WOOHOO. Time to get the 4x4 and the sleds ready. "Environment Canada 3:02 PM CST Thursday 08 November 2012 Snowfall warning for City of Winnipeg issued Major snowstorm this weekend. Total snowfall amounts from this snowstorm are expected in the 15 to 25 cm range, although some pockets of up to 30 cm are possible. " W
"major snowstorm" "15 to 25 cm range" that's funny
its not the amount that makes it major, its the fact We'll get it in about 6 hours as the Colorado low passes over. The 0 visibility on the highways etc that create hazardous travel. Not like we'll have to call the military in to plow like Toronto years ago.
"major snowstorm" "15 to 25 cm range" that's funny
That's nothing
Snow is nothing. We don't usually get much here, what we get is sleet that then becomes several inches of ice. I had the great pleasure of living through the "big ice storm" oklahoma had a few years back, everything was packed in ice and we couldn't go anywhere. We were out of power for 3 or 4 weeks, and when the power did come back on, we still couldn't get out due to the residual ice and downed trees. I remember going into town with my dad when it began to clear up, having to drive extremely slow to get any traction. 4-Low in the Dodge Ram Charger, barreling through the hilly countryside that was encased in ice... It was pretty cool, really. One of those things I'll always remember. I do believe it was right before that storm I discovered I get cold urticaria, too. That was fun. And very itchy. I try to just avoid cold now.
ice is really no problem with studded tires
Thats why this is a "major" snow storm. its only gonna be between -2 and -5 celcius so the roads will be wet-ish. Being that the prairies are wide open flat area of nothing, the winds will make a mess of the roads. blowing snow creates black ice fast. It also creates very low visibility of the snowfall is heavy.
I got my car detailed today, interior is a completely different color of tan and the exterior is this odd shiny color without an entire haze of swirls, oxidization and scratches everywhere. I also had them clean up my nasty brown seatbelts and they came out perfectly clean and now retract unlike they have ever since I bought the car 3 years ago in April. Absolutely impressed by the work done. They spent 6 hours with it and it only cost $185 which at pretty much any place which were to charge for labor, anything done should cost like at least twice as much. They even cleaned my engine bay and this is the cleanest I've ever seen it.. [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5601782/IMG_20121108_160147.jpg[/t] I'm gonna have to take some decent pictures of it now, this phone takes worse and worse pictures by day...
ice is really no problem with studded tires
Michigan doesn't even allow studded tires, are roads are too shit, then again we have an army fleet of snow plows.
Every idiot out here drives around with studded tires from November til May because we get a slight dusting of snow once or twice a year and helps tear the shit out of our roads.
Studded tires are like ice on dry pavements :v:
So, been driving my new coupé for a few weeks now, it's brilliant. Couple things I've noticed though: Pulling away in 1st is somewhat juddery, no matter how careful you are with the clutch (unless you give it a boot), most noticeable in stop-start traffic where it's pretty dreadful and annoying. Any suggestions as to what this might be? Just a quirk of the car or something more serious perhaps? It's been pretty freezing past week or so in a morning, when reversing off my drive I have to put full lock on (house/drive is right on a tight corner), noticed I get a fair bit of a squeak. I suspect there's a belt that's slipping and could do with replacing, does that sound about right? It's due a service, taking it in next week, so if there's anything that needs doing I can point it out then (still covered by warranty too).

Brake fluid in the clutch cylinder too flush/service. Squeak could be several things. Belt being too loose/tight is usually the culprit

I almost was in my first real car accident. Exiting a round-a-bout and BAM a random stalled car appears. Swerve to avoid. Called the police.
but you are the police.
but you are the police.
I wasnt working. And there is NO WAY IN HELL I am stepping out of my blazer to help this dude on the road. Anyone ever flash their brights at a particularly slow driver before? Did it today for the first time, I'm usually a patient person but this fucker was driving 55 in a 65 for about 10 miles, had no opportunities to pass them but he/she had plenty of chances to get the hell out of the left lane. It was surprisingly effective, as they speed up and merged into the right lane as fast as they could :v:

So the absolute piece of garbage I bought almost a month ago is having even more problems, and I need some help from you guys. After getting the two leaking tires replaced today, they gave my keys back and after paying, I went into the parking lot and my car wouldn't start. So I went back into the shop and said I was having problems starting my car so they came out with some booster cables and shit. It didn't work because the battery wasn't dead. So the guy went back and grabbed a big steel pole and was kinda jamming it down into the engine bay somewhere while I was in the car trying to start it, and then it finally started. All he said was something about my starter solenoid possibly going bad. Now I'm at home and I went to go out and meet my buddies somewhere and of course my car wouldn't start again. I have no idea what he was doing earlier today when he was sticking a pole down into the engine bay, so I don't know how to start my car. Now, I haven't had the car for very long but it has started with absolutely no problems in the winter so far (on days just as cold as today or even colder). The fact that the shop started my car and drove it out of the shop into the parking lot and then suddenly I couldn't start it 1 minute later seems a little weird. It even started fine when I drove it to the shop just a few hours earlier. Should I go back to the shop and ask them why the fuck my car wont start now, or do you think this could be a coincidence? I'm so pissed right now. It would have been cheaper if I just kept my old gas guzzler because at least it worked. Any advice? Also any advice on what I can do to start the car? I have a midterm tomorrow morning and I don't want to fuck around with my car all morning and miss my midterm.
He was hitting the starter solenoid with the metal pole. That is a temporary remedy to the problem. You need to get it replaced.
I'll have a brand new car by the time I'm done replacing all the shit that needs to be replaced :v: Luckily a quick look on ebay says they are only around $30, but I wonder if any local stores would sell them so I could install it ASAP
Autozone, O'rileys, NAPA, Cost less, etc. etc.
