I think there is a difference between a pedophile and a child molester. I do not think someone who is honest about their pedophilia and using "simulated" child porn should be considered a criminal in the same way as a child molester or someone who uses actual child porn. The viewing of "simulated" child porn should of course not be encouraged. Anyone experiencing pedophilic urges should immediately seek out the help of a mental care provider before their condition leads them down a darker path. What I am saying is that a zero tolerance policy of treating simulated child porn exactly the same way as actual child porn will only discourage people from seeking the help they need. A clear distinction needs to be drawn between actions that directly hurt children and actions that could conceivably be a coping mechanism for someone struggling with pedophilia. So yes, there is a reasoned case for defending some pedophiles. I am defending pedophiles. What are we, Fox News? We can come to a reasoned conclusion about the issue. Treating all pedophiles as child molesters may seem like taking a hard stance against an undeniably terrible thing, but in the end it will only result in more child molestations.
