselves. They do stupid shit involving alcohol and then it ruins the night for them and everyone around them. Which is why I don't go to bars or parties and if I'm not drinking alone it's with a small handful of people I know personally and already know how they handle their liquor, e.g. family members or my best friend.
I have never once gotten so shit-faced drunk that I blacked out, couldn't remember what happened the next day, etc. Never even made myself puke from alcohol. The toilet bowl looks a lot bigger when your head's inside it, so I tend to keep my head out of it.
As a camp counselor I worked with kids who have ADD/ADHD. I'm firmly in the discipline-your-kids camp and I know ADD is overdiagnosed when it isn't applicable, but there are actually people who just straight up cannot focus or concentrate and it's not just bad parenting. People who will do things like set off the smoke alarm because in the time it took them to go to the fridge they forgot about the pan on the stove, or miss things as important as weddings because they got distracted on the Internet. There are a lot of over-indulged kids raised on videogames and constant entertainment by shitty parents who are much quicker to trust a diagnosis and drugs than a frank evaluation of their parenting strategies, but there are also a lot of people who have a seriously life-affecting condition because their brain chemistry fucks them over.
For most of the kids (elementary to college) I've met whose supposed ADD/ADHD manifests as an inability to stop playing videogames and do their homework, it's a bullshit excuse. But it isn't just some nonexistent pathology invented to sell drugs, because there are a lot people for whom it's a real problem.
I have to agree with this. I'm one of those people. I was diagnosed with severe ADHD and short term memory loss at a young age and I've dealt with shit like that for as long as I can remember. I took meds for awhile as a kid, but the side effects were horrendous and scared me off for a long time. I've been taking Vyvanse (50mg) for about a year now though, and it's been the first medication I've found to help.
While my ADHD does affect my concentration in school and on work, it's more of a problem for things like the smoke alarm example you mentioned. I regularly forget what I'm saying halfway through a sentence, forget how old I am or my name, and lose focus on even the most basic things. I'll be watching TV or talking with someone and realize that I have no clue what they're talking about because I can't stay on topic for a single sentence a lot of times. It makes tasks like driving very difficult because I can't focus enough to be safe sometimes.
On the flip side of the coin, I'm borderline obsessive with some things and can focus on them as though I have a superpower. I can't find any reason for that, but I've found medication to be helpful in turning that focus toward more important things as well as keeping me from forgetting basic items or becoming distracted from basic life functions.
On a completely unrelated note, what rifle is that blue and white thing leaning on? I swear I've seen that stock somewhere before but for the life of me I can't place it.
I'm late to the alcohol discussion but if my house was trashed and shit like that I'd murder somebody, which is why even though my property is 200% perfect for parties, I don't hold any.
People are fucking ridiculous though, especially throwing up into drawers. What the fuck is even the train of thought there? One night I was worse than ever before and I still sprinted outside and threw up (although not a lot, it was just a shot of Svedka straight that threw me over the edge.) even though stupid me was 10 feet from a bathroom.
On the flip side I've seen when people can't handle or pace and throw up everywhere and all I can say is "god damn, even on my worst nights that doesn't even happen to me"
It's crazy. I understand if someone is new to it, and I've been there and done that, sometimes it just happens, but it kind of amazes me sometimes. I drink and I always have a great time, it helps me unwind a lot in a good way. Helps with a lot of anxiety I have built up, too. Although too much alcohol too often tends to be terrible.
I've tried weed and alcohol at the same time though. I still get nightmares and flashbacks. Kath knows exactly what I'm talking about. eughghhhghgh
All I ever drink is Whiskey, Everclear, and Rum along with other assorted non-beer drinks.
Boy, do I love mixing Captain and orange soda, that shit is delicious.
You've got quite a skill there. Having the presence of mind to get somewhere safe before you puke your brains out is impressive. I'm not saying that I understand someone puking in my drawer, but I've thrown up in a few inconvenient places.
I don't necessarily have an issue so much with pacing as I do with drinking for too long. Parties around here go for hours on end and at some point, even if I'm drinking just enough to stay drunk, my body usually will have had enough and it'll end in me throwing up.

witty svensk phrase
Eh I didn't know about this before,
http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Category:Movie
Lists most of the guns in individual movies and has a screencap of the gun in every scene it is used in. This is pretty great whenever I'm not sure on what gun was in a movie.
Also fired a Remington 870 yesterday, pump action shotguns are so satisfying to shoot.
IMFDB is great, I found out about it forever ago and sometimes look through pages just to pass the time. Plus as you said, if you're not sure what gun some guy in a movie's holding, just look it up on IMFDB!
So my mom just called me and told me my step dad is in the hospital on life support and is 100% going to die. I know I've always thought he was a bit of a dick, especially when I was home this summer when he first found out his liver was fucked but holy shit this is a shock and I actually feel terrible now. I know most of you are sick of trying to deal with me and my issues, but I literally have nobody I can talk to other than my mom.
If you want someone to talk to about it, just let me know, more than happy to talk this through with you.
I don't think anyone would disagree with me when I say this isn't exactly something we'd just disregard as you whining, it's an unbelievably terrible situation and you have my sympathies.
I gotta vote tomorrow.
Need to get someone in state office to repeal this SafeAct bullshit.
Just found out through a Facebook conversation my ex from a few years back cheated on me about a month before we broke up. She kept seeing him throughout that last month and after I broke up with her.
Not really upset, but it does explain some of her behaviour from that last month and I had my suspicions near the end.

Elaborate.

Insignificant in comparison to the problems this state is having.
So I don't know how some of you stand on going to a 4-year university straight out of high school, but I really want to do it, and I feel I have the academic abilities to make it worthwhile. I applied to University of Minnesota-Twin Cities because I really like the area and they are a good school for chemical engineering (my prospective major), and I got accepted with a $10k annual scholarship. I couldn't be more ecstatic.
Now to wait for December 16th so I can get the results of my Yale application. Kinda wishful thinking, but I visited there along with Harvard and MIT and I loved all 3. However, I need to take 2 SAT subject tests in order to apply to those two, so I've yet to get those done. Yale is a really awesome place, and it would be the best thing ever for me and my family if I got in.

I don't think I've ever really mentioned it here before, but when I was born, my mom was 18 and my dad was 25. My dad was a college dropout and my mom almost didn't finish high school because of me, so I've always made it my goal to be my best at all times. Getting into an Ivy League would pretty much complete my goal.
Good luck to all of you, and may things turn out for the best. That goes for Taepo and his stepdad, Cardfan, everyone.

IMO there's nothing wrong with college straight out of HS, it's just that too many people without the right attitude or goals/idea of what they want to do think that it's their only choice right out of HS.
I graduated in June and all senior year people were stressing themselves out over applying everywhere and getting scholarships because that's basically what kept being preached to us all HS. My HS did jack shit to help students prepare for anything other than college.
I've kept in touch with some people I went to HS with, others I have on Snapchat/FB/Twitter or whatever, and there's a good portion of them that only talk about how much they party, upload videos of them drinking, and complain about how college sucks or is too hard for them.
Even some of the smartest kids from my school that you'd expect to go Ivy League chose to take a gap year or whatever it's called before college and travel somewhere for actual real world experience. One guy from my HS is in Ecuador doing a shit ton of volunteering and other work.
In other news, my Western Civilization teacher told some of my friends and I that we needed to tone down our video projects. In a normal situation, I would agree, but he has said on multiple occasions that this is a college class (it is, it counts for school credit as well as credit at the local community college) and that usual high school rules don't fully apply. Also, one of the students in his Sociology class brought in a poster about violence against women that was not only in the shape of a penis, but also had graphic photos of real rapes and murders, including full-on penetration, and that poster was hung up in the room for everyone to see.
I think my mostly-censored swear words and drug references are perfectly acceptable.
Any of you guys know anything about volunteer EMS work? I've got a good chunk of spare time on my hands nowadays and I want to do something worthwhile to someone other than myself. I've always been into first-aid type stuff and I'd like to put that interest into practice as well.

This doesn't really exist to my knowledge, any acronym that starts with the word emergency generally isn't done by untrained volunteers.
However, if you're willing to get some training, you can get closer to that idea. At my college I took a first aid course, that got me CPR certified, as well as giving me basic knowledge on how the Emergency Medical System works. I forget the technical name for what I could be qualified as (didn't want to pay money to take the final test) but basically it means that I'm a civilian who is trained to help if they find themselves at the scene of emergency.
Any sort of responder position requires a far more in-depth education, and the only things you can do without any education is probably very basic hospital volunteer work that involves no actual first aid.
My brother is a volunteer fireman and amberlamps guy, and he had to take training for both.

I know I've said it before but I think there's a happy medium between 'go to college everyone is doing it' and 'don't go to college it's a waste of money'. You have to pick what's right for you- I was set on college but didn't want to be saddled with excessive debt, so I took extra classes and got my graduation requirements done a year early, and now I'm working for the government doing what I enjoy and should be totally debt-free within a few years. Do what you think is best for you, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Well if you or anyone else want to help me out here, hit me up on steam or facebook. I'm more likely to be on facebook though and I think i have more of you on there than on steam anyway. And if you don't have me on facebook, it's here
https://www.facebook.com/darren.hynes.37
I may have a some of you blocked from when I was in angsty teenager mode though so if you see I've done that just tell me and I'll see if I can fix that.
Well my life is nowhere near as bad as taeps right now, but my monitor is dying then about an hour after discovering that my surface fell maybe 2 feet landed right on its corner and shattered and became inoperable.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/VKw2x1D.jpg[/t]
So if I get warranty service on my monitor, it'll have to go back. Same with my Surface. So I'll have nothing to do homework with and my school has a no excuses policy on online homework so I'm fucked.
When it rains, it motherfucking pours

Oh I certainly wasn't implying that I want to do EMS work as an untrained civilian. You can still be a volunteer EMT or Firefighter if you've taken training courses. To be certified as a first responder you need around 40 hours of class time plus real-world experience, and all that can be done unpaid.
I keep getting random friend requests on Steam and Facebook from people I don't know, don't play any mutual games with, and have no mutual friends.
Every time I see one I'm just sitting here like "who the hell is that and what do they want"
[editline]3rd November 2014[/editline]
As such, if any of you ever track me down on Steam or Facebook and decide to add me, please PM me here on FP telling me who you are. Random out of the blue requests get old after a while and I ignore them if I don't know who they're from.
