Maybe before I get a blacktop I might try installing some Keihin FCR carbs or MSR carbs on the old motor. Most likely it'll be which ever I can get a good deal on, newer ones can run up to 1000$ and up! Yikes! but i'm sure I can find a set for a good price. 3:35 They're both bike carbs so it'll be interesting for sure. Also they both use a sort of trap door valve system as opposed to butterfly valves, which produces less turbulence. This'll be good experience with side draft carbs -edit- Looks pretty wild! Or maybe I should start with some basic webbers till i have a good knowledge of carbs in the first place I always dream too big and jump the gun
why would you go carbs if you get a legit 86?
I'm 18 today!
Relivent becuase this. When I turned 18 i was like meh this is cool and what not, I can buy cigs and lottery tickets now. But when you can fucking make the best BLT sandwich in the world for your self, that's a milestone. Also now you can pound and ass you like, and get pounded.
our 1998 ford escort got a new oil filter after leaking out every time we put oil in (no new filter or oil change for like 6+ years), car now runs fine, fast forward 6 hours when we're driving to work, we hear a very feint knocking wood pecker like sound (I couldn't hear it when my brother pointed it out), get about halfway to work, hear a grinding sound like something came loose and is dragging on the road. We pull over to look at what it is, can't find anything sitting on the road anywhere, what I think was green antifreeze (it was dark) is leaking from the center of it. Wait a couple hours for a ride to get there, start car to move it to try to avoid being impounded (we were in front of a gate) the car makes a sound like rocks in a washing machine. Mechanic Facepunch, what do you think my problem is (pistons?)
Answer me you fucks. Also a revision to what the engine sounds like: It sounds like a lawnmower hitting rocks if that helps you guys diagnose it.
why would you go carbs if you get a legit 86?
The old engine will be a 4ac probably, so I may as well lightly tune the old engine in case the blacktop dies. That and learning to work on carbs will be a good experience. But like I said I may want to go with some basic mikunis before I go balls deep in some motorcycle carb -edit- I also want to open my own used car dealership someday, so being able to work on any car is something I need to be able to do.
Answer me you fucks. Also a revision to what the engine sounds like: It sounds like a lawnmower hitting rocks if that helps you guys diagnose it.
That's not how we ask politely. ;3
Answer me you fucks. Also a revision to what the engine sounds like: It sounds like a lawnmower hitting rocks if that helps you guys diagnose it.
because degrading people and demanding an answer is the sure way to get one.

Grandmother's car towed and dropped off at Pep Boys for brake repair/rotor replacement and timing belt quote. It only took 100 fucking days. [editline]29th December 2012[/editline] ps towing it took 45 minutes, and 15 to finalize everything with the paperwork inside Pep Boys.
Good job, Pininfarina. Look at those sleek lines, that roof definitely look so good on the car. 10/10 would barf again.
Good god Hale or just snow?
you talking about the first image? someone hit her, the car has been in 5+ "accidents" (someone hit the car while parked, or, in 1 case, a semi truck hit the car and pushed it 6 feet and drove away...I believe that one is responsible for the fender in the second image) [editline]29th December 2012[/editline] and every single time my poor grandmother has just said "let's split the cost of the repair" instead of using insurance..

This can be done by using a shop light to refract light of the body panel, where you see distortion there is a dent. Use a dry erase marker to mark dots for small point dents or a circle for larger areas. Then I would research types of dent removal and apply them until all the dents are gone. -edit- and don't forget to check your work when you're done. --edit-- Try researching paintless dent removal (PDR) for the small stuff Here's the ehow : http://www.ehow.com/way_5292010_paintless-dent-repair-techniques.html theres some basic info there further reading : http://editorial.autos.msn.com/article.aspx?cp-documentid=434597
total it. you would get more money for it parted out than how it sits now.
really, just from that body damage? it only has 40k miles
[editline]29th December 2012[/editline]
really, just from that body damage? it only has 40k miles
And driven 1 miles every day. Whole exhaust system is probably rusted out, not to mention the milk that is probably in the oil.
More detailed pic's, more detailed info. "5+ accidents" make me say total it. Plus if it has been poorly maintained no telling on how long till it throws its timing belt. If I'm correct there suppose to be changed every 6 years or 60k miles (factory belt is a cunt)... Now throw in the factor of cold weather, and minimal maintenance and you you now have a cluster fuck. There are great cars non the less, shits expensive for em and some times when people abuse them and let them sit/ not properly maintaining them there not worth bringing back to life or back to almost perfect condition. [sp]I wish I never got my rabbit due to this.[/sp]
Insurance is a fucked up business

Oil will likely be replaced when the timing belt is done. [editline]29th December 2012[/editline]
More detailed pic's, more detailed info. Most old people take HORRIBLE care of their cars, and against what most people think, less miles is not always better. Going for short trips is one of the ABSOLUTE worst things you can do to a car. Don't even bother replacing the timing belt. Just take it to a car wash and then list it on craigslist and take the first offer you get.

The issue is that my mom's boyfriend had a son who went through a ton of used cars and he continues to tell me shit like..
"You should have seen the cars my son had to drive" "That's CRAZY low mileage on that car" "I just talked to my friend who owns a shop and he said you'd be INSANE to not use that car" "Buying a used car is 'buyer beware' - anything they don't tell you will screw you over"
and those are all wonderful excuses that my mom spits out at me since she assumes his word == 100% correct truth
Timing belt and replacing the rotors can be $1,500+. Think about them apples.
Rotors? As in brake rotors? Couldn't be more than $100, and that's not even shopping around. (DIY) [editline]29th December 2012[/editline] No comment on the timing belt though.
Timing belt is priority. If that thing snaps while being started or being ran, (like my friend's Subaru) you're looking at a new engine/internals buddy. The body panels are easy to fix. Looks like a fender and rear fender. You can probably get them from the yard. But imo just change the brakes, sell it. Let the buyer fix the belt. Raining today. Did drifts during work break. Scared me because GF's s13 sits like a lifted truck. Too much body roll/sway. But it was fun sliding around :)
