From what I've observed, it seems that the people who go to the WTYOTM thread go there because it's interesting/fun to see what other's interests are, they want to discuss fetishes and why some might be turned on by it, and it might help some discover new tastes in porn/smut or something.
The reason they want to keep it on there is because A:The above reasons listed above, B: You can learn about other facepuncher' s interests, and C: Because they want to do it in a convenient forum with strict rules that KEEP cp, Gore, scat, and stuff off the thread.

Okay but:
A) There is a precedent for this happening, even when said thread (wherein dude posted his wangle-dangle) was being viewed with suspicion by mods.
B) It's been established that the mod looking over the current version of the thread is, if not totally condoning the content, definitely has a tumblr filled with porn and discusses things in said thread with the regulars. He also didn't ban the guy who posted the cub porn, instead banning the guy calling him out for it (admittedly they were naughty posts but still very transparent behavior)
C) The established rules already preclude vore, lolicon, but that stuff has still been posted; the rules can't be trusted.
