The entire idea that "suspected terrorists" lose all rights, including the right to a trial, seems a bit extreme to me.

i'm not defending the bill by any means, actually, i'm completely against it
but i can't think of any other reason why perfectly fine politicans (like alan greyson) would vote to keep the patriot act
i think the patriot act has become somewhat of a symbol (whether it is true or not) of our first line of defense against the "terrorists". for some reason or another it's nearly impossible to be a "soft" politician. it seems to me that those who are soft are held accountable for any fuckups, while those who are "tough" politicians are praised - no matter the consequences
i'm just wondering why democrats still support the bill and these are just a few thoughts
