okay what is the difference between dry brushing and regular brushing?
dry brushing is when you have the paint on the brush to a nearly dry state (for example, by flicking the brush on a surface enough) so you can do things like add mud marks or the "out in the field for a long time" look to vehicles
best way to dry brush
dip brush in paint
wipe brush on tissue
apply to model
you guys are forgetting about pencils, which can be useful
I remember when I used to paint wh40k, I made two special brushes just for eyes where one had three straws left for the white part, and the other one had one straw, for the pupil.
Ah, back in the days where I didn't have shaky hands...

Okay, so here's what you do. Go out, buy another 20 of those, and paint them one at a time to develop your skills, and by the last one, you'll be about half as good as that picture!

Kraftwerk makes wonderful music
Alright, so I struck a deal with my dad. He said he'd buy me a car if I get a job. Then I'll have to pay him back in the future. After some Craigslist scouting, I've found some that fit my wants and my dad's requirement that it has to be domestic.

My favorite of these is the Phoenix, but I have also always wanted something with a manual. The Phoenix has a Chevy 305 small block, so aftermarket is plentiful. The Phoenix is also (in my opinion) the best looking of the 3. However, being a late 70's car, it has as much horsepower as walking.
The Turbo Coupe is probably going to be the most fun to drive, but I feel like I'd run into issues with the turbo and intercooler later down the road.
The Focus is pretty bland, although there really aren't any 3-doors in my area at all. It'll also be the most economical.
Help me decide IFAP!
Also, I know that you guys are going to pound me with suggestions of Jeeps and Camaros, which I am open to I suppose, but these are the 3 that caught my interest the most.
I'm not sure if any of those cars will make it to your job and back without breaking.

If you're on a budget you don't want a car, you want a light truck/jeep. Car motors and transmissions are not as rugged and don't last. Especially considering you are in Illinois and you have to deal with rust issues. I would look for a Blazer or Tahoe with the 350. You'll get 500k miles out of that motor easy. Alternatively a Jeep Cherokee or Wrangler with the 4.0 I6; Another halfmillion mile motor. Stay away from the Grand Cherokee, those things are loaded with problems. The other advantage to these trucks is that most of them come with Dana axles which are p. much invincible.
The problem you're running into here is your dad's requirement for it to be domestic. If you want a small car your best option is a little VW turbo-diesel or old Audi Quatto
