How hard is it to replace a thermostat?
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/national/holden-ute-finally-bound-for-us/story-fncynkc6-1226531297086 not actually confirmed, but mite b cool. http://blogs.insideline.com/straightline/2010/06/mercedes-benz-sls-started-out-as-the-next-generation-dodge-viper.html lol.
If they bring back the G8 ST (Holden Ute) as the Chevy SS (Or El camino 2014, who cares anyway) As soon as my loan is paid for my Comp-G and that I get at least 3 years with it, and that my credit name is top notch, I'll have one in my driveway.
How hard is it to replace a thermostat?
Depends on the car and engine
Fuck yeah, finally got everything needed, dexcool, permatex thread seal & rtv are at my friend's place though.
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/3459608585.html
AHAHAH oh my god why do people do this
because racial stereotype
I'm thinking about driving down to a U-Pull It or a LKQ scrapyard when I start taking some of my college classes at a campus near one of their scrap yards, just to see if I can get some neat crap or some spare parts - like a new front strut - for my Avalon. On their pricing page, ( http://www.u-pull-it.com/ ), it lists the "Price" and "Core" What does the "Core" mean exactly? I've seen it on the LKQ scrapyard websites as well.

We have something call U-Pull-R-Parts near my house. Pretty much the same this. http://www.upullrparts.com/
Core charge, you can return the part from your car to them and you get the core charge back. >buy alternator for $150 with $30 core charge >bring back old alternator >receive $30
Thats how it works around my city
That's how it works errwhere.
2003 PT Cruiser, my buddy needs her thermostat changed I heard it's super shitty doing cruisers, gotta remove the plenum
It's pretty cheap and simple: However you will run into other things to replaced. Gaskets, coolant, radiator cap. When you buy a thermostat, its always safer to go OEM. If not a quality brand like Stant or Failsafe. Can't hurt to use a colder thermostat too if running in hot weather
but then your cooling system is no longer operating in the way the engineers designed it to.
so what, remove hose, remove housing, scrape off gasket, replace thermostat, bleed/flush coolant etc, good to go?
so what, remove hose, remove housing, scrape off gasket, replace thermostat, bleed/flush coolant etc, good to go?
Exactly. Use the factory temp thermostat, a colder thermostat isn't good for your factory OBD2 ECU, it's very finicky about engine temps and running colder than it should would throw some flags I'm sure.
Plus, you get better gas mileage at warmer (engineer designed) coolant temps. [editline]6th December 2012[/editline]
Do any of you guys live in Southern California?
I used to about 6 months ago, where are you at? I am thinking of moving back.

It apparently just started recently so I'm wondering if the coolant is just shitty and freezes in the cold or something. I'm going over to check it out tomorrow after work, so I want to make sure it's the thermo before I get into all that.

alright well i'm going to see her tomorrow on my lunch break, so I've only got like 30 minutes to somewhat quickly check through it, she seems pretty confident it's her thermostat though what should i be looking for, check the lines for leaks/rot, look for gasket leaks/sweat? also she just told me that apparently the mechanics were going to charge her $500 for it, since getting access to the thermo requires removing the upper manifold, but I don't see why you'd have to do that unless i'm missing something it looks like you'd have direct access to the bolt holding everything onto the housing, although i wonder if there's going to be trouble getting to the outlet
what should i be looking for, check the lines for leaks/rot, look for gasket leaks/sweat?
Basic maintenance stuff: check for worn hoses, rotted clamps, wet/damp areas for leaks, rad cap spring/gasket seal. Car looks new so it can be thermo. But imo it is most likely a coolant leak somewhere or low coolant. Then again I can't tell, for all I know it blew a headgasket. The local 240SX gang that rolls around the mountain passes of South Orange County and my city. Only one missing is me and they're bugging me to finish my car:
