Post your EDC kit time?
I'm late to the D&D thing but today my friends formed a group, using 5e and some modifications for simpler character creation. I'm a dergunborne but I haven't picked a class yet because I don't know what the upsides and downsides are of each. Ranger and Paladin seem interesting so far. Any suggestions?

Here's one book that I got from the used book sale at my university today:

I looked around and I think I'd enjoy Paladin more right now. Trying to figure out which oath I'll take now. Next character will be an insane Warlock and I will give no fucks.
What's that, you want to read a wall of text about a miniature hot air balloon?
So we've been working on a project for chem class that involves making a miniature hot air balloon out of tissue paper(which is a pain in the ass to work with) and today was launch day. After a few last minute tweaks and a lackluster first launch, my partner and I's balloon ended up flying the highest, clearing a 3 story building by about 10-20 feet.
The majority of the class chose one of two simple designs, a cylinder with a rounded top or a more traditional air balloon shape, but for ease of construction(as well as volume calculations)'s sake, and in an attempt to find a better design, we went for a large top surface area and a very blocky overall shape.
The whole thing consists of six 40x40x40cm blocks(for a total volume of 384,000 cubic centimeters, probably the most in the class). The first four are arranged horizontally in a square on top(giving us 6400 square centimeters on top, which just by looking I could tell was way more than anyone elses), and the other two are stacked vertically and placed under the other four, in the center.
The whole interior was without walls, so we ended up making 24 40x40cm panels for construction(for of which were cut to allow air to flow through the lower section up into the main portion of the balloon). Due to the colors we used(white for the top four, grey for the bottom two), we ended up calling it the thundercloud.
To "launch" it we held it over a propane burner to let it fill up with hot air and just let it go. It was pretty cold(by California standards), which probably helped. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures, but I do have our informational poster

I just kinda really wish I could be normal and keep a schedule on my fucking life.
It's 3 AM, I got work in 4 hours. I'm gonna be so fucking tired and I don't even know if I'll make it to work.
So I've been looking into how I want to do combat photography with the military after college (branch, occupation, etc.). I was initially looking at being a Combat Journalist with the Marines, but the Navy's Mass Communication Specialist program has caught my eye as of late. Looks like it's a lot of running with SOF and other similar work, so I'm really leaning toward that now.
My family is hella excited since they're all Navy and they were going to beat the shit out of me if I went Marines anyway.

I'd say go for the MA-1. You can see how it fits on me and I'm hella slim. Its super comfy and super warm.
It was 40 degrees in seattle today and I wore nothing but a T-shirt and that jacket, and I felt perfect. Add another later and I bet you'll feel fine when its quite a few degrees cooler. That or get an M-65 and a liner
We live in the bay area, 40 degrees is unheard of
40 degrees is swimming weather
Anyone have any resources with info on old guns like the Remington Model 1 rolling block, Sharps 1859/1863, etc? Basically stuff from 1850-1899?
inb4google
Neat, thanks. I would also be interested in any documentaries or movies that feature the weapons prominently (e.g. I've heard the Sharps got a lot of screen time in Quigley Down Under but I haven't seen it yet)

I mostly bought it as a coat for winter, where I'm from it usually doesn't get above 30 from November-January.
Its 13 right now actually

N3B is great but unless there's snow on the ground/falling, it looks out of place. I can't speak for the Alpha Industries version but I'm sure it's fine, but I had no problem finding a genuine one for $60 on ebay. And green is the only color choice. If you're lucky you could find an old wool version but those are heavy ass parkas.
Like paindoc said the MA-1 is a good choice. Just throw a hat on if you need it, the N3B hood looks goofy tbh (and that's not even in snorkel mode) but when I put mine on, I'm not going for looks. It's just warm as fark. I went all last fall and winter with my M65 and sweatshirt underneath and I'm doing it again now. I bought a liner but I don't use it often, with a sweatshirt I had more layers (unzip both or leave sweatshirt zipped to vent) I could easily remove and it added a hood and more pockets. And without a liner the M65 is a good fall jacket. If you like pockets, M65 is a great way to go.
M65 isn't a slim fit by any means though, I like it that way because it's better for layers but you can tighten the drawstrings around your waist if you want which helps.

Or go with the N2B.

Ski season: Everyone enjoying themselves on the slopes and drinking hot cocoa while I'm still sitting in my room playing games.
Every winter olympics I watch the skiing and go HOLY SHIT I WISH I COULD SKI
I'll just eat my pizza and french fries instead. At least I have eggnog to wash it down with. And greasy napkins to wipe the tears away.

You can ski mate! Its a great feeling when you nail it for the first time.
I started on stunted and special little skis called snowblades, so I stepped it up to a pair of real skis. I felt held back, couldn't go very fast and stunting potential is limited (some grinds and wee jumps are easy).
A lot of resorts run deals on learn-to-ski packages. You're gonna fall a lot, its not going to be intensely satisfying at first, but that feeling when you just NAIL a turn is AWESOME.
Or when you work on your off-piste technique for ages, falling over and over again in the tree runs finding yourself skiing like you're in a stop motion film. Or running into trees to what seems to be the tune of Yakety Sax. Until you manage to get your short turn game down and you're slaloming back and forth between trees through fresh powder.
My personal favorite last season were smaller mogul runs and off terrain stuff, it was a workout and the snow was nicer there. Cruising through fresh powder feels like you're floating, its just awesome
I'm heading out to an LP Meeting today in Woodbrige NJ which is super far but we're having a mini LP roadtrip to get there. Than after we're gonna go see Fury and I found the AMC Manager's purse last night and called her up to come get it so she said she'd get us in for free.
I'm also looking pretty tactical for this meeting. 5.11 Tactical Khaki's, 5.11 Tactical Pursuit Polo, Merrell MOAB's plus I have my CASTGear Hoodie for the cold and I have all kinds of tactical accessories I always use like my Kershaw, gloves and shit like that.
Look what I found in a shop near me.

Metal and wood 1/6th scale Nugget sniper I got in the mail. Isn't it cute? :v
You can field-strip it like a real one. Hold the trigger to pull the bolt out, the cleaning rod and barrel bands come off, etc. Even has a teeny-tiny little lens inside the scope.

Oh my god that's adorable, where did you get it?
I got it off eBay. It's made by a company called Ti-Lite, who claims to hand-make every one of them.
Here's another pic of it partially disassembled. Click for bigger again because I take stupidly big pics lol

Here's one that's been completely disassembled. I'm amazed at how detailed something so small can be.

iirc there is some russian company that makes 1/6th scale 100% accurate guns. that actually function and work, assuming you had 1/6th scale ammunition. Theyre insanely expensive and pretty much only oil sheikhs buy them iirc.
