Stay away from that TBI 350 -- It's junk. You need a special intake manifold to swap them to carb and you'd have to completely change the heads to change to proper SFI/MPFI. The TBI had injectors that barely gave the engine any fuel, even with a set of TBI 454 injectors you're getting less cc per cylinder than stock tuned-port. Not to mention the TBI was incredibly well known for catching fire (It is the successor and/or sister injection system to Crossfire injection, the notorious Corvette firebug).

I drive a truck with a TBI 350 and this man speaks the truth. No fires yet, but my air filter always reeks of gas. They're weak ass motors, barely 200 hp/300lb ft. I've looked into it and you pretty much have to replace the whole motor to get much more out of it. :v:

All of my want.
welp, as fate would have it tomorrow morning miraculously became semi-open so i'm gonna be renting a car carrier and flying down to the guy's house tomorrow morning
apparently, he "got it running" so that should help make getting it on the car carrier a bit easier but really i'm still going to go over everything after getting it back to the house.. realistically it has been sitting for who knows how long and who knows how long it has been since an oil change and valve adjustment so that's first on the list
then comes timing it which means i'll probably have to buy another gaddam timing light since the first one shit the bed after a month and a half.. i think it may be part my fault because one of the wires looks a little burnt which may be from touching my exhaust or something like that
here's to hoping it's half as good as it seems to be. i mean, worst case it'll be $500 (i'm going to try for $400 really) and i'll get some bits and pieces, maybe pull the engine and try to re-sell it to get most of my money back but best case it'll be all i hope it is and i'll have a second bug/third car to waste all my money on. besides, it'll be a good thing too because my parents both LOVE these cars, my dad had a few and getting rid of the last one really broke his heart - insulation fell off in the engine bay, blocked the fan and wreaked havoc on the heads (which he had already replaced a couple times..)
the pans look a little eh and i have no idea what condition the heater channels are in but the guy says it's decent overall as far as rust is concerned. realistically, as long as there's no gaping holes and the pans are decent overall i'm just not going to worry about it. maybe wire wheel them and hit them with some anti-rust shit to help slow the progression but beyond that, in New England especially, your best bet if you don't intend to do a full on body off resto is to just ride the pans/channels until they finally rot completely through and by then the front frame rails will probably be in pretty sad condition (at least now that the car is 40+ years old)
(oh god these cars are going to be the end of me)
edit:
jeez, i ramble a lot. i don't realize just how much silly, superfluous shit i type until i hit submit
This is one of the meanest sounding diesels I've ever heard.

[editline]17th October 2012[/editline]
To-do list for my car:
get a new o2 sensor(s) so that god damn service engine light fucks off
get new rims
get a sri intake
get an aftermarket cat-back exhaust
replace the cat converter and camshaft sensor (apparently these are responsible for 90% of altimas breaking down/driving shittily)
there go my next 5-6 paychecks :v:

Street/sport coilovers so you can lower the sucker.
Nah, im not gonna lower it. It's p. low for a stock car, my undercarriage gets its shit fucked up every time i go more than 15-20 mph over a speed bump/dip

I somehow haven't managed to bot-
NO IM NOT GOING TO SAY IT I REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE CURB

Why would you hit a speed bump at 15-20 in a car!?!
oops, got a bit lazy writing that sentence lol. I go 15-20 on dips, on bumps i go about 5-10
There is a parking lot shortcut to my friends house
He goes through it every day on the way home from anywhere
He hits the speedbumps going about 40 mph
though that's in a pickup truck.
i go over speedbumps at 25-30 in my benz
i dont give a fuckkkkkkkkkkk
pickup trucks have no idea what a speedbump is
I think it would be fun going 30+ mph over speed bumps, but my oil pan probably would not like that
my car already scrapes enough stuff, but it's only usually when backing out of a driveway and not going up a driveway for whatever reason
You guys mean the ones like on an actual street right? I would never think about hitting the ones like in parking lots at more than like stopping for them..
The ones which they place in the street to slow traffic are a challenge to see how fast you can hit them though. :v:
I gotta be careful when parking in lots with parking curbs. My bumper scrapes along the top of the curb if I go too far, doesn't help that my car is long as hell so I don't get a lot of room for being careful
glitch the other day I saw an altima with a really shitty spoiler bolted to the trunk and I thought of u
the only time i've scratched my bumper was when i went into a friend's driveway and the concrete was sticking up in the middle and it broke my bumper

These kind of speed bumps are a joke. I can fly over them at like 35-40 mph no problem as long as you aim the car right.
They put speed bumps in on my street because nobody obeyed the 40km/h limit and people would street race at night. They also lowered the limit to 30. That's the speed I take the bumps at in the Marquis, and I've done it at 50 too, barely feel it.
Honestly, the mentality that "speed kills so make everything slower" is so dumb, everyone goes 10 over already because shit's too slow, lowering the limits would just piss people the fuck off even more, and they'd go 20 over instead of 10. Unfortunately the city coroner is a crony of the last government who had a war on cars going on, wherein they tried to piss drivers off in the city so much that they wouldn't drive. Most of those idiots are thankfully gone now, but the coroner released a report about pedestrian deaths by cars and decided we need lower limits, despite the real cause of pedestrian deaths by cars being idiots j-walking at rush hour, and most deaths occur at rush hour, when traffic is at its slowest. But the coroner is a bureaucrat with an agenda that he will try and push, and hopefully the politicians have the sense to ignore his nonsense, but there are some idiots...
