I don't trust his opinion because for every review he's spot on with, he has another that is completely ignorantly wrong and even misinformative (See his Max Payne 3, Portal 2 or Deus Ex reviews) [editline]10th July 2012[/editline] I guess if you guys like him that's fine, but I personally can't stand him and find it sort of depressing that whilst people like him flourish by being assholes to their fans, there are other people that work really hard for the few fans they have that will never receive even a fraction of the popularity he has.
How was the Max Payne 3 FIRST IMPRESSION (they are not reviews, stop calling them that) missinformed and ignorant? I couldn't agree more with everything he said in Max Payne. I mean, goddamn, over half of the video wasn't even gameplay although he showed of himself playing the game. it was the one fucking cutscene after the other fucking cutscene and weak small short gunfights and then another fucking cutscene. He gave out lots of options for how it could be avoided and why NO GAME SHOULD EVER HAVE THAT MANY CUTSCENES. It was a completely valid complaint that took part of most of the video, and then he criticized how the prequels did most things better, and why, and even showed us how they did it. There is not wrong with his first impression of Portal 2 just because he doesn't praise it in the sky and suck Valve's balls. It gives a perspective of how P2 is for gamers with a nonfunctional brain for puzzle games like Total Biscuit (it was like looking at iJustine playing). The whole Wheatly thing was him just having a bit of fun, and it also showed the audience the work put behind the dialogue in the game, which is good. I don't know what it was about Deus Ex that you disliked, but if it was the hour long video then that was a special video, it's not what he typically does and personally I couldn't bother watching it for the length, so I dunno what would be wrong with that.
Funny thing is, he's got people going over all the statistics, like what countries likes/dislikes, subs/unsubs, are people liking/disliking this video more than average, or less than average. They use these statistics to determine what people want to see, like recently he made a video about a really old Playstation 2 game, and asked if people would be more interested in videos like this, visiting old titles. Feedback from most of the viewers was a large increase in likes etc. Only feedback he takes from comments are about video quality/sound etc Also regarding the Terraria thing, I would believe he does it mainly because it's enjoyable for him to just sit down, and essentially "have a talk-show" with Jesse Cox, second it's because so many people are requesting it. He mentioned in several videos that people need to stop asking for more Terraria vids, they will be back, but right now he's currently busy with the regular content as well as "special" things like moving to the US, and the E3 coverage, setting off time for GW2 and Planetside 2.
isn't he like 30-ish? that ain't healthy nig
Lots of men can start going bald as soon as they hit their 20's... How is losing your hair unhealthy?
i think the mp3 video was just infuriating because he was singing like a fucking moron during the cutscenes and was just shitting on everything its like dude watch them ffs its not hard to sit still for 2+ minutes
The problem isn't with the cutscenes, but them faking load times to force you into watching them, even on repeated playthroughs.
Ever heard of genetics? I don't blame you if you don't, you're American after all.
At least TB has a successful Youtube channel to give himself a reason to act like a prick what do you have
At least TB has a successful Youtube channel to give himself a reason to act like a prick what do you have
Genetics :v:
Well obviously as RichyZ pointed out he does not.
i think the mp3 video was just infuriating because he was singing like a fucking moron during the cutscenes and was just shitting on everything its like dude watch them ffs its not hard to sit still for 2+ minutes
I'm sorry, but when I want to play a game I actually want to play. Not watch a movie with some playing in-between.
i think the mp3 video was just infuriating because he was singing like a fucking moron during the cutscenes and was just shitting on everything its like dude watch them ffs its not hard to sit still for 2+ minutes
With the loading, he's runs his games off a big SSD. And he said you can't skip them ever, even if you replay the game. I'm checking now. Cutscenes @ 5:15 to 8:30 10:47 to 16:48 He actually starts playing around 4 minutes. Basically it took about 16 minutes before he got into full gameplay without a bunch of cutscenes. 9 minutes of cutscenes, one of them being 6 minutes long without any control. I've seen films that long.
isn't he like 30-ish? that ain't healthy nig
30% lose their hair in their 30's, 40% in their 40's and so on.
I dont understand whats up with all the dumbs for OP, Okay he didnt post the video title in the thread title but video it self I found interesting and informative, In fact I went ahead and played it and liked it a lot.
TB is a pretty sassy cunt, but he makes good videos, some he gets all prissy and petty like the Max Payne 3 video, we get it, the cut-scenes are long and you cant skip them, dont need to hear that for 10 minutes. Or whenever blizzard is brought up he gets really bitter and mad. But other than that he makes good videos without bullshitting. And anyone who says he doesnt do any work, try running a channel of that size and producing videos at the rate he does, I usually see 1-2 new videos every day

And that's not including the points of "gameplay" where you walk 40 feet from one cutscene to another, which there were plenty of. Seriously, I don't even like to watch movies that are that long, and that's when I actually WANT to watch a movie, why the fuck would I want that when I want to play a game instead of watching a movie?
Considering he does it as a full-time job, that's not that impressive.
It kind of is, many channels only produce 2-3 videos per weeks. As much as some people hate the guy I don't understand the idea that he doesn't do much work when its pretty clear that he does.
He did respond pretty politely to being asked if he could do a request. He only really started acting like his namesake when they got offended by it. Also he's human and can be a total idiot at times. Its not like anyone else's brain has spontaneously decided to go "NOPE not working today, its vacation time for me." The Terraria vids are more akin to podcasts than actual gameplay. I mean, some of their videos are of them just chatting while they mine stuff.
He kinda addresses this 'controversy' on this video. @4:11
So the subscribers are mature because they agree with him ? good old circlejerking eh ? that's pathetic. Now i have a legit reason to not like this guy other than an angry comment. Not that i care, or ever cared about him, i've seen what ? two of his videos ?

You'd hang yourself playing almost any of the Metal Gear Solid series if you dislike long cutscenes and cutscene corridors! At least they are skippable, but being pulled out of gameplay to watch a cutscene is hardly the end of the world, and it does make sure that if you are paying attention you will actually get some story progression instead of being distracted. There's no one way to do cutscenes though, it depends on the game as to how they really should be done.
TB is a dick, but he's consistent about it. People shouldn't be surprised.
this isn't a good thing this just means he is consistently a cunt
Considering he does it as a full-time job, that's not that impressive. He makes about 1 hour of footage per day, maybe, which most of the time takes about 10 minutes to edit together. Not to mention he's always talking about how he's part of a "team", so he probably doesn't even edit the videos himself.
You should try making 1 hour of footage of anything. You know, making manuscripts, making footage, recording audio, editing it, rendering it properly, publish it and link it all up and make sure it's all good. There is a lot of work involved that you clearly have no clue about. Working in a team is given to even be able to pump out that much content in such a short timespan. He's constantly keeping himself updated. He has a dedicated Startcraft 2 channel. He does Let's Play's. He does podcasts, interviews and whatnot here and there. Keeps up with game releases and finding out which one to make a first impression of, look up the developers what they've done and what they are known for and finding general info about the game, especially things people might have criticized it for or praised it for. Replies to two emails very often (I would assume somebody else picks them out for him) through a mailbox video where he also would need to look up shit or at least prepare himself for the question. It's a fuckload of work.

Recording, Editing, Collaborations, researching new ideas or relevant news for projects, keeping annotations up to date, planning new content, being available to post news about the channel or being up to date on new releases for "Big Tent" style content. All that is a lot more than people realize.
I don't like the fact about, oh I lost a viewer because I'm an ass? Oh well I'll get a 1000 more in his place. So he basically doesn't give a shit about any of his subscribers, and if you're one of those loyal fans and you step out of line and disagree with him in some way, he'll just go, I don't need you.
If he had just said "I'm sorry, I'm not one to take requests, there are so many things on my plate already, but thank you for asking.", he wouldn't have this issue.

LISTEN TO ME!" And honestly, isn't he kind of right? With a channel of that size, individual subscribers really aren't that important.

This is basically the same thing. He's got so many subscribers and viewers it doesn't make any difference if some of them whine and unsubscribe. If they are unpleased with his products or him then they can just leave, he's not going to adjust to the screams of 10 amongst hundreds of thousands. He's not some desperate fuck that needs every single one viewer. He needs a bunch of them, and a bunch of them he has, and a bunch of them he keeps getting, and his attitude is probably more part of the reason than a hinder.
Oh man you think that's bad? You'd hang yourself playing almost any of the Metal Gear Solid series if you dislike long cutscenes and cutscene corridors! There's no one way to do cutscenes though, it depends on the game as to how they really should be done.
The difference, is you don't get a cutscene in MGS after 2 minutes of gameplay which then proceeds to last 6 minutes. Or Cutscenes for stuff you could actually do while playing. There's this thing called pacing. You gotta keep it flowing so the player feels right playing the game, and doesn't feel rushed nor slowed down. When you get a cutscene that interrupts your game as constantly as MP3, the pacing isn't just slowed down, you just fuck it up completely. You basically watch a game, instead of playing it. And if there's 4 hours of cutscenes, jesus christ, that's a lot of fucking time basically not doing anything, because you dont' do shit while you're watching the MP3 cutscenes, unless you're a braindead moron who needs to concentrate and think really hard to comprehend the complex and intrincate dialogues. If you're going to put as many cutscenes and as long, don't fucking put them one after the other practically, make the sections where you actually get to play longer so you actually get to play for more than 3 minutes. And why must you cutscene everything, even stuff that the player could actually do in gameplay segments. If you get a cutscene of a shootout, why can't you actually play that shootout instead of watching it. MGS had the perfect balance between gameplay segments and cutscenes. Some cutscenes drove for ages, but you didn't mind at all, because previously you actually enjoyed yourself in sweet gameplay segments, long enough to separate the cutscenes. It doesn't cockblock you unlike MP3, where when you're in the heat of the action and totally on fire shooting lads in the balls, you get a ridiculous long cutscene which totally interrupts your enjoyment and makes you sit down without doing anything. It's stupid, games are called games for multiple reasons and not movies. If you want to watch a mvoie, go watch an actual movie. But don't pretend games are movies, because you're getting it totally wrong. And if the main point of a game is the story, there's much better ways to deliver it rather than taking away control from the player for long periods. It's no better than the Call of Duty games everyone bitches about, where the game plays itself for you. I like cutscenes, but there's a point where they get excessive, and MP3 totally goes beyond that point.
