I'm excited for that possibility. If the specimens are faster it would add a whole new element to the game like making camping less relevant and having run and gun and relying on teamwork to make sure you don't get surrounded. I'm not saying I would prefer this, but I want to see how it might play out.

The lore behind it is that they tried to make a super soldier by injecting them with adrenaline and stimulants, but it made them extremely aggressive and it got so out of control that they strapped their hands in those blender locks to keep them in place.
when they broke out of the labs they weren't strong enough to get their hands out of the blender locks, so they just carry them around as an improvised weapon.
