Are you talking about his change in lyrics? If so, he did say that he was tired of rapping about rape and murder. Besides, a bit of character/music progression is healthy for musicians of all types; nobody wants the same shit over and over again.
I don't think it's bad though. Bastard was a pretty serious and heavy song before Goblin.
The thing is people were taking him seriously so he had to say he wasn't serious.
If I made a song about rape that wasn't serious, I wouldn't want people to start blaming me when they rape people.

Tylers always had two modes. Emotional and serious; and sarcastic, over the top, satirical rap that makes fun of other rap artists.
Obviously if tyler is on tour, hanging out with his friends, filming shit like Loiter Squad, he's going to do more fun stuff.
