Chris Pence is stupid.
Don't be a backpacker Tyler hates backpackers
I'm not being a backpacker here, i'm just saying that for the most part there isn't any "real",definitive style of hip-hop and it pisses me off when people say there is; just like any other genre hip-hop needs to evolve otherwise it becomes stale. Also manufactured =/= popular. IMO manufactured stuff is like Flo Rida who for the most part has similar songs some of which rely heavily on sampling. I'm not denouncing all popular Hip-Hop I mean there's plenty of commercially successful material that is also critically acclaimed you just need to look at Kanye's newest album as an example. Rejecting stuff just because it's popular keeps you from hearing stuff you'll potentially like, as a matter of fact I found out about Odd Future through the masses of hype surrounding them.
Are you Meelad?
Nope. I saw this in my news-feed because my brother commented further down.
I'm not being a backpacker here.
What is a backpacker?
What is a backpacker?
Back in the day people used to carry backpacks full of spray cans and also demo's of new artists. The majority of them rejected mainstream hip-hop and stuck to the underground. Most people thought that they were just buying into a trend seeing as the majority of them came from the suburbs. [editline]29th May 2011[/editline] Actually here this explains it better [release] Backpacker is based on a fashion style popular in the mid to late 90s where people involved in hip-hop wore large backpacks. Originated by graf writers who kept all their cans and nozzles in the packs, the style caught on quick with the suburbanites and rock kids who didn't want to stray too far from their style but still wanted to have a hip-hop flava. People use it now as a derogatory term for nerd-rappers, hippy-hoppers, and other fringe hip-hop followers, referencing the fact most of the listeners are suburbanites buying or co-opting into a certain style.[/release]

I have started a dick-swinging contest that I cannot win.
I lost before it began.
Including all things OF, I have 203. MY PENIS IS BIGGEST.
Thing is, I don't have any Domo or Mike G music. Since I don't like them. /halfassedfan
Mike G has the most boring name in OF.
Mike G is a G.
Taco is by far the most talented rapper
What is a backpacker?
The definition can vary but in common usage it's middle-class (usually white) kids who are relatively inexperienced with hip-hop music and culture but loudly parrot a bunch of myths about what's "real" hip hop and "fake" hip hop and make ridiculous value judgments about how the music they like is better than Lil Wayne or whoever. Backpackers usually like to listen to Def Jux and Jedi Mind Tricks and Immortal Technique and stuff like that. Basically big know-it-alls who are actually noobs. OF is funny because they have a lot of backpacker fans, even though Tyler doesn't really relate to them:
People excited thinking shit is so tight Getting co-signs from rappers that I don't even like What the fuck you want me to do? Start to gobble his mic? And start Jackson him off until his cock's blasting off? Fuck that, these niggas ain't fucking with me Cause I don't listen to the Immortal of Tech of the nique And all this underground bullshit that's never gon' peak On the Billboard Top 20 and Jam of the Week I'd rather listen to Badu and Pusha the T And some Waka Flocka Flame instead of that real hip hop That's bull of the sheet but they want to critique
One funny thing is going on rapgenius and seeing how the OF fans try to rationalize these lyrics into being anti-"mainstream" and pro-underground.
I'm not being a backpacker here, i'm just saying that for the most part there isn't any "real",definitive style of hip-hop and it pisses me off when people say there is; just like any other genre hip-hop needs to evolve otherwise it becomes stale.
That's not what you said, though. You dismissed Eminem as "manufactured" hip-hop, which is ignorant and ridiculous for these and other reasons: -Eminem is one of the best technical rappers of all time. The only way you could possibly draw a line that puts him in the "manufactured radio rap" camp is if you are a gigantic backpacker. -"Manufactured" is a pretty meaningless term in this context, but if you're trying to imply Eminem only makes songs for the radio money and doesn't care about rapping then you a) are wrong and b) haven't listened to any Eminem songs recently. Or, like, ever. -Eminem is probably the single biggest influence on OFWGKTA.
Also manufactured =/= popular. IMO manufactured stuff is like Flo Rida who for the most part has similar songs some of which rely heavily on sampling.
Are you trying to equate sampling with mainstream success? Do you listen to hip-hop even?
Rejecting stuff just because it's popular keeps you from hearing stuff you'll potentially like, as a matter of fact I found out about Odd Future through the masses of hype surrounding them.
Odd Future isn't popular. They have a cult following.
i thought sampling played a pretty big part in like, all hip hop?
Sampling was huge in the 80s and 90s but as copyright law caught up with it and made it pretty hard (or financially prohibitive) to do a lot of sampling, it petered way out and sampled rap beats gave way to stuff based on synthesizers and session musicians. Nowadays sampling is most commonly associated with underground throwback rap, the stuff backpackers like--pretty much the opposite of Flo Rida, in other words.
Yonkers is great to listen to when you're angry as fuck.
As is Turnt Down.
But Pete Rock could do beautiful things with a sampler :3
As is Turnt Down.
What about Radicals, that shit gets my hyped as fuck.
