If you are looking for sporty looking, cheap, reliable, and economical I would go with the 2012 honda civic.
I just hate the look of their headlights the past couple generations...

They're damned ugly imo.
So, because i need something to do for my highschool mechanics class (there is a good amount of stuff but all too medicore such as lawnmowers) im thinking of making a frot engined rear wheel drive go kart, much like the one here:
http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?t=141322
Which seems like a fairly simple build, im tossing sround what kind of engine i will be using as this is going to be an absolute budget build for the time being. I have a 6.5 horse honda clone with a centrifugal clutch already on it and battle proven because it was on my old kart, i also have a 6.5 honda with a snowmobile style clutch on it mounted onto a crappy older go kart, the final engine i have available is a 18 hp 2 cylinder 4 stroke kohler magnum verticle mount engine on a lawnmower that can be changed to horizontal with ease, would need a clutch mounted though.
What should i go with? I really want to use the 18 hp because it sounds like a v8 and has the most power but it could be problematic to get working right.
There is nothing more satisfying then working on a challenging project and getting to experience the result.
Go with the 18hp motor.
Ridge, imo go with a newer Mazda Miata if you like sport at the same time modern design.
If not, go a couple years older with the Mazdaspeeds. Go Toyota if you want toughness in terms of repairs. If you can get a Nissan Sentra R, that thing will blow away any car in the same class since it's got dat JDM engine yo

drove accord for a month straight and no other car
drove grand prix today, holy fuck i forgot how much the car weighs and the braking sucks and the acceleration aint too great either and turning radius lol. I felt fatter myself sitting in it.
Besides that I love the damn thing
Veloster[/IMG]
I don't know is with those things... but it has a nice ass.
I really do miss Pontiac. Them and Saturn were hitting their stride when they were killed off. I'd love to get a G6 GT.
A friend of mine and I just simultaneously wrecked the engine splash guards on our accords, 98 and 02 respectively. These were two separate but surprisingly close incidents. How essential is replacing these things?
Looking at new cars...I'm looking at these 3 right now:
I've never liked the Sentra. My sister had an old 1988 model that, to compare it to trash, would be an insult to garbage. And the newer ones look like bubbles.
I really like the look of the Kia Optima, but those things are damn pricey!
The B11, B12, and B13 Nissan Sentra are some of the BEST cars out there for the buck. Having a worn out one, or a bad example of one, is no excuse to blindly hate them. They are insanely reliable, available in a 45+ MPG Diesel variant (in B11 form), or a high power SR20DE variant (in B13 form). The B12 levels performance and economy well, with half of the models available getting above 30 MPG.
Anything after B13 should be disregarded as bland and boring -- because they are. If one wanted a B14, it'd be better to just go with a 200SX at that point.
On another note, buying a NEW car is a BAD idea in this market -- used car values are bare minimum right now (if you don't trust big named dealerships), so there are deals to be had aplenty on vehicles from 3 to 5 years old, and going 6 to 10 years old you will find things INCREDIBLY cheap.
New cars driven off the lot lose 10% of their value instantly, and even undriven in the garage they continue to rapidly depreciate in value by the year. A $20,000 car you purchase now will be worth half of that in 5 years' time of ownership.

So if anything past b13s are boring, how do b14s/200sx hold up, since you mentioned them?
I know next to nothing about Sentras so I'd be learning something.
Ridge stop looking at fuel economy and saftey and buy a something with a v8
The man has a point.
This seems appropriate. :3

I was watching Top Gear's "The Worst Car in the History of the World" the other day and James May said this about the Corolla:
"What about Toyota? What about the Corolla? That's... Not a bad car is it? It's just boring"
I know my car has no balls when James May calls it boring.

Decent cars but just look at them -- they are so bland it hurts.
2.0L engine.. 115hp? how the hell
I managed to get 15 more horsepower than that in my stock 13 year old econobox Ford, with the same displacement and engine layout. :v:
out of curiosity is it bad to rev the engine of a car when it's in neutral or you have the clutch down?
out of curiosity is it bad to rev the engine of a car when it's in neutral or you have the clutch down?
don't rev it too high for too long when the clutch is in or you'll burn the clutch
afaik neutral is fine, just don't bounce off the limiter like an idiot

That coffee cup looks warped... Or its shaped weird. MOAR PICS
The manliness of the black percolated coffee inside warped it.

Revving a car with the clutch disengaged (pedal down) does nothing to the clutch, as it's not touching anything. The throw-out bearing carries the load when the pedal is down, so anyone with a good throw-out bearing should have no problem revving it while clutching or in nuetral.
To answer Banana's question: No, it isn't bad. Just don't rev it to the moon and let out on the clutch pedal or throw it into gear.
Ldesu did you buy your beetle in that great condition or did you restore it
Droped my Aunt off after she had spent the night, after cooking Thanksgiving and all that. My mom asked me to pick something from the store and half way back home from the store, and multiple stop lights later, I turned onto a side street from a turn lane at a stop light. About 50 feet down the street it was still in first gear at 30mph, probably 35-4000 RPM. I pulled over and shifted through a couple gears with the lever, put it in Neutral, park, and reverse. Those all worked, but it wouldnt shift out of first. I started rolling again, through a neighborhood almost at my rev limiter, at 9pm on a friday night. I tried shifting again, I shifted the gear selector to OD and it shifted into second, still not much but better than being stuck in first gear.

Take a look at the skyactiv hatchbacks, the sedan has a little less love from the optional extras and stuff. Out of the cars I looked at with a buddy the Mazda 3 was definitely a lot more fun to drive, decently priced and had the most power and economy out of the new cars in 2012. However everyone and their grandmother has a Mazda 3 now, that's the major downside.

2012's are shit, Honda revised the 2013.. I like my mom's 2010, it's pretty nice and is an automatic which I can actually stand driving surprisingly.

Oh banana, I can't wait for the day you buy a beetle. You don't know what you are in for. Those car's are alot of work, and you need to be really dedicated to them.
Happy valve adjustments every 3,000 miles!
