If it were Vacuum driven, would it work with just the ignition turned on, but the engine not running?
the engine needs to be running to create a vacuum
That's what I thought, it's not vacuum driven. It used to work without the motor running. [editline]1st November 2012[/editline] Nevermind. http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forum/general-discussion/technical-maintenance/350554-88-silverado-4x4-no-defrost.html [editline]1st November 2012[/editline] Might try this too, as I pulled out the climate control box when I put my stereo in.
Believe it or not it is commonly the control unit switch on the dash. Remove the instrument bezel (4 torx screws). Remove the climate control switch. It has a multi-pronged connector. Now clean the contacts with an eraser so that they are bright and shiny. Reassemble, and everything will work.
fuck torx screws, those things are annoying.
EVERYTHING in the cab is torx [editline]1st November 2012[/editline] Except the screws that were holding the OEM stereo up underneath the dash.
i have a love/hate relationship with torx.. even old as fuck, corroded, frozen torx screws never seem to strip but old flat or phillips heads always strip out and leave you with a screw with no way to get it out and then you go buy one of those POS easy-outs and that stupid thing breaks and now you're like "fuck, i just wasted $10 on that stupid shit and i still can't get the screw out" so then you try to drill it out and end up breaking like 5 fucking drill bits before the shank finally separates from the head. the hate part comes in 'cause they're a bitch to line up properly when you're doing the stand on your head dance trying to undo a screw facing the floor that has about a half inch of clearance between the head and the floor because there's a bunch of shit in the plastic duct under the dash and you want to get it out, bleh. also the stupid resistor used to control fan speeds that is in the duct in front of the blower that conveniently burns out one speed at a time, stupid fucking thing. on the topic of shit that sucks, i really need to get a set of ratcheting box end wrenches because there are way too many screws, nuts and bolts in the perfect position to have to be removed with a wrench and then they're in the perfect position that you can only get about a quarter of a turn before having to move the wrench back so now it takes like 20 minutes to get out 3 bolts because the fuckers have to come out a quarter turn at a time also, axle nuts are fucks. 36mm nuts torqued to 220+ ft/lbs that haven't been taken off in at least 20 years (aka, they're not only torqued down 220 ft/lbs, they're also rusted on at this point). here's to hoping a combination of impact gun and 1/2" breaker bar (with big ass cheater bar) doesn't leave me with a broken breaker bar or worse yet stripped axle splines. tomorrow is going to be a fun day..
Cleaned the contacts on the back of the climate control, and tried spraying some liquid wrench(couldn't find my wd-40) around the little motor that pulls on the flaps directing the air, didn't fix it. Slapped the motor a few times until some gunk started falling off, and now I have defrost again. :D I'll probably have to pull it off and really clean it though. Maybe this weekend.
I uh I found ms paint again
[t]http://i.imgur.com/f1kWg.jpg[/t] well I found out what that popping noise that keeps happening when I turn left is
My dad asked me today if I thought our yard is big enough for him to park his bus in... Luckily he was being hypothetical, and I don't think so. Thought I feel for my neighbors, Detroit diesel ideling on the front street for an hour.
Waiting on Probe to finish up with there SEMA bullshit so they can send me my goddamn pistons.. all of my other parts are in, just waiting for the pistons then off to the machine shop!
Resonators? Catalytics converters? Apsh. I'm 100% man.
Alright, so this ended up being WAY louder than I expected. It sounded super mean, but jesus christ I swear I could wake the dead with that midpipe. I put the stock muffler back on, and now it sounds like a tin can. So right now I have the choice of super-rice or super-loud. I'm going to have to fabricate something in the next couple of weeks or buy a different muffler. The midpipe did give me the midrange torque I was looking for though. Here's what it sounded like with the race muffler. It sounds badass but I set off 6 car alarms on my way out of the neighborhood and decided I couldn't run that on the street. straight piping street cars seems a bit silly to me, it's always waayy too loud
cats are unrestrictive and save my lungs :<
Stock cats are restrictive as fuck. There's still the primary catalytic converter that is a part of the exhaust manifold, it's highly restrictive and weighs close to 27 pounds.

I really need your guys' help, my trucks front brakes lock up after sitting for say 2-3 hours or if I push them down really hard, however, if I put the truck in reverse it's like they arnt even applied but the second it's put into first and I go forward it locks up again. Its hard to accelerate for about 5 meters and then they brake loose and it's good from there until I step on the brakes again. This has stumped me and my dad, and is really plaguing me for the winter, truck doesn't have ABS if that helps, front pads are newer and rotors are off another ram but with a different bolt pattern, was a direct swap and I used lots of grease.

Air in the lines can cause breaking problems. I had something similar problem on my pathfinder and it turned out to be air in the lines.

Girl I think is cute told me she drives a PT Cruiser. Was gonna lol until saw her shift like a pro with her 5speed. Also got to ride in a tuned 300ZX driven by another cute girl. Fun time I didnt expect
She drives a PT cruiser tho

She's not very playful with it though, I scared the piss out of her the first time I pulled it to 6k and took a corner a little hard. It has a stock LSD, pretty fun little car.
My uncle needed to catch a flight on Tuesday and said that I could borrow his Hyundai Elantra (2011, I think) for a week. Then he asked if I could drive standard... So, in case such a situation came up again, my dad took me out for another lesson on driving his 04 Audi A4 again, this time I actually was able to do a few laps around the parking lot without stalling the thing and went on some low-traffic roads without a lot of stops. I still suck dick at starting off and getting the car moving when it's on any sort of a hill.

That way when you let off the brake to hit the gas, you won't roll backward. Give the motor some juice, let the clutch out slowly, and as it starts to grab release the ebrake.

Turbo and all. Cats are great. Takes rasp out of the exhaust too. I don't see why people don't want that.

Heh, my car drove almost 200 miles today without issue, especially since two days ago it won't even start.
Heh, my car drove almost 200 miles today without issue, especially since two days ago it won't even start.
Where I'm at in germany it's raining and the temperature is dipping below freezing. No driving for me.
I still have a 2.25" cat on my Civic. Turbo and all. Cats are great. Takes rasp out of the exhaust too. I don't see why people don't want that.
I don't want mine because it's either finished and clogged causing my secondary o2 sensor to throw a p0420 or has an o2 sensor in it which is junk. Sure it sounds pretty damn good with the axleback off but for less than the price of a specific O2 sensor for it I can wire up one of these and slap in a testpipe. The money I save even lets me pick up a new sensor as well with a 4 wire honda plug on it for less than the price of the specific one. http://www.ubertechnics.com/o2_simulator_2.5.aspx http://www.amazon.com/NGK-24172-Oxygen-Sensor-Packaging/dp/B001PNCKK4 Paying $95 for an O2 sensor(the one most people buy at least) and getting another cat, fighting check engine lights due to poorly made aftermarket cats or just the ECU being plain mean and spending more than $150 doesn't sound as appealing as getting rid of it and never dealing with it's problems. I'm only going to run a stock muffler though, I'm not a fan of a noisy exhaust since my motor mount inserts make plenty of noise.. I did come across that s2000 mufflers seem to be pretty much thrown away even in flawless condition, they seem like they might flow better possibly or something other than looking a bit nicer than an old beat up muffler. My buddy with his S2K also pointed me to a cool little trick you can do with them to "unmuffle" them a bit which seems like a pretty cool idea. unmuffle a bit... what the fuck is that shitty idea. go full cut-out or 3" straight or go home boy. Waking up your neighbor is the shit mang I tell you my ears are made of man-hair
had an underhood electrical fire today thats the top of the alternator, the burned part on the alternator itself used to be a stud for the ground which you can see just kinda hangin out above it so i dont think it just caught fire but it kinda vaporized the thing and caught fire afterwards > saw smoke coming from around the shifter bezel > pulled over > smoke was billowing out the sides of the hood > pop it > entire front of intake is in flames > run inside the building i parked outside of > stole a guys coffee mug > filled it at the fountain > ran outside and put it out
