• TotalBiscuit has a new "WTF is..." video

I would imagine that his fans are aware what kind of personality he has.
The way he responds to people in comments is terrible. Just because he's the content creator and does a lot of work on his videos doesn't mean he can straight up treat his subscribers like shit, block them, and say they will never amount to anything. It's tough to be a YouTube personality, sure, but it takes a lot of effort to be the level of cunt that TB is.
I think the point TB made in the MP3 video was that, you can tell a story without having the player wait like 8 minutes before being able to click on something.
this annoys the piss out of me do people have honestly such little attention spans that if the game makes them shut the fuck up and watch something for 5 minutes without jumping or shooting something than it's a shitty game? Mass Effect must be an awful series, there's too many scenes of Shepard and characters talking, and I can't even shoot during those sequences god that shit's GAAAAAAAAY
I swear, he's like an angsty teenager. Instead of treating his users like shit, he could look at the comments and address them in a video saying something like... "You guys are my subscribers and I appreciate you, but I don't take requests. It takes a lot of time and effort to make the videos I put out, leaving me no time to do request videos." Instead he takes the immature route and singles out someone and treats them like shit.
but in a game like max payne, where the protagonist is very laid back/drunk all the time, it just wouldn't make sense for him to instead of sitting down, walk around stumbling everywhere while passos is talking to him about fabiana
yeah cause Max is a bumbling idiot, he's a wacky drunkard also, Max is only ever shown drinking on downtime, he's never shown to be overly drunk at all during scenes outside his apartment

And ME is a crude example, you're controlling the conversations.
The original Max Payne worked just fine without short film level cutscenes. Man, that's what really drove Half-Life 2. I could jump during cutscenes. God, that was amazing.
this annoys the piss out of me do people have honestly such little attention spans that if the game makes them shut the fuck up and watch something for 5 minutes without jumping or shooting something than it's a shitty game? Mass Effect must be an awful series, there's too many scenes of Shepard and characters talking, and I can't even shoot during those sequences god that shit's GAAAAAAAAY
The whole point is that in those scenes you get to choose what Shepherd says, it isn't just a cut scene which plays on its own without player interaction. from watching his mp video he makes the point that this exactly what developers should be doing, telling a story while still including the player. seems to make a lot of sense to me.
i just said that, why are you disagreeing? i said it would be dumb if you, the player, took control of max as he stumbles around for no reason instead of sitting down like he does in the real game (hes drunk the entire first half of the game btw)
oh, I'm sorry mate! I'm a twat there, I misread you, I thought you were saying Max should be bumbling around. Sorry.
He said he didn't like Max Payne 3 because the cutscenes were too long, and said he wanted "interactivity" in cutscenes. By that he means he wants to run around in circles and stack boxes while he ignores story important dialogue.
Actually he seemed more upset about there being cutcenes of things like walking up stairs and watching a guy run through a sniper scope and not being able to skip them because they're supposedly still loading the next gameplay section than he was about them not being interactive. Although after seeing his cutcene semi-rant video it does seem like he has no idea how he wants devs to handle cutscenes aside from not making them unskippable. To be fair, though, I don't think there is a "best" way of handling an unskippable cutscene.
the original max payne had comic cutscenes that still took away control from the player and made you watch
The comic cutscenes still gave control to the player, as if it were a book. You could go back to re-play a section, skip it, or flip through as you read it. MP3 has unskippable scenes even if you're replaying it.
can you honestly tell me that "interactive cutscenes" (which boils down to jumping up and down) improves gameplay? Man, that's what really drove Half-Life 2. I could jump during cutscenes. God, that was amazing.
But in HL2, you are always in first person, you never lose that connection. That's why HL2's system was good. When I played through HL2, I almost roleplayed because of that never-breaking immersion. With MP3, you could still give the player control by altering his movement and having him drunkly walk around if the player wished. I understand the point of developing a story, but forcing the player to do that seems strong. If the player wishes to get the most out of the story, I think that should be their choice. I think the devs should have developed a way to give some control to the player while still engaging them in the dialogue and plot. Forcing the player to let go of their controller and basically sit back for a few minutes is too much in my opinion.
I agree with him about Max Payne having too many cutscenes, there were some which were him walking down corridors and talking to someone on the radio which could have been done in game without taking the player out of the game.
what a mess of a thread this has become

It could of ended at TB's content with everyone respecting that he doesn't do request videos, he could of made a video saying "You guys are my subscribers and I appreciate you, but I don't take requests. It takes a lot of time and effort to make the videos I put out, leaving me no time to do request videos." but I bet someone or the same guy would have said the same thing claiming they made him and they want him to listen to them. So then what? the fans are allowed to treat him like shit but he isn't back because those are his "fans" and they can do whatever they want? if they were actually his fans they would of left it at he doesn't do request videos and respected that.
what a mess of a thread this has become
I like to think I'm making it worse
"Running a channel of this size" are you fucking kidding me does he even have a job
"Running a channel of this size" are you fucking kidding me does he even have a job
That is his job [editline]9th July 2012[/editline] There is what TB said about that comment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3s--P6X_BLw&feature=player_detailpage#t=4532s
Yeah that's what I thought.
"Running a channel of this size" are you fucking kidding me does he even have a job
What makes you think running Youtube channels isn't his job? There is no time left to have a job when pumping out the amount of high quality content he does. Personally I seriously don't understand why people get their panties in a bunch over TB. He sucks at puzzle games but is honest about it and makes it clear to the viewer that it just doesn't work for him. He's generally very unobservant to what's happening on the screen and is a terrible at many genres. But he's not a bad gamer, and he seriously knows games. He is very good at giving first impressions, you get a very good feel for what kind of game it is and he gives lots of good information and criticism, he looks at games very objectively and is careful to note the viewer when he makes an opinion. His WTF IS videos are great for discovering new games and getting some useful or interesting information on them. And why would anyone give a flying fuck about the comment section on youtube? Yeah maybe he treats some viewers as trash, but so what? At least he's blunt and honest about it and doesn't sugar coat the brutality of his treatment. Of course he could be a lot more professional and not-dickish about it, but at the end of the day that's not what Totalbiscuit is about. He's about being himself, making proper high quality videos he wants to make and making his videos stand on their own two feet, no avoiding criticizing certain titles or developers, everyone gets the same treatment. He's not about being a mass producer sellout man that tries to act like he gives a shit about his viewers and cashing in as much as possible. He wants cash and viewers, but only viewers that can tolerate him as is, I can respect that, and it clearly works.
This guy I used to be subscrined to him then saw him in a video someone has scraped his scalp with a rake to produce such a distant hairline and he still keeps his hair...
yup talking over some game footage is soo much work he deserves respect for his extreme efforts [editline]10th July 2012[/editline] He doubled the playerbase in 16 hours, yes that is quite a feat He is pretty much part of them.

What makes you think running Youtube channels isn't his job? There is no time left to have a job when pumping out the amount of high quality content he does.
No I agree he makes good points and I watch a lot of his stuff but there is no horse high enough for this guy there are tons of other people with let's play channels who aren't pricks and don't act like playing video games and making videos of it is some hot shit. It would be a lot more tolerable if he had any kind of wit when being a jerk but whatever.
No I agree he makes good points and I watch a lot of his stuff but there is no horse high enough for this guy there are tons of other people with let's play channels who aren't pricks and don't act like playing video games and making videos of it is some hot shit. I swear I always get nervous when I see TB talking to devs. I remember his dropping a hint when he was giving a first look at League of Legends's Dominion mode, and he was dropping hints to a dev to put the Dominion gold rate into Summoner's Rift.
And people still watch his videos.
Yeah, I do.
I swear I always get nervous when I see TB talking to devs. I remember his dropping a hint when he was giving a first look at League of Legends's Dominion mode, and he was dropping hints to a dev to put the Dominion gold rate into Summoner's Rift.
yeah that would never happen
He admits that he is awful at puzzle games, and that was the main reason he didn't really like portal 2
he's awful at everything
There's cynical and then there's just being an ignorant dick. I mean cmon, just look at this. The "cynical" thing to do would be to say something like "I won't do one because it'll be shit" not say "YOU'RE NOTHING TO ME, YOU ARE A TINY SPECK AND WILL NEVER AMOUNT TO ANYTHING" If that's the "persona" he's going for then he should change his name to "the aggressively rude brit"
He's kinda right in this one though.
The reddit TB hate witchhunt is over guys, he has allways been like this, why do people suddenly care now?
He's kinda right in this one though.
Doesn't matter if he's right or wrong, he has a fan base of thousands of kids/teens who would love to meet him. They suggest what they think is an awesome game, and he throws insults and makes this person feel like nothing. Yogscast will always be better than him, because even if it's true about how small a subscriber is, they make you feel like a friend and not another number for the demographics.
