It's auto. Never learned how to drive a stick.
Dude, you bought an automatic mini? That defeats the whole point of buying a mini.
My co-worker never drove stick and drove a manual 350 right off the lot, Never had an issue. People need to stop fighting it or atleast get semi-auto or paddleshifters. By the way planning to change rims to accord from steelies to OEM or closest style to OEM as possible. Then add the factory spoiler. In the spring It's going to the body shop for two new bumpers, rust removal on the body and fresh paint job. Feb is tear apart engine month for it. New timing belt, plugs, oil, maybe water pump since we are taking the belt off anyway. Power steering as well. Basically the most expensive maintenance time for the accord.
I still don't understand why americans refuse to buy manuals because "they never learned it" It takes 2 fucking minutes to learn how to drive a manual
I still don't understand why americans refuse to buy manuals because "they never learned it" It takes 2 fucking minutes to learn how to drive a manual
No it takes two fucking minutes to get the concept of driving a manual. It takes a month to learn to drive it "properly". aka Starting on hills. And my opinion is why america has less stick's is because most of those people look at a vehicle as a form of transportation and simply don't want to use it in heavy traffic.
Just buy a car already and stick to it like a man! You went from AE86 to Euros in a heartbeat
I've really just decided on newer cars 1990+
:( oh well, then my mercedes knowledge won't do a lot of help.
I still don't understand why americans refuse to buy manuals because "they never learned it" It takes 2 fucking minutes to learn how to drive a manual
I don't get why people want others to drive manuals, who really cares what transmission a person has in their car?
Manual -> Automatic Sports Car -> Economy Car Its all about the experience of a manual. In this day in age there's really no need for manuals outside of racing. But there's really no need for sports cars either. Its just a preference. [editline]23rd January 2013[/editline] Also, with the way people drive these days, I don't want a manual transmission to distract them even more than they already are.
I like my autotragics and I'll keep them. I know how to drive manual, but I honestly preffer driving casually to go buy my food and life things than the 5% of time where i want to speed, and to me, 280foot pounds of torque are enough to stick me in the seat of my car, manual or not, I get a smile on my face, and don't get to shift always in stop and go traffic. But I agree that manual is more fun, while I don't personally require it to have fun driving. And I have paddleshifters anyways.
pfft, paddleshifters.
Tiptronic is lame, I've driven many cars with paddle shifters and it seriously feels nothing like driving a manual transmission. It's not about shifting gears, it's about the added element of a clutch and the abilities that come with knowing how to use it.
decided to finally buy my tabs for the tuck.. only two months expired. $50 man. Damn.
pfft, paddleshifters.
More of a novelty than anything, I've never used them so far, stick in in Drive and do my stuff.

Like my grandfather has weak legs after cancer and then later in life triple bypass and using muscles from his upper legs for the surgery. He struggles to push down the E-Brake on his grand prix. Automatic is best suited for him. My grandmother used to drive manual but once again, shes gotten alot older both in there middle 80's. Now everyone i know who can get a manual does, Right now I want a manual car as bad as possible but right now I can't afford and was graciously given my automatic accord which I've been working kinks out slowly and improving it. The other part is some cars I want only came in automatic. It doesn't make a car bad, just not as fun as it could be.

I understand the necessity for automatic transmissions, but I can't help but feel that it's likely to make a driver less attentive and more prone to distraction as they have the ability to take both hands away from what they're doing. I have a friend that consistently eats while driving and uses his knee to keep the wheel straight. I can't make him stop, but I keep warning him that soon enough he's going to hit a pothole or another obstacle and lose control of the vehicle. I see this DAILY while driving; people eating, talking on the phone, texting, or putting on their makeup while driving an automatic simply because they can. This issue would be greatly diminished were people required to pay attention and use both hands everytime they take off from an intersection.
It's not really about automatic or not here, but more about people stupidity.

I've seen it.

Your experience is very limited, then. I rarely see anyone driving automatics (In my circle of knowledge) that don't pay attention to the road. The only persons I see doing that are strangers, often girls(Applying lipstick or other crap to their face), in small cars(Or SUV, for some reasons), which is hilariously dangerous. But Manual or automatic, the kind of person you are, will define how you drive and how you pay attention to the road.

In technicality you have agreed with me; it's the type of person that goes for a manual that's generally more attentive.
I CHOOSE to go for Autotragics and yet I'm sure I pay as much attention to the road as you do with your manual. And I still have a love for driving. People that go for manual aren't more attentive than others, it all goes with what you want of your car and what you expect to do with it. You can be the most attentive person in the world and go with and automatic, and you can be the biggest douchebag that texts and lift in his car that goes for a mad jdm tyde manual.

Nowhere did I disagree with you.
I'm saying that you disagree with me, I'm just reading(Yes) your posts, and you plain out say that people with manual are usually more attentive, which I whole heartily disagree with. Maybe you are, maybe a lot on this sub forum are, but that's just because as enthusiast, we care about our machines(And usually life, yes?). And that, unrelated to the gearbox in the car.
Once I get into 3rd gear my diesel car has so much grunt at the low end and some pull higher up that it covers basically all speeds that you encounter in city driving. In stop-start traffic I'm not constantly changing gear. I either make some distance from the car in front, stick in 2nd and let it idle along (About 9 MPH in my car on level ground) or if it's really slow, leave it in first and just lift the clutch to edge forward. The difference is minimal though, I don't even realise I'm changing gears. It's all automatic in a way :v: The only Auto I've driven was an old Volvo 740 GLE so modern boxes are almost certainly better than that. But I feel like I have more precise control in a manual, like with proper clutch control I can move the car 1 centimeter. On UK roads it does help, because no road is designed right.

Most people that CHOOSE to drive a manual are a bit of an enthusiast. I never said that an enthusiast WOULDN'T drive an auto (my bud has a 335d that only comes in auto and it's a sick car, he autox's every month, however, the UK version is a 6-speed manual).
Any of you guys ever done a track day before? I've been wanting to do one ever since i started driving but i don't even know where to start looking.
Huh I found a shop nearby that can turn my car into right hand drive for about $1000; should I do it?
Any of you guys ever done a track day before? I've been wanting to do one ever since i started driving but i don't even know where to start looking.
Well, for a track day, you should look for a track. Tracks are a great place to start looking. Have you considered looking for racetracks in your area and looking them up online?
