retarded dumbass fuckshit. PAGE KING, PEASANTS /caps
Im kind of divided on this one. I dont hate smokers but I understand in a crowded place there smoking can effect many people.
I myself do not smoke, but I think this is total bullshit. This is just so they can pull in money from fining people caught smoking outdoors. It was bad enough that a pack costs as much as an inexpensive dinner for 2(roughly $13 where I am). I know I am most likely wrong, but it seems like they are more concerned with getting every last cent out of us rather than our health and well being.
I honestly can't believe FP's response to this. I'm seeing sweeping generalizations and overreactions all over this thread. What happened to FP being about personal liberties?
We got tired of smokers killing themselves and taking us with them.
We got tired of smokers killing themselves and taking us with them.
Oh come on you're not gonna die from somebody smoking on the sidewalk, stop acting as if cigarette smoke is chlorine gas. People who smoke it directly for their entire lives don't develop cancers until their 70s or 80s, catching some smoke in the open won't do anything to you.
Also New York is polluted to shit already it's not like a few puffs of tobacco is going to make it any worse.

I say invest in electric cigarettes.
I know 5 people who died of lung cancer from smoking and they weren't over 40 :(
Jesus they must've smoke more than the average person. My Mom started smoking at 16 and quit in her 40's, so far she has no sign of lung cancer or any smoking related disease.
The way I look at this is, don't hate cigarettes, hate or punish the people that aren't considerate with their smoking. It's perfectly fine to smoke in these places they're blocking, so long as people aren't around. Lawmakers and anti-smoking rights advocates never take those details into account, though. Now even considerate smokers will be punished if they're caught smoking, even when there is nobody around to breathe their smoke.
Minneapolis banned smoking in bars a couple years ago, smokers can still stand outside though. Fuckin new york.
Also New York is polluted to shit already it's not like a few puffs of tobacco is going to make it any worse.
What are you talking about.... Have you ever even been here?
What are you talking about.... Have you ever even been here?
yeah it's cold and everything is expensive and the traffic is the worst I've ever seen.
Even though i hate smoking, i cant think of a more ignorant way to forget your own people's rights. My rule is this, If it's not my body, then i dont give a shit. You should be able to choose your own way of living. Either smoking or not smoking. A government should not be able to be in charge of your own body. And i couldn't give less shits about second hand smoke.

This ban was made to troll new yorkers.
"I have AIDS but I don't give a fuck about my sex partners. :downs:"
Who is talking about aids?
"oh no they banned smoking we're on a slippery slope towards a police state" :pseudo: [editline]22nd February 2011[/editline] that guy in the video, what a numpty
I don't like smokers but this is just ridiculous...
I don't like smokers but this is just ridiculous...
i thought the ban on smoking in public places is fairly commonplace? why is it ridiculous
This is probably late, but to be fair the law only prohibits smoking specific outdoor city-owned public zones, such as parks, beaches and pedestrian plazas. I'm sure no one will give a shit if you start smoking by the street or outside a building/restaurant.
Did that guy just say that we can't have salt, we can't have sugar? where the fuck did that came from?
Why do people give a shit if someone smokes, it's not a big deal
Second hand smoke is really nasty.
If I lived in New York, I would open up a chain of areas where you could smoke. They would just be big open rooms where you could sit around, smoke, and buy cigarettes. You would have to pay a dollar or two every time you entered or you could pay per month or year. There would be really good ventilation though. I don't smoke, but I would make a lot of money.
This has nothing to do with the actual ban on smoking, it has to do with the higher ups taking away the rights of the many, and that's bullshit. You don't like someone smoking next to you? Fucking move somewhere else. It's not that god damn hard to take 20 steps in the other direction without making a hissy fit about it and eventually getting a ban on smoking in most public areas. If someone starts up a cigarette near me, I'll just walk away no questions asked and I wouldn't give a shit. It's that person's right to smoke that stick just as much as it's my right to simply walk away. Government restrictions on what people can and cannot do is just one step closer to complete government control over everybody's rights. Land of the free? My ass.
That first dude who said that they are becoming a police state and whining about having to use a bicycle instead of a car just went full retard.

Smoking doesn't bother me in the least unless I'm sitting somewhere and the smoke will constantly be going into me. If its on the side walk I don't give a shit.
This has nothing to do with the actual ban on smoking, it has to do with the higher ups taking away the rights of the many.
No its a ban on smoking. Sure im all for allowing people to smoke but when someones rights interfere with another persons then Im not going to always be on board. I mean most smokers are able to smoke right before they go to a huge gathering of people. I mean sure smoke out side if you want but if its in a place with many people then you should either get an electric cigarette or smoke before or after your next to a crowd.
Parks, beaches, and Plazas is all they are banning. You can smoke walking down the street, outside work, etc. Get over it.
