Here's the poster. [t]https://i.imgur.com/zU9AfIo.jpg[/t] Can't say I'm a fan and feels like a step back from Thor's.
Wakanda could really use some more diversity
Wakanda could really use some more diversity
A secluded xenophobic nation thats extraordinarily hostile to foreigners should be more diverse?
Marvel really goes to try and appeal to black culture with hip hop in Luke Cage and now with Black Panther.
Can we even touch black actors or black culture without accusations of pandering anymore Like yeah, the suits were probably giddy with excitement over the idea of appealing so heavily to one demographic. But you know what? This has happened plenty of times the other way around, too. Don Cheadle couldn't get his Miles Davis movie made until he took in a white co-star. Yet, we don't look at every movie featuring mostly whites as a marketing stunt to appeal to white people, because that'd be ridiculous. Want to be cynical? Well you should, a healthy dose of cynicism is key to understanding the industry. But don't let it negate the artistic value of something, just because you can also see the PR side of it. You describe Luke Cage as if it wasn't even a show, just some shallow, soulless marketing piece. It's a blow to the integrity of its writers, actors, directors and production staff, and based on what, your suspicions of background decisions made by executives? What matters is the final product, and whether it's overwhelmed by politics and pandering, or... just a show. If it's the latter, then extend the courtesy you would towards any show with white leads, and describe it for its worth as a series, not by what race you get to see more often.
why are the giving a side character his own movie? i don't read the comic books but the movie franchise make Black panther look like a guy that just has invincible metal claws and higher dexterity. Hawkeye has a more diverse skillset than the panther
Because Black Panther is actually super legit. One of the few Afro-Futurist, or even black superheroes that is big enough to get any screen time. The only other mentionable ones are Luke Cage and War Machine.

You know what, I'm glad they are giving a black superhero his own movie and the African futurism or whatever you would call it looks cool. On the other hand from the trailer plot looks like another generic superhero movie that just ticks off every box.
You saying i'll never see a Rocket Racer movie?
Sadly no. I wish tho. Or even Doctor Voodoo would be nice.

I think you're looking way too deep into this post. The type of music presented in these trailers (and in Luke Cages trailer / show) represent the target demographic; respecting a certain type of culture / lifestyle that is being portrayed by these characters. Again if you think I'm being cynical or accusing of pandering you greatly misinterpreted my post (so did countless others apparently).
are we not fucking better than this? this is literally 4chan level """ironic""" racism shit, just fuck off
I was calling the trailer racist for literally doing that.

I read it a few times and each time it seemed like you were accusing Marvel of pandering. I think a more accurate wording would be 'Hip Hop is a large part of black culture and so it makes sense for it to show up in two of the predominantly black Marvel properties'. Not making a dig at you, just think that it could have been worded better :v: [editline]16th October 2017[/editline]
I was calling the trailer racist for literally doing that.
I hear Ph.D students talk like that all the time. Being smart doesn't mean you articulate every word, especially in a hurry. And being black has nothing to do with the way he speaks.
are we not fucking better than this? this is literally 4chan level """ironic""" racism shit, just fuck off
we're worse in some aspects.
I was going to reply "What are you guys being so negative? It looks like every other Marvel movie," but then I realized that's kind of the point. I think we all expected something a lot cooler, especially with the uptick in quality for the MCU's stuff lately. I'll judge the movie when I see it, though. I'm sure it'll be another serviceable-to-good MCU movie just like all the others. -snip, totally valid point-
What is your guys' problem?
You know, those two could actually be black and have a problem with the misappropriation of culture. Making sure to have hip-hop playing every time one of your black characters is on the screen is incredibly distasteful. It actually hurts when I watch Luke Cage; despite the fact hip-hop is actually KIND OF a part of his character. It's literally every single scene he's in. Either Nas, Public Enemy, Mos, Mobb... It's always in the backround and it screams hollywood disconnection to me.
Making sure to have hip-hop playing every time one of your black characters is on the screen is incredibly distasteful.
I find it a little odd that they keep playing it with Black Panther. That character never really struck me as one that fit with rap or hip-hop. He's the king of a secluded African nation that doesnt really have any cultural crossover with anybody, so its kinda weird. I dunno, maybe its just me.
I liked Black Panther in civil war but this trailer doesn't really make me want to watch his movie.

I definitely agree.
Superhero movie fatigue seems to be settling in now, not really hyped for Justice League or this movie. Still gonna watch it with some friends though.

For a character that is exclusively African as Black Panther, I'd expect something that reflects the cultures; a mix of dramatic cinematic score, syths/electronic, and traditional African instruments/singing to reflect aspects of the character (say, for instance District 9's soundtrack). At least in this trailer the mix blended fairly well compared to Pacific Rim 2. Granted, it is a trailer and that in no way reflects on the soundtrack of the actual film.
Oh this super hero is an intelligent black king? YOOOO AHUH HOL UP LES GO (User was banned for this post ("Racism / Shitposting" - Nookyava))
i dont see why he was banned for this? those are literally the sounds made in the song at the beginning of the trailer

Looks like it's set slightly before Andy Serkis meets with Ultron or am I wrong there.

Also probably because after the black panther went public in civil war shield or w/e they are now would probably start investigating wokanda
Um Yeah What else do you want them to draw from for a character named Black Panther?
Think for a minute. The character Black Panther was growing up in Wakanda, not the USA. A country as xenophobic and unfriendly to foreigners as a country could be. They look down on other cultures, so how can these people have been influenced by hip hop music, just because they are black? That is kinda racist.

It amazes me how you can take the concept of a super hero and make it this boring. I think it's partly exhaustion of super hero movies and partly passionless writing/production. Very talented artists, no doubt, but at the core it feels overdone and overplayed. I won't pass judgment on something I haven't seen, but I am really not motivated to see this movie based on what they're showing here.
