Nope we are perfectly allowed to criticise their choices in movies. They don't have to give two shits about our criticisms though. And if they are happy with their choices they shouldn't anyway.

Someone somewhere finding it funny is not an excuse. You could make a movie that's an hour and a half of a close up of someone's butt farting and someone would find it movie so I guess it's not a bad movie then?
Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy, 50 First Dates and even his new one, The Cobbler, all films by Sandler I've enjoyed. Sue me.
Uhhh isn't The Cobbler the one where Adam Sandler uses magic shoes to look like someone else so he could have sex with their wife? As in, he attempts rape?

Oh yes
I think it is less of a universe and more of an example of how lazy he is reusing the same jokes and same characters.
I loved click, but maybe that's because I haven't seen it in a long time.
Made me cry as a kid, and the only other movie that made me cry was toy story 3.
Happy Gilmore studios are basically following The Producers business strategy. I dont think anyone actually needs to see the movie for them to make a profit.
Surprised we havent seen an adam sandler holocaust movie yet.

Sandler's brand of humor was great in the 90's and 00's, it was an era of slapstick nonsense and toilet jokes and that's where he thrived. It's still fun stuff but just not the content moviegoers want right now

I don't get what everyone's problem with The Cobbler was. Like yeah it wasn't the best movie ever made but it was okay, and "okay" is pretty big praise for modern Sandler.

I think it's more that the protags/conflicts aren't interesting at all anymore. All his best movies took some goofy loser and threw them into a nightmare situation that naturally creates a lot of friction. Waterboy was about a sensitive dope being thrown into the world of football. Happy Gilmore was about a brash slacker type being thrown into the world of golfing. Billy Madison was about a complete idiot being thrown into school. They were fun movies because they had some really potent comedy premises.
Then there's stuff like 50 First Dates or Click, which are fine comedies, but they're kinda missing that. They made the protags a little more realistic, but made the premises a little more out-there to balance it out. They weren't quite as fun to watch but they had some nice emotional weight to them that made them feel more rounded out.
And then there's Grown Ups, Jack & Jill, and so on, which are essentially just normal people with normal conflicts. The whole fucking story of Jack & Jill is this: An ad executive has an annoying sister and they hang out. Grown Ups: Some friends reconnect and hang out. Blended: A guy goes to africa and hangs out. It's just fucking boring before you even start watching the movie.

Thus why they still make a lot of money, creating more Sandler movies. I know plenty of people who love his modern stuff, even one guy who says Waterboy is his favorite film of all time. I've never gotten a chance to ask why though.
Necessary viewing when discussing Adam Sandler movies.

and Punch Drunk Love
all of his 90s movies are a huge guilty pleasure of mine though. onward from that he stopped caring

rob schneider is completely irredeemable though, jesus christ
My friend in high school had a theory that Adam Sandler took a shit in a DVD player and that's how Click was made.
Happy Gilmore is my jam i don't care

Click isn't even close to being one of his worse movies.
Click still tries too hard to be sad and fails to be funny most of the time. It's still one of his best, though.
This is coming from a huge cry baby but I thought Click was pretty fucking sad. The idea of accidentally throwing away your entire life and relationships all because you wanted to skip a few short sessions of it is pretty depressing.
I know, maybe I'm being too critical, but the whole [sp] auto fast forward [/sp] thing just felt pushed in for the sake of making the plot sadder.
And then [sp] it was all a dream. [/sp]
[sp]It wasn't all a dream, it's pretty clear Christopher 'Angel of Death' Walker saw that Sandler learned his lesson and sent him back.[/sp]

My problem with Click is that most of the sad stuff felt very hamfisted and forced to make you feel bad for him. It's like that's what they wanted to be the really depressing stuff, "oh look, he skipped 20 years of his life and now he's a fat old asshole and his wife left him, how depressing!". However that isn't what made the movie sad to me, it was the fact that he couldn't undo any of what he was seeing unfold and everything that happened was purely out of his control. His only option to press forward and see what happens. Kinda like real life when shit happens you can't fix.
I recently watched the Ridiculous Six and enjoyed it, my confession for the day.
I am not afraid to admit, but when I volunteer at the cinema, some films are Adam Sandlers, and I will admit, that I get a laugh out of them, I find them enjoyable to watch.
I AM NOT AFRAID.
What was the one movie of his where he tells the children's stories and they end up coming real? I saw it years and years ago but I remember that one being okay.
Happy Gilmore is my jam i don't care
Have you rewatched it recently? Because I did. And it sucks and I am disgusted by my younger self.
They're good movies if you're drunk.
passed-out drunk
Little Nicky is great what are you talking about.

I've notified the proper authorities, punk.
Most of these connections are just a similar joke. Like someone mentioned KFC in a joke in few movies, therefore they must be in the same continuity? Someone makes a masturbation joke in two different comedy albums? Must make them the same universe.
The Avengers and Taxi Driver both take place in New York City, must make them the same universe. Makes just about as much sense.

I secretly enjoyed Blended because of the scenes involving Terry Crews coming up at random points to make fun of people with an entire band.

I could never exactly pinpoint why sandlers movies have been on such a decline, I have wondered what exactly differentiated them, and your post articulates it very well! You make an absolutely astute point.

The scene with Adam discovering that he completely missed out on his father's passing and going back to the last time he saw him was really well-executed imo, of course I haven't seen the movie in a while so who knows if it's held up.
Reign Over Me is a really good film but it's not something he did a whole lot of creative development on so that's probably why that's so good.
Click is an okay film, probably one of his best. The fast forward thing that was previously mentioned is more of an allusion/reference to real life, and the way people throw themselves into work and go on autopilot in their personal time, leading to broken relationships, it wasn't really about the power of the remote, it was just talking about how in real life you do the same thing if you aren't self aware of how you control your time.
If you think Click is sad then you fell for a snake oil salesman's shit.
Little Nicky is great what are you talking about.
i remember liking it as a kid, but now i can't stand his fucking voice in it, and it's not the only movie with it too
