i consume like 4000 calories a day and I cant gain weight
now I just need to put on muscle
I have experience here. Age, height and weight for reference?
Drink shitloads of water. Like a huge glass or two before any meal. And maybe exercise.
I don't recommend this but my friend ate zero food and only drank tons of water for ten days and lost a lot of weight. Of course he also tells me his tongue turned green but the point is lots of water good, as long as you don't drink so much that you die like that lady trying to win a Wii way back when.
water isnt going to do shit to lose weight, make you feel a bit fuller (and horrible) but you need to have a calorie deficit to lose anything at all
do so by either exercising or dieting, but best would be both. by diet i dont mean choose a diet and stick with it, i mean watch what you eat and have a good breakfast
if you fast you're going to gain back the weight you lost and more

You weight more than I do actually, and you're the same height, though younger.
Basically you're a healthy and fine weight, if you really want to gain weight, you'll want to gain muscle, so lifting, pushups, situps and shit, and do minor cardio workouts.
I personally drink a protein shake every night before bed because your body consumes its self while you sleep for energy, it helps me keep weight over night. I'd suggest you do the same, though not every night as your metabolism clearly isn't as active as mine. If you can find them, Core Power protein shakes are kind of expensive but they're one of few kinds that doesn't taste like chalk and water, my favourite being the chocolate one because it contains more protein than other flavours. If you don't care for taste (I take them every day, so it's nice to have something good tasting once in a while), just buy powder and make your own shakes, it's a lot cheaper. Take protein before or after you work out, and don't skip meals. Eat high protein meals and plenty of carbs to give your body energy and stuff to work with. Don't over do it though, too much protein is just as bad as no protein.
I basically take 6000 calories on my off days and 7000 on my workout days, as well as after work out protein. When you're done gaining weight, you can drop protein supplements from everyday shit and take them on a semi-regular basis, just maintain a healthy diet and exercise to keep your body from deciding it doesn't need the muscle anymore and cannibalizing it for energy. Basically because you run out of glycogen for energy, starts to break down proteins (muscle) for amino acids for energy and you lose muscle mass. Hence all the protein you intake for lifting.
The reason behind cardio shit for losing weight is because stored fat is burned slowly and requires oxygen and cardio workouts require a massive amount of oxygen and go for a long time, unlike lifting.

Haha, sorry, I didn't really finish explaining the water bit. I wasn't actually recommending I water diet, I just meant that drinking a bunch of water before a meal can help you eat less, not much else.

You're actually a pretty good weight, assuming you're healthy and most of it isn't fat.
I need to lose weight, fast. I'm fed up with my body's condition.
Just eat healthy stuff for awhile ( fruits, veggies, PB, oatmeal, skinless chicken, fish). Then start lifting/ carido. Start light and work your way up. It's hard starting to workout, but just keep pushing yourself.
Thanks guys for the help, I appreciate it!
Also eggs and egg whites

Light cardio. Not constant cardio, but having a good run time is important IMO. Honestly, like, fast run time is what basically qualifies you for the Rangers, not even joking. So while you may have smaller initial gains, you'll thank your self for the cardio later because your endurance will be better as well as your ability to be well-rounded in shape, and not just good at lifting heavy shit like the human crane.

Any cardio work out will help you, just long endurance, heavy oxygen workouts. Swimming, jogging, running, hiking, etc...
Start out with dedicating a day a week and then work to give more days as you get into the routine. Max of every other day, because working out every day is bad for you.
swimming and cycling are the best exercises you can do as they use every muscle in your body and is not damaging like jogging as it can bugger your knees but hill running can build your muscles quick cause that shits intense

I'm gonna go with this and recommend cycling for anyone who wants to get into shape. It seriously doesn't even matter what kind of bike you have, just getting out there and peddling until you think you can't anymore sounds like a great workout.
In cross country easily 1/3 the team, 3-ish months out of the 5 into the season, had some kind of un-identified injury with their knees or feet or some muscle that made them not want to run at all or run much worse than they'd normally be able to. I've never been too into cycling, but I just recently bought a helmet (that actually fits me) and want to start bike workouts. Cycling seems like everything good about running without the constant injuries that inexperienced/new runners constantly suffer. And if you're going to run a lot you have to worry about shoes, and running shoes are not fun to shop for (they're all neon, being of many different companies they're all weirdly sized, and you've got to focus on a particular "type" of shoe, and the last bit there was never taught to me personally).
Aerobic is better if I want to be in shape but not have giant muscles, right?
can't recommend cardiac activites enough
i've managed to shed a few pounds in the past month or two just by running and being on the rowing machine
hoping to get a bike too by the summer to help out with that and soon i shall dethrone myself as the fattest ifapper
Flesh-eating bacteria is the best way to lose weight.
Not eating wheat and dairy is the best way for me. I lose about 20lbs in a month (without wourking out) if I just stop eating wheat and dairy.

That's because you've dropped carbohydrates and proteins (dairy contains protein) from your diet, this isn't actually healthy because those are what your body burns for energy, you're actually going to lose muscle mass before you lose a lot of fat because your body has an easier time breaking down protein than fat cells for energy without a lot of oxygen (which is why it breaks down fat for energy when you do aerobic exercises). You're actually hurting your self by doing this.

No, because you substitute the carbohydrates with fats which your body burns better than carbohydrates and then have a diet somewhere around 60% Fat, 35% Proteins and then 5% carbs. I would like to go into AFROTC and somebody in the Air Force is currently working with me to help prepare for it physically and this is what he is having me do.

Although I am way beyond the physical fitness of the majority of your average american.
I remember last year when my goal was to lose weight, now I mostly just lift and slowly become less fat. I'm 6ft, around 180lbs (I dropped down from 190 to 175, then focused on lifting primarily and went to 180). Once I get a better schedule and diet in I'll focus more on losing some fat, but the more I lift the hungrier I get so I just eat more and drink lots of water.
BTW
Squats are the best

I've been looking into AFROTC as well, mainly because I'm pretty sure I have little to no chance getting into the AF Academy since it's so competitive.
Beginning of summer 2012: 5ft 11in, 195 pounds and feel like a sack of shit. Decide to go on a diet, lose about 30 pounds over summer vacation after drinking only water, walking or jogging for 2 hours a day, and lifting 25 pound boxes full of lightbulbs and shit for my summer job. Right now I'm at about 150 pounds and wow so thats how my cheekbones look like.
I lost weight over time not by watching what I eat, but by how much. Some days I'll go without lunch and breakfast, then eat just dinner.
