I know, the Surface Pro doesn't lag, actually has apps designed for a tablet sized display and still gets a better battery life than the average Android tablet.
while my nexus 7 is laggy and lacking on the app department, battery life is quite good
I love your sweater
At least he didn't buy an Android tablet.
for fuck sake man whats your grudge against android, every thread android related you come bouncing in saying how it lags yet you own a nexus 7, sure it lags but on my n7 i havent seen the real bad side of android like i did on a really shitty samsung phone [editline]10th February 2013[/editline]
Nah android tablets are pretty damn useless. This is coming from an android fan.
I like it watching tv shows, movies, listening to music and reading, some games are good for it but the app quality is shit since it blows it out to fit the screen, would be better if they took an iPad move and had a 2x button
I love your sweater
Thanks. Ok, so there's no recommendations on what apps are great.. nevermind then.
windows 8 has no apps. but you bought your tablet to run windows 7 programs, and theres a shit ton of them
Thanks. Ok, so there's no recommendations on what apps are great.. nevermind then.
It's a PC... it runs any PC program you want...? I'd recommend Steam, Skype, a new internet browser, some productivity software and some games? :v:
Why, because people jumped on me because I own an iPad? Get over yourself. I also own an RT tablet and that shit is going out to the curb.
late response but i just gotta say that you are acting shockingly stupid on topic of the surface, haven't really been keeping up with it but it looks a LOT bigger than I had remembered. looks p sleek though
If I hadn't already bought a new laptop, I would seriously consider getting one of these. They look really cool, shame about the storage capacity thou
I'm wondering, is there any good app that you can use both the pen and normal keyboard writing on? I got an app for my android tablet that when you write on the screen it shrinks and fits your scribbles on a row allowing you do draw your own signs or even hand-write whatever you want and then it fits it down to normal text size, but you can also write on the keyboard just fine. I was hoping there's something similar to use for note-taking with the surface pro. Also have they updated their traditional programs for more touch support? Like paint? office 2013?
It's a PC... it runs any PC program you want...? Like whatsapp or stuff like that.
Yes
Can i run Half Life 1 on it? or CS 1.6?
That was a prime example of how to make a good unboxing video.
Meh, I tried it out for a couple of hours at a friends house, guess it was kinda cool, but it still had too many issues to be worth anything over 350$.
I used to joke about tablets, but when I got myself a cheap secondhand iPad from a friend a year ago, I completely changed my mind. Tablets are awesome.
What's that screensaver, OP ?
The surface pro is more of a laptop/tablet rather than just a tablet. It has features of a tablet (form factor, touch screen) and features of a laptop (pc processor, a lot more powerful but this shortens battery life). You have to take this into account when comparing it against other tablets, because this is more of a hybrid rather than a tablet, so it's unfair to compare the features of the Surface Pro that are more laptop-esque features. As for all the arguments in this thread, it's always going to be the same answer; there's no best device. Each tablet has its own advantages and disadvantages. You can say the Surface Pro has no Metro apps but at the same time the iPad has little customization (without jailbreak), and you can say Android is the best because it has plenty of apps and is very open, but the openness can decrease security (There's been a few news articles about Android malware) and Android can be "laggy". So there's no right or wrong really, it's understandable why people might hate the Surface, or an Android tablet, or an iPad
What's that screensaver, OP ?
It's Flurry. I also use Rainbow Swirl. Both ported from apple OS. Seriously guys, I need some good apps. I got Gravity Guy, Skulls of the Shogun, and Last Gun. Shame there's no FF browser app. Should I use Chrome App or just stick with IE App? Also, Steam doesn't work.. To run Steam, you must first connect to the Internet error. I tried deleting and changing the ClientRegistry.blob but still doesn't work. Also let it through firewall. Is there a Surface Pro support forum or thread here?
Is this the one that can switch between desktop and tablet mode?
Can i run Half Life 1 on it? or CS 1.6?
I think the graphics card is an intel HD graphics or something, you should be able to play goldsrc games and OB engine games
Hey OP, i'm curious, what monitor is that?
OK so explain to me how the surface pro is good It has pisspoor battery life for a tablet, it weighs twice that of any other tablet, it takes up more space than an 11"ultra book when deployed, has a tiny, high-resolution screen which is fucked up by Windows' shitty DPI scaling, oh and it gets really fucking hot and you have to cough up $130 for a useable keyboard cover Whether of not I own an iPad is irrelevant to the fact that the surface pro is trash. [editline]9th February 2013[/editline] Oh and you can't charge it and have the pen docked at the same time, so better buy spares
I dunno about you, but I enjoy heavy electronics. Anything that has a low weight feels flimsy to me.
Is this the one that can switch between desktop and tablet mode?
That's the OS actually. Windows 8 can swap back and forth. It was pointless on the desktop but now I see why Microsoft did this. It really shines in the tablet. [editline]12th February 2013[/editline]
Hey OP, i'm curious, what monitor is that?
HP Compaq LA2405x. It's $250. Cheapest 1920 x 1200 monitor I could find on short notice to bring to college. Unfortunately these are dying breeds.

I kind of want that, but I know it will cost something like 1300€ here (without the keyboard) and buying it would make no sense.
When I read "silent unboxing" I thought it would be one of those really nice videos where there's no talking or anything and the only thing you hear is the absolutely wonderful sounds of cardboard sliding and paper being ripped and stuff like that, it's almost relaxing then it turned out to be some crappy mashup music still not as annoying than voiced-over unboxings I guess
search for 'asmr' on youtube you'll never run out of those videos
I was told certain tablets only have the tablet mode only.
That's the regular Surface that runs Windows 8 RT. The Pro runs full Win8. It's basically a laptop in a tablet form.

It does a lot but it doesn't do anything very well and it has a shitload of other problems. You'll get more bang for your buck with a more focused tablet or cheaper laptop.
At least he didn't buy an Android tablet.
Knowing someone owning an android tablet, and being a fan of android myself, I can say that pretty much all android tablets are below par. Their phones are pretty awesome, though. As for Windows, I really like the direction Microsoft is going. All the Win8 devices work extremely well and are stable. I have Windows 8 installed right now. The Metro interface is beautiful. At one point I was strongly considering buying a Windows phone, but I ended up not, simply because of the lack of Google integration.
