• Why we (The United Kingdom), should continue to have a Royal Family.

Before I start, I have to admit that for those who live in the UK, the royal family doesn't mean as much as it used to but i'm beginning to laugh at those who say we should get rid of them. I'll take a prime example; the 'Fuck the royal wedding' facebook group has thousands of posts from idiots who are from middle class working backgrounds saying 'F U QUEEN', 'William and Kate should have a wedding on a giro budget'. Throughout these posts I've seen very little intelligence about how the Royal's benefit us more than we think.* May I direct you to this video now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhyYgnhhKFw For those who love to complain about how your tax money is getting spent, well, you are actually saving 2 pounds (!!!OMG!!) per year due to the royal family. If you guys check the video out, the land that the royal's own from hundreds of years back still creates money of up to £190 million that gets paid straight to the parliament. And yes guess what, that money goes towards your facilities and schools! To top it all off, the tourism value of the family is HUGE. The video (although it may be inaccurate) shows how large this income is. Just giving facepunch another side to the royal family, yes even I think that they are quite pointless in what they do, but they should always remain there. *I am aware that facebook consists of huge amounts of retards.

Hey you watched a video and posted about it [editline]28th April 2011[/editline] and tried to sound smart about it in the process
Or, how about this? We convert all palaces owned by the royals in to museums, which would still bring in tourism and we also wouldn't have to pay for the other expenses brought by the royal family!
ugh, the royal wedding. That is so hyped up here in Australia. Its not our country and we dont give a shit!
Or, how about this? We convert all palaces owned by the royals in to museums, which would still bring in tourism and we also wouldn't have to pay for the other expenses brought by the royal family!
I like the sound of that.
What do they even do? I know what they USED to do but what have they dwindled into?
Or, how about this? We convert all palaces owned by the royals in to museums, which would still bring in tourism and we also wouldn't have to pay for the other expenses brought by the royal family!
They own the land though. What would make them want to sell it?
They keep talking about the fucking royal weddings here in Canada, i don't give a fuck god damnit.
as far as i'm concerned, the royals represent england and only england. you'd be hard pushed to find someone in scotland that feels passionately for them. i personally know none. except for some die hard rangers fans maybe.
Hey you watched a video and posted about it [editline]28th April 2011[/editline] and tried to sound smart about it in the process
Pretty much, I can't seem to recall myself saying that these are my ideas and thoughts, I'm just being a messenger. I reckon you're just posting crap to raise your post count. It's debatable if you even know anything about the British Monarchy. I should add, I'm from Scotland and whilst I don't feel passionately for them, I sure can see good reasons to keep them.
Who gives a shit about the cost? Why would anyone want a monarch?
I don't care about the Royal wedding or the Royal family in general, I'm Australian. But the wedding is a good thing for the British economy because of the influx in tourists.
Who gives a shit about the cost? Why would anyone want a monarch?
That's retarded. Fair enough, there is no need for a monarch in terms of politics anymore, but the fact that the Monarchy brings in huge profits is why we should want one. Britain is struggling (like many other countries) at the moment and any extra money we can get is a bonus.

We Dutch people pay 5 euro a person a year for the royal family. They pay just under an euro a person a year. And get more money in return. Shit.
Then remove any and all power from royal people (ceremonial or otherwise).
They hardly have power.
Who gives a shit about the cost? Why would anyone want a monarch?
It makes the UK more individual and gives us at least something we can say we still have
If we didn't have a monarch, we would have a president. Personally I prefer Liz rather than Dave
They hardly have power.
The queen can decide what governments can form, for example if the BNP had a winning number of votes she could say nope and not allow them to win.
It makes the UK more individual and gives us at least something we can say we still have
That's like saying I should cut off my finger to be different. Why would you ever want a monarch to differentiate yourself from the rest of the world? That's patently silly.
Can't Parliament strip the Crown of their lands? It's not like they haven't stripped the crown out of all of their other powers.
The royal family doesn't have a right to own all land to begin with. They own(ed) it because of monarchy which is replace by democracy. This is like saying dictators should still own nearly all land in a country after democracy is established.
Great... tourism. Anyone else not all that convinced by the argument? It's pretty good for the economy, therefore we should support an arbitrary, backwards regime with no legitimacy? Giving us all a couple of quid a year isn't really enough of an argument to sway my opinions. A standard of rightness and wrongness that gives profit the last say is inherently wrong, as I see it.
The royal wedding has brought a lot of tourism to your country.
That's like saying I should cut off my finger to be different. Why would you ever want a monarch to differentiate yourself from the rest of the world? Whilst I'm sure the Royal family does have an effect on the country - I don't give a flying FUCK about some prince getting married to some bint he met at uni. WHOOPEE SOMEONE'S GETTING MARRIED
Well it may well be silly but if you cut your finger off it creates a talking point if all other conversation fails
Thanks you've convinced me your argument is rock solid and you're not actually nuts at all
