Bystander Effect applies to all threads and is an overarching problem when moderators don't want to do their job somewhere, not that they should have to. The Facepunch comment also applies 100% to every other NSFW thread and avatar.

There's nothing wrong with discussing an option outside the poll.
The only people, in the end, who matter are the moderators. Not the people going "ew icky, look at this icky thread I clicked on" and not the people going "wow I [I][B]NEED[/B][/I] to share my porn."
Yes, closing the thread is the least amount of effort and, potentially, the least amount of backlash for the moderators. Leaving it there would probably get perpetual bitching from the people who are disgusted by it. However, that's all that's being solved and that's a really, really shallow field. You could literally boil this entire introduction down to "man the moderators don't want to deal with this" which makes me question why they even bothered with a poll in the first place.
I like to think in the back of my mind that Garry voted to keep it only to fuck with the moderators and subject them to it. :v:

Can I take a moment to say this is a really silly reason to get rid of parts of a forum like this, and it kind of makes me sad that there haven't been many good reasons for mass removal of this stuff?
I don't know what kind of life you live, but if you have multiple people over who want to look at things on facepunch, you can't really expect fast threads of all places to be happy funland for the whole family. Almost nothing on this entire website stands out to me as something that's family friendly, it's an internet forum for discussing all sorts of random nonsense without the general cancer of places like reddit or 4chan. Not wanting to go there just because you don't like some of the things there without actually going to any of those places is also kind of petty. This is literally just asking to remove what a lot of other people like purely because you don't like it.
If you have people who know about the internet over, is it really that much of a crippling social issue to have things like that around? Is it really that outlandish? Are you afraid people are going to look at the names of threads that random strangers make and disrespect YOU because of it?
If everyone wants all that stuff gone, then fine. It doesn't belong. But since it's increasingly obvious there isn't a vast majority to this at all, and facepunch doesn't strike me as the family fun central of the internet, I think it's kind of terrible to try to purge what a lot of people in your community like just because you don't like it.
Getting rid of all nsfw content is another matter entirely, and I imagine that wouldn't even remotely happen at all. Getting rid of only this specific kind of thing because you hope the whole place will become purified for the true facepunchers or something is a tad ridiculous.
Still, think there should be a crack down on obviously illegal and terrible content though, but since this poll was made to be a vague one and that isn't an option, that can't be addressed fairly yet. I'd be glad to vote on that.

I meant to say that someone voting No because they expect/want NSFW content gone is different from someone voting No because they dislike the WTYO thread.
One is under an assumption that may never be fulfilled, and the other is a direct vote.

This poll is made terribly, honestly. It's not asking to crack down on just that thread because of what's been in it and let them try different and safer things, and it's not asking to get rid of all nsfw content, which I imagine wouldn't be nearly this close of a vote. Instead, it's the super vague "get rid of weird porn" which is basically just asking for free reign to delete all "not normal" nsfw things, which is kind of stupid if we're keeping porn either way.
A lot of mods obviously don't want porn at all. Unfortunately, it's increasingly obvious that's just part of this website now, no matter how badly people want glorious facepunchu to be purified and return to it's true sfw state(even if that's not really what it's been for a very long time >_>)
Blanket banning all this for no reason other than "ew I don't like it you guys are fags" is all we'll get out of this. There is no blanket porn ban. There is no "delete this one thread because it's done real bad things." It's just that one option, and I think that option is terrible.

garry doesn't care. That is, and always has been, his stance on basically everything here. Unless it's illegal or annoys him particularly, he won't give a shit and just gets on with his job.
Besides, his points were hardly "fine", they're the same repeated points that people have argued since this thread started. Especially the point about removing NSFW stuff entirely, we managed it years ago before the forum softened the fuck up and let trashy posters stay rather than banning their dumb asses. The allowance of NSFW content is a very new thing on Facepunch.

Most of those old custom forums were trashed because of a lack of interest. Not worth running an entire section for a small group of posters really. RP Wonderland was just spectacularly weird in all the wrong ways, but that isn't why it died if I remember.
