please only do this while taking the test. I fucking hate it when people can't brake smooth. sometimes I brake to a point that I don't feel the car stop - by baking off the brake as you slow down
Yeah people who brake abruptly really frustrate me. I'm actually really paranoid about it, I like to hang several car lengths behind people (and a little more, compared to others) when doing like 50+. But thanks, I'll make sure to brake "semi-abruptly" on the test, I always try to make it as smooth as possible when driving normally.
Also also, one thing my driving instructor said, is to stop the car semi-abruptly at stops, do not stop for comfort. Stop so both you and the DMV person can feel the stop.
Over here they teach you to get to a stop as slow as possible (engine braking from far away) so you won't possibly have to stop at all, because economic driving is part of the license here

If your foot is on the brake as much as it was when you started braking then the car is going to jerk back once you stop.

my yonkers driving instructor told me to go when he didnt even his seatbelt on and got mad when i didn't, Already had a feeling the way this test was going to go and apparently what failed me on that test was not keeping to the right enough on a street that only fits one car in the middle but is two way and parking on both sides. So i took it in mt vernon and passed it flying colors, Guy asked me to do three point turn, parallel park and drive on some local roads and one red light road. Same thing happened in this test where the road was only big enough for 1 car but was 2 way and parking on both sides told me "When roads like this come along, doesnt matter about keeping to the right imo"
I'm buying my first car this week. Paying $700 to my girlfriend's dad for a 1993 325i. No rust, 110k miles, good maintenance.
Ehh. Test drove it yesterday, certainly not as good as he made it originally sound. He had told me that all it needed was the back tire pumped up (had a slow leak) and it needed new shocks. It's a bit more than that actually. The battery is pretty much dead, so I gotta get a new one of that, and it needs wheel bearings. So instead of paying him for the car when I looked at it, I decided to hang onto the money and told him I'd think about it. I'm likely going to talk him down the price a little bit. He said he'd lower the price if I found anything else wrong with it aside from what he had told me. I'll probably offer him 400 or 500 tops.
Always, always, ALWAYS put on your seat belt. IT SHOULD BE THE FIRST THING YOU DO WITH THE DRIVING INSTRUCTOR. DO NOT START THE CAR BEFORE PUTTING ON YOUR SEAT BELT. They can, and will fail you. No, the DMV person may not put on their seat belt, TELL THEM TO PUT IT ON, you may fail if you don't.
Just saw a picture featuring inboard brakes : [t]http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/22086_471067466263459_957462095_n.jpg[/t] Typically used in F1 cars, this reduces the unstrung weight on each wheel by mounting the brakes directly on the axles going to the wheels. However, as one could imagine, the disadvantages are complexity , cooling, and servicing. Extensive air ducting would be needed to cool the breaks sufficiently; A custom undriven wheel system would need to be developed; and maintaining the brakes would require a lot of work! Maybe once I'm a pro it might be something to consider for unorthodox tuning. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inboard_brake *fix'd*

When I did my test, there was no parallel parking. The entire test consisted of "Alright, lights and wipers," and then I pulled out, drove for about three miles on smaller backroads, exited onto the highway, merged over into the center turn lane, and then pulled back into a parking spot in the lot. The only thing I got docked on was making too wide a turn when pulling back into the lot. Everything else was fine, and I got my license that day.
Anyone have experience with EBC brake pads, thinking of getting a set of reds for front and rear.
I wish I had a DIY friend relativly close to my location so I could DIY on cars while chlling with a buddy. hard life of having mechanical illiterate friends
I like my friend for that, we're both mechanically inclined and both have 3800 powered cars with blowers :v: Took a picture with said friend today, would have taken one with my other Grand prix, but had it towed last week at my mech place because starter borken. Last night we got a ton of freezing rain, went out this morning to go to school... and, THANK YOU RAIN-X GODS. Not a damn piece of ice on my vehicle.
Anyone have experience with EBC brake pads, thinking of getting a set of reds for front and rear.
EBC is really good from what I hear. I personally went with Hawk PC's I think and I absolutely love them, they won't fade any in any situation which occurs on the street. I'd think you'd have to do a full stop from 140 to get them to fade out a good bit like the brakes the car had did if I mashed the brakes down from 70-80... There's no reason to be going more than 120 and I'll tell you they don't even fade a whole lot from that down to like 20-30. I'd also suggest going with some cheap blanks for rotors if you're on any sort of budget, the only functional purpose of drilled/slotted rotors is basically to prevent brake fade through reducing the material which the pad contacts. My opinion and belief is that this would only ruin stopping power, they look cool though. I'd also suggest grabbing some stainless steel brake lines, if you're looking for a brake upgrade. They changed the feel of the pedal in my Integra quite nicely.
Anyone ever reangle their rear axle? Apparently I need to do it or else my truck will keep dropping its driveshaft
Brake lines are a bit expensive and I am not looking forward to bleeding a brake system, but my pads in the back are almost gone and my front ones squeak. Instead of going with 30 dollar pads I want to get something that will give me some better power.
Welp, that's the last time I talk about weed in this forum. Something tells me you guys aren't too crazy about that kinda stuff :v:
It's legal here.
