People might not know this, but such is life of Honda owners. It just keeps happening sicknasty.
I hate german winter tire laws, my sergeant's wont let me drive until I change my tires and the local DIY shop says the tire tools would chew up low profile tires. Now I have to bring my car to a shop and pay to have it worked on. I love old underfunded army programs.
Everyone at my job either has a beemer of american muscle. So last night all 10 of us literally rolled out onto the highway all together. Pack of 10 cars doing 90-100mph straight down 87. edit: could even have been considered pack style nascar racing
lotsa text
Yeah I did some googling and read about the supers having "highway jitters" but I couldn't tell if it was just one person with the experience or not. A super would probably be bad for my first car (especially when I have no tools) then right? I took a look on craigslist in the nearby 50 cities and unless I'm missing something, searching for "beetle +1970" all of the way up to 1974 seems to really only find supers :(
Aww yee, theory test for driving license done! All I got left now is my birthday (which is in march) and to drive 2 more hours with my teacher.
Quick question because I'm curious: As a young driver in the USA or Canada, how much do you pay for insurance?

I only know the basic knowledge (full oil change, valve-cleaning / timing, replacing gauges and sensors, etc). I expect to learn stuff with time if anything breaks on it because frankly, even an old Mercedes that was for it's time quite overengineered is still not that hard to work on. I did buy one that had already all the stuff done to it, so I hopefully won't run into anything just yet but basic reapairs shouldn't be hard - I couldn't expect a Beetle to be that hard to maintain considering it's a pretty simple car overall, at least compared to an S-Class.
Do you think this is decent http://dayton.craigslist.org/cto/3336604370.html It seems a bit high considering 200k miles but everything else pretty much fits what I'm looking for and theres a rebuilt tranny+timing belt involved. Rust doesn't seem that bad for a 200k mile car in ohio either though I'll obviously have to look under the car to see if it's not eating at the frame. Still I probably could talk it down to at least 2800-3000 Just don't want to overpay if I don't need to. Looking mostly for fuel efficent and reliable (so I don't have to spend 1000-2000 within the first two years of owning it fixing something)

Even in a well maintained car like that, with 200k+ miles on it, something's bound to break (although it most likely won't be something terribly bad, since the car's been taken care of).
I drove over a bump and suddenly my car sounded like this: no dampers at all, it was loud as hell :v:
You probably got a busted exhaust connection.
That happened to a friend of mine just a few days ago. His pipe broke right behind the manifold so dad welded it together quickly as a temporary solution so me and my friend will probably go exhaust-scavenging on the local junkyard soon :v:
Happened to my fathers car. Shit was so cash because the sound made people look like there was a sports car flying by :v:

i saw a beetle in it's natural habitat today aka next to the road, the driver trying to fix it

They're common..?
but it's literally for every 10 beetles, 1 is a standard
imo you could get a much better condition honda for 3k, if i were you i would just keep looking
yeah a standard manual civic with 200k on the odo is not worth $3100 i don't care what they've done to it, it just isn't worth it
Mine's got independent rear suspension and isn't a super beetle. I just can't handle the way they look. They got a fat front too.
yea, there were standard beetles with IRS but it's way more common to have swing axle rear instead of CV joint/IRS rear on a standard, what with standards being more common before 68 and supers being more common after 68
Yeah I did some googling and read about the supers having "highway jitters" but I couldn't tell if it was just one person with the experience or not. the boss let me drive the company car to get the pizza for the store meeting. it was a brand new rental Chevy Cruze (our other 2 cars both got hit within a week). i had no idea how to work to keyless starter, so i felt stupid having to walk back in to ask. in comparison to my xterra, i felt like i was driving a golf-cart. i was fucking around with the triptonics the whole time. tl;dr being paid to drive cars is fucking awesome, especially when they're new
isn't cruze some korean POS

Does anyone have a cheap DIY tire tree idea? I have around 4 sets of wheels and tires that I want to stack to save space. Thinking of pluming pipe (for easy twistty removal) and some weld'n for the hanger part.
so some dick head today was riding my ass cause none of us wanted to do 30 cause we knew there was a cop somewhere around. The second a turning lane opened he jumped into it to get past me, zoops by and guess what cop at light lol'd so hard
