-Worse Fuel Economy
-Worse at delivering and using a car's power
Twenty years ago sure, but unless you're a professional driver in a race where exact timing of gear changes is critical you're not going to be able to decide when to change gears better than a modern machine. Computer control is the standard these days and it's very precise, some cars even adapt to your driving habits to fine-tune the gear changes to match your desired performance. Manual transmission is retained in commercial (non-racing) vehicles for nostalgia and simplicity, not practicality. This article explains it pretty well.
-Creates less attentive drivers (which leads to more accidents)
-Far less enjoyable to drive, which matters a ton if you do it everyday
I know people who have gotten into accidents because they were too busy dealing with the clutch to pay attention, and some people prefer to just be able to push a pedal and go, so those points really go both ways.
I think it's a pretty minor thing for people to get hung up on, IMO.
Manuals are also more reliable. Personally, I'm a strong advocate for keeping computer controls out of cars, because the more computerized things they put in your car, the more they're eliminating the average person's ability to work on their own car.

Well, the idea is that computers can help the car diagnose itself, but obviously that functionality is not fully there yet. There aren't many things more frustrating than trying to purge an ABS unit without a proprietary scan tool.
nowadays standard/autotragic really is a matter of personal opinion. I drive an automatic primarily but I know how to drive standard, I just don't feel like driving should be a chore. Mind you that does not mean I think it should be easy enough to do eyes closed
I would drive a manual, but I have no dosh so I'm stuck with the family car, which is worse than an autotragic: it has a CVT. :c
My family doesn't own a manual so I don't get to drive one
yeah my mom would never buy a car that basically only I would be able to drive because manual
im having her friend teach me how to drive manual though
my truck is manual, and my car is automatic.

Well, I guess that answers that.
Well I finished my light up andy-warhol box thingy and even with four leds the transparency of the lithograph means you can't really make the face out too well.
but now we have to find twenty items outside of the artist (people, events, laws, movements, etc) to our essay that prove our thesis.
My thesis is that Andy Warhol was trying to show how everything was being commercialized, even people and their images. I've only found like 3 proofs of my thesis halp plox
halp

holy shit fuck that I know what I'm doing now. I am changing my thesis to "Andy Warhol created abstract art from popular culture to show us the effects the visual can have on us- visual images can invoke thought and emotion"

Very carefully
That moment when you're listening to music, and you realize what you thought were weird remixes of voices was actually a full length movie auto-playing on youtube in the background.
and the movie is 23 minutes in.

What paints, brushes, etc shoud i use? Whst do i use to thin it? How thin should it be? How do you do rust, or just weathering in general? How do you do texture?

Gradients???
You want good quality hobby paints. Weathering is accomplished with drybrushing and inks
My mom's piano teacher gave her an original unseen photo of Adolph Hitler to give to me..
What paints, brushes, etc shoud i use?
My preference is Vallejo paints, and either a Raphael Series 8404 (first choice) or a Winsor & Newton Series 7 (second choice), both Kolinsky sable brushes. For a new painter they can be expensive and daunting to take care of, though, so I would suggest going to a hobby store and getting a pack of cheap synthetic brushes.
Other brands of paint will work fine, but you absolutely want acrylic paint, not enamel, oil, or lacquer.
Whst do i use to thin it?
If it's acrylic, water.
How thin should it be?
Typically it should be thinned to the consistency of milk, but this varies depending on the paint, as some with weak pigments (yellows, whites, reds) need to be slightly thicker for adequate coverage. You'll have to get a feel for it.
In general, you want it as thick as it can be without obscuring detail or leaving visible brushstrokes. You can thin paint to be 10:1 water to paint and it'll work just fine, but it will need an enormous number of layers to form a solid coat.
How do you do rust, or just weathering in general?
It's tricky to make convincing, since what would be realistic at model scale (a mass of brown) looks generally bad. Stippling is a good technique to do it, or light and careful drybrushing, or washing. They all produce different results.
How do you do texture?
Depends on what you mean by 'texturing'. Generally, differences in material texture will be conveyed through lighting- if you want a robe to look faded, you use subdued highlights and shadows, but if you want shiny leather, you use very harsh highlights. That's pretty advanced stuff though.
thinner is always better than thicker, if it's too thick it'll blob and fuck up your model's details... I did that once.
friendly or informative FRIENDLY OR INFORMATIVE
Painting miniatures is much more about technique and theory than most guides I've found online indicate, and there seems to be this unspoken attitude that anything requiring more thought than base colors + wash + drybrush is for 'advanced painters', which is totally wrong, since there are a lot of really simple, straightforward techniques that can drastically improve the quality of your paintwork. This is why I often wish I had someone to show me right and wrong when I first started learning. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Also, because you asked about rust, I went and found some of my old work that heavily used rust effects:

I used a variety of techniques on the metals to simulate weathering and rust so if there's any one in particular that jumps out at you I can see if I still have the recipe.
how would you do the light rust like this one?
[t]http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gBLA3ARxbqQ/T5A72veHaNI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/WkhB04REllI/s1600/AxisHvyrocket.jpg[/t]
or the striping
[t]http://www.adpublishing.de/Dust_Walker_and_Squad.jpg[/t]
what about the way it looks like mud is caked onto the walker on the left?
[t]http://viewfromtheturret.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/dw-jagdluther-mickey-prem.jpg[/t]
also on tanks their armor will have what looks like a bunch of horizontal or vertical weld marks on it?
like
[t]http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/thumblarge_327/1225272787nJ2899.jpg[/t]
what is the real life purpose of that and how is it replicated on a smooth model?

zimmerit can't really be replicated on models any easy way, so armor model companies came out with these: http://www.scalehobbyist.com/catagories/Detailing_and_Weathering/TAM00012644/product.php?gclid=COiMl-iF4LcCFWKCQgodHCoAcw
that sheet's for an eleferd, and every vehicle has their own sheet
light rust is best done carefully with an airbrush, or actually, lightly using stippling on a "wide" brush. "striping" is accomplished by dry brushing onto edges, and caked mud can be done using thick-er paint, or just actually going out and spreading mud on your model. MiG Pigments also makes mud, iirc.
okay what is the difference between dry brushing and regular brushing?
and i didnt mean the weathered edges, I mean the stripes.
[editline]12th June 2013[/editline]
also how much would an airbrush cost
