• I'm being sued for breaking a window to save a dog's life

You probably should have just called the cops/animal control/whatever. People are fucking crazy and you're generally better off minding your own business. You're probably going to get stuck paying for the window, which will be cheaper than a paying a lawyer to even answer your call.
You should probably get a lawyer.
Im honestly on your side man..good luck alright
OP, depending on the state this took place there may be laws in place that protect you in an incident like this. For example; in Arizona there are "Necessity Defense"; which is applicable depending on a few factors such as how much the animal was suffering and if you had enough time to call 911. You most likely won't be charged. In most states, leaving a dog or child unattended in a vehicle is a citable offense and can even lead to jail time.
You fucking people
Honestly what? If he were to get away with having me pay his damage (even though he would know it's completely unfair and he was in his wrong) I'd just toss a rock tru his windows a few weeks later even if it's only for my own conscious. He shouldn't be able to get away with something like that.
Tbh you probably should have called the emergency services first and asked them for advice. Your immediate action would have been understandable if it was a child in the car, but it's just the case that a dog's life isn't as valuable. At least if you called the emergency services and they told you to smash the window, that would then negate any liability on you. Even better, if there was a clear indication of which store the dog's owner had gone into, it would have been better to find a staff member in that store and have them use their PA system to alert the owner and publicly humiliate them for it.
You should fuck his fat pig of a wife.
please take a step back from posting for a bit.
found an article on just this thing from his area- http://www.azfamily.com/news/Legal-to-break-car-window-for-dog-rescue-261843661.html [editline]6th October 2014[/editline] pretty sure all is fine, given not only one, but two people (lady who recorded) agreed it was the proper course of action at the time. Not calling the cops first was a little foul, but again they take all this into consideration.
Thank you for this, I tried to find out some information regarding destruction of property in this state and I was unable to find anything. Maybe i should have used the keywords "dog" "car window" "dehydration" or something like that. I'll work on a case in order to prove that it was a reasonable action.
Well you'll probably end up having to pay for the window you destroyed. You're lucky he wasn't the kind of guy that would stomp you for busting his window. In one respect I admire your seemingly pure motivation to help, but how would you know what a dog 'about to pass out' looks like? Probably should have alerted the proper responders, but. I hope everything works out for you.
Even though saving the dog was good, I hate people like you, and I'll side with the other dude.
Even though saving the dog was good, I hate people like you, and I'll side with the other dude.
What are you even saying?
What are you even saying?
...He's saying that he hates people like the OP and is siding with the other dude.
Even though saving the dog was good, I hate people like you, and I'll side with the other dude.
So you say that saving the dog was good but you hate people like me because I saved the dog, which was admittedly good in your own words?
Even though saving the dog was good, I hate people like you, and I'll side with the other dude.
what is it with this thread and really odd/dumb posts?
You fucking people
Hey, this is the internet. Nobody knows who you are and nobody listens to well thought out opinions here. Sooner or later someone is going to come along and shit all over your values just because they can.
What are you even saying?
I think what he's getting at is that while potentially saving the dogs life is undeniably a good thing, OP taking it upon himself to destroy personal property and kind of play the part of the hero is where the flaw lies. Most likely, he would have suggested that OP should have navigated the proper channels to save the dog rather than do it himself. This isn't my opinion, this is my interpretation of UncouthJungle's.
what is it with this thread and really odd/dumb posts?
They need to experience a ban hammer atleast once in their forum time.
what is it with this thread and really odd/dumb posts?
A sewerage pipe started leaking into the mains water supply and these blues contracted OIFY
What are you even saying?
He's a cold Estonian, let him go :v:
He's a cold Estonian, let him go :v:
so he is jealous of the dog being hot?
If op is literally getting sued over a window and proves to me the costs and court documents and isn't outrageously expensive ill try and cover it. Edit: Just to clarify op, You should be in the clear. My old job has broken windows in parking lots for leaving <2 year old babies in the car and animals. Police cleared it up and told the owners of the car that it wouldn't hold up in court at all. If you SOMEHOW end up having to foot this bill and send me the court documents for the lawsuit and amount due Then ill try and cover it. (Most passenger windows aren't that expensive). It's the least i can do for someone who's saved an animal and a facepuncher
I know you did the right thing but come to think of it, who's going to pay for that man's window? I guess you should have called the cops so they will be the one to initiate the dog's rescue.

The dog also could have died in the time it takes police to respond.
We started letting dogs into our store because people kept locking their dogs in their cars while they shopped, disgraceful. Good on you man. Great story! Any updates, OP?
Good luck in court, karma is on your side.
Why didn't you just take off running? Bikers are not known for running.
