Not to mention, he is SUCH a dick to his fans. [editline]9th July 2012[/editline] And yet, tragically, he also hates anyone who disagrees with him.
I agree with him. He doesn't live to serve one fan, especially a arrogant fucktard like that one.
I mean let's take his "WTF IS" videos. Making manuscripts - N/A, he's doing it live Not true. He sets out conversational topics, goes over several pre-determined topics, and generally ha sa plan for nearly every video. Making footage - however long the video is, let's say it's a long one - 1 hour That's if he's satisfied with the first take. Recording audio - Well he's talking as he plays. Let's say he has to edit the levels for the whole video which takes a little bit of time - 5 minutes sometimes he doe sit as it plays, sometimes he talks over recorded footage.

Which still isn't that much work in comparison to most people who have to work 8 hour jobs that don't involve playing video games.
Playing video-games isn't as much fun when you have to do it on a daily basis, and in the right way, to earn your living. Do you enjoy building birdhouses? Do you think you would enjoy having to build a high-quality bird house every day, and then have to write a thesis on proper birdhouse building to accompany it?
Yes, for most things with a decent amount of editing, the editing is deceptively time consuming, but his videos aren't especially time-consuming because it's recording a video for 30 minutes and then talking over it. Even if he wrote a script, which is what you're suggesting, even though that's pretty tough to write a script for something you ostensibly haven't supposed to have seen yet, that still does not take that much time. I mean let's take his "WTF IS" videos. Making manuscripts - N/A, he's doing it live Making footage - however long the video is, let's say it's a long one - 1 hour Recording audio - Well he's talking as he plays. Let's say he has to edit the levels for the whole video which takes a little bit of time - 5 minutes Editing it - He has to add the title at the start and photoshop together the title graphic - 5 minutes (max) Rendering it properly - Probably the most time consuming element. If his PC was slow, i'd say 5 hours for a long video in 1080p. His PC, as he repeatedly brags about, is rather quick though, so i'd say 2 hours at most, and it's not like he's WORKING through this. He can go and watch coronation street and make a cup of tea during this time. Hell, he could start working on other videos. Publishing it - Uploading is another biggy. Depends on his internet connection, but he apparently has a zippy one of them too, so i'd say about 2 hours max, but again this isn't exactly "WORKING" since he's just waiting for it to happen. In fact, he could make another video and have it ready to go in the time. Linking it - Adding to playlists and such isn't an arduous task. Maybe 2 or 3 minutes to do. I admit that it's time consuming, but I don't get where this takes a lot of work or effort to do. Take his mailbag videos: Same sort of process, but maybe add writing a script, which could take hours and hours, but it seems that TotalBiscuit does this stuff pretty adhoc and he DOES have to paste that text into vegas / premiere and add a fade effect. The editing here could take an extra 10 minutes tops. He has to capture the footage he has in the background too, and he has to record his voice. But the rest of this isn't terribly work-intensive on his part. In fact, looking back over the past month, he hasn't released a single video that consists of more than "TotalBiscuit talks over gameplay footage." I admit it takes a while to upload and render these things and so forth, but I don't get how what he does is particularly "work-intensive." I mean hell, look at Freddiew's work for instance. They produce 1 video a week and if you look at their behind the scenes stuff they work very hard. Look at 5 second films. They produce a daily video that often has quite a lot of intensive editing and writing that takes up a serious amount of time and commitment. I just don't see how what Total Biscuit does is "a fuckload of work." It's about 40 minutes of recording and editing, max, and then up to about 4 hours of waiting. Anyone could do what he does. I'll admit he has a talent for speaking, a good vocabulary and a nice sounding voice, and i'm sure that's what people listen to him for, but he does not put in an extraneous amount of effort.
How do you criticise something you don't even know how is called. Mailbag oh God. You do (not) know TB invests much more work on his videos than what you talked about? For example, his WTF IS... videos, before actually trying the game out, he makes some research regarding the developer, the history, the game and its process and whatnot. Then, he tries the game out first learning how it works and making sure he finishes all tutorials. He also tries previously his recording software works correctly with the game. After that, he proceeds to record himself playing and talking, what would be considered the main bulk. This wouldn't take time, except TB actually puts a lot of effort in everything, and he'll often record himself many times playing the same game, the same part, talking about the same stuff. Because you can't just shit out a video like that at the first try and get it nailed down. He's often not satisfied with the quality of his recordings, and he deletes them and records it all again, until he finally gets a good video where he gets all his points well. And TB isn't satisfied by any kind of decent content. He works to get the best content he can, and he busts his ass out pursuing that. He looks for the best quality, and that requires investing a lot of time. Regarding his Mailbox videos, or like you would call, Mailbag (again, you can't even get the name right, and that's not a typo). The very same thing as I said earlier basically. He just doesn't make his research and when he thinks he's got it all covered, proceed to record himself talking about a topic and call it a day in one go. He does a fucking massive amount of takes, often about the same thing, until he gets his point perfectly right. If he considers a take doesn't reach the high quality he looks for, he'll delete it, and redo it again, and you can notice this if you actually paid attention to his mailboxes. Each reply is divided into many takes. And I didn't even include the Hyper WTF is where he includes interviews, and none of his other content (Why we can't have nice things anymore, Kicksmarter, SC2 content like ISAS2, Vlogs, Esports, Interviews, gaming conventions, etc). You can basically do it the quick way and shit out crappy content, or take your time and reach the sweet level of quality.
If he had just said "I'm sorry, I'm not one to take requests, there are so many things on my plate already, but thank you for asking.", he wouldn't have this issue.
He'd have to have it on a hotkey with the amount of times people request stuff in his comments.
I like how this thread was made to get some attention for smnc which is a great game and you guys turned it into a shit storm before the end of the first page. gg this thread is so offtopic
I know right he wasn't even on the team that discovered the Higgs Boson what a fucking freeloader I bet he's never even been down a coal mine.
I agree with him. He doesn't live to serve one fan, especially a arrogant fucktard like that one.
The viewer was only an arrogant fucktard because total attacked him out of fucking no-where like a giant fucking shithead you should all be unsubscribed to total by now, theres no reason to even give any type of attention to him.
My apologies for presenting a conflicting opinion. [editline]11th July 2012[/editline] Thanks for the straw man argument, RainbowStalin.
Done for comic effect becuase I don't want to get involved in the debate.
Shut up you dumb TB whiteknights, you don't know what's quality content and TB is a pretentious cunt who knows nothing and uploads shit videos. This is quality content, courtesy of Jackald. Mature, original, elaborated, informative, funny, witty, dramatic, and summing it up, magna opera. That's just the latest 4 videos on his channel, behold the greatness! Brace yourself to watch the product of weeks of hard work. TB is a youtube scrub compared to this guy.
Haha holy shit this thread is getting vicious I'm getting out.
The first call out is here.

I'll admit he has a talent for speaking, a good vocabulary and a nice sounding voice, and i'm sure that's what people listen to him for, but he does not put in an extraneous amount of effort.
He doesn't always do it live and most of his first impression videos are made after he has played the game for a while, he seldom jumps into a game without knowing how it works, he usually plays at least the tutorial if it has one and then some more depending on the game. Small casual-like games and puzzles are recorded after the tutorial whilst online games are recorded after some hours of playing. So, he has played the game and gathered up some thoughts, and so he has to make a manuscript for it based on that. It's a pretty obvious thing that if you don't make a manuscript for this shit then you will talk a lot about what's relevant to what you're doing and easily forget a lot of shit and repeat yourself massively and just say extremely uninteresting shit and mumble in your speech and say a lot of umm, uhh, ahhh. But yes, when doing it live he doesn't have a finished manuscript which is easily heard in his WTF is Jamestown video. Making footage is usually recording hours of gameplay and then cut out the good stuff and then talk over it. If he games and commentates live, then of course it's more or less as long as the time he plays, which puts extra stress on having some proper arguments and topics put up in a manuscript beforehand, otherwise you just won't be able to talk about everything that needs to be talked about because you'll get lost in the action and you will have to edit the video a lot to remove blabber and catch-up sounds like aahhh... and uhh... Editing depends on the type again, but he does more than just chop the video and render. Sometimes it needs to be cropped because of recording incompatibilities (when he has to fraps his whole desktop because it has to run in window mode and won't let itself record), he usually plays around with sound levels to bring in important speech and sounds from the game. Then generally chopping up video to seperate option screen talk to gameplay and sometimes chopping off to the end of a match or similar to show off how a match will end in multiplayer games, like he did in Smite. No, it's not super intensive, but it requires about as much effort as any Vlog-like video that cuts off every end of a sentence and chops in the start of a new one, which requires a moderate chunk of work for what seems like no work at all. Rendering it properly means having it actually not bork itself up. But he of course has a preset for this by now, should have at least. But goddamn, those kind of things can fuck up pretty easily. With publishing it I kinda group that together with linking, tagging, annotating, description writing and so on. It takes a lot of work and effort to do all the research beforehand making the videos, you know, planning, scripting, background of the devs, feedback by the community on the title and so on. He doesn't just go "Smite looks cool, let's do that *downloads game* *boots up FRAPS/DXTORY* *plays game whilst recording and talking* *Edits video and publishes it* *gains cash*". Freddiew only releases one video a week. The amount of work TB does during a week is more or less comparable to Freddiew's work during a week, especially if you consider the fact that TB has a wife and son and neither of Freddie nor Brandon are married. I am however not implying that the planning and effort required for Freddiew's videos aren't more intense and requires more work, but the amount of time spent on the process of making videos is pretty much equal. 5 Secondfilms doesn't make any edit-heavy videos. They change colours or move pictures around the screen. At best they do some sloppy greenscreen. Also most of their ideas seems to be pretty loose, if you've watched any of their behind the scenes videos you see that they just say lots of random things and end up picking the one they thought was the funniest. Extremely present in the outtakes for "More Dignified Ladies". I give them mad props for ideas though. And God do I love that channel. Also TB clearly dedicates a lot more time than 5SF does, 5SF knows what they'll film for the week beforehand (which is also extremely present in their comments of the week video "6/4 - 6/8" where Ben has parts of his devil makeup on after removal for a video that was uploaded 4 days later. And shooting their videos is easily done in 1-2 hours since they don't use a lot of lightning setup for the most part, nor do they have long sequences of anything and they generally have few in the video. TB puts in pretty much just as much effort as anyone else.
I think it's in poor taste to go into his channel to bring up examples. Just because he doesn't post or produce stuff like TB doesn't make his opinion incorrect. I'm defending TB, but I don't think that's fair.
"There is no greater compliment than to be misquoted" And, forgive my disbelief, but when did he say he works that hard on the videos? Because I refuse to believe that he spends more than 3 hours at most recording his videos. Besides which, like I said, many people would kill to be in his position, and yet he acts like the most monumental cunt. Just take a gander at his twitter feed. Anyone who starts any sort of discussion with an opposing opinion to him is attacked and insulted by TotalBiscuit in a way that makes him seem like some sort of angsty teenager.
He's said it in various Vlogs and Mailboxes, do your research. How does he act like a monumental cunt, he takes his videos as actual job, doesn't go around bragging about it, and works hard on them. And he tells people to essentially fuck off when they're morons and twats, and they deserve it. TB is a nice guy if you aren't a complete dumbass. Radiomonster lacks any reading comprehension skills, either that or he's got some sweet imagination. Some random twat throws shit at TB, THEN he tells him to fuck off. He deserves it. And he's honest about it.

His youtube channel and this discussion are completely irrelevant to each other. You're just acting like a fucking douchebag.
I'm tempted to link TB to this so he can call me a cunt on twitter :v:
Aye, it's a douche thing to do what I did, but not only have I, but other people, brought up points and justified them, people keep ignoring them, and keep saying the same ignorant stuff. If they bothered with this kind of stuff they would find out, but they clearly don't, and proceed to shit on it regardless.
I have been subscribed to TB for the past 2ish years and this is the first time I have thought about what kind of personality he has. Since I saw those comments, it feels like he doesnt give fucks about his viewers. I mean, it's like 'I don't care. You are a soul-less number on a chart. I will replace you in 2 seconds.' Which in a sense is true. One individual leaving his channel wont affect his income in any way, but it makes me wonder what he really thinks of his fan base.

He's only ever a dick to people who act like idiots.

Especially the fanboys. He probably gets that very same message hundreds of times every day, through comments, emails and Twitter. I can understand why he would snap. I'm not saying he did the right thing acting like that towards that guy, but I can understand why he did it.
He hates them. He's pretty open about it, he can't stand fans. I think Baconator got more than he bargained for with posting this video.
TB is a volatile topic on FP
My apologies for presenting a conflicting opinion.
You don't seem to be very tolerant of conflicting opinions yourself if your title is anything to go by.
- TB's videos do not require as much effort as people think, in my opinion, and I have provided reasons why I think this - TB is incredibly rude towards people and just comes across as an unpleasant person to interact with, at least in my experiences seeing his interactions with his fans. There's no need to resort to personal attacks, gnisasas, and i apologize if my previous walls of texts seemed a bit antagonistic.
Well it's not actually something you can have an opinion about. Either they require much effort or they don't. With all the background stuff he does before making a video it definitely does require a lot of effort. And again, the point is that he makes A LOT of those video during a week. He makes more than one video per day on average, and that takes a lot of time and effort even if the effort and time put into one video alone isn't super amazing, the time he spends during a week is. He's rude against people that are rude to him or ignore what he's told them time and again.
