I know it's a bit early to tell, but so far 96% of reviews on the Steam page are positive. That's fucking something. So I guess Facepunch jumped on the hate bandwagon for no reason once again. You meanies.
And this seems like it can be too? Or are you just thinking "OMG HIPSTER GARBAGE SJW BAIT"?
It can but have you played it? The story is fairly bad. It falls close to deviantart fanfiction. The base idea is interesting, the execution awfully boring. A story based game with poor story is a bad game.
people on fp jumped on the hate bandwagon after the first trailer because omg that woman has blue hair lmao fuckin sjw
Or maybe because the game looked like shit in the first trailer. The trailer literally calls it an interactive indie movie. That doesn't sound like a good game. Coupled with the stupid hipster setting and it looks unappealing as fuck. And yeah, I said it. It has hipster shit all over it. The characters make cringe-worthy references to ~nerdy~ stuff like anime and Scott Pilgrim. The main character uses ~nerdy~ lingo like "kek" in text messages and wants to watch, specifically, Final Fantasy: Spirits Within on a "tasty plasma". Nobody talks like this. It's just shitty hipster writing, trying to go "ha ha, look at how OBSCURE this nerdy reference is!" wherever it can. I mean, the time travel mechanic seemed interesting (and I even said as much in the original thread), but everything else about this game looks stupid as hell.
When the part happens where she goes "Then something happened", my laptop started buffering the video and didn't stop it from continuing. Even my laptop hates this game.
The trailer literally calls it an interactive indie movie. That doesn't sound like a good game.
wait what? why not?
My personal review Life is Strange is one of those games that skew away from the normal formula of episodic games that Telltale Games has set the industry for. In this game you play as Maxine Caulfield, an 18 year old high school senior, who has returned home to her hometown of the ficitional, Arcadia Bay, Oregon. In the first half of the game you witness the murder of a student in the bathroom by the hands of another student. This is where you learn that you can reverse time in order to change the outcome of situations. This mechanic is a breathe of fresh air to the choices in games such as the Walking Dead because you can see the outcomes of all the choices you have. While this may only be the first episode, it started off strong and cannot wait to see what DONTNOD Entertainment and Square Enix come up with in the next 4 episodes. Pros: * Fantastic Characters - Believable individuals in a world that's alive * Beautiful Visuals - Sets it apart from the other games in the genre with a beautiful landscape and art style * Fantastic Narrative - Excellent composition of the characters, setting and story. Cons: * Lip Syncing Off- Syncing of the Character's voice acting and mouth movements were off ever so slightly, hopefully improved in future episodes. Episode 1 Rating: 8.5/10
i played it and enjoyed it. the time travel thing is fun just to see what happens either way but i guess also kinda makes your choices not so harsh but you can't time travel back past like, another level so i guess you still have to deal with consequences. but yeah, pretty neat game and i'm looking forward to ep 2, take that with a grain of salt though since i liked hipster garbage like gone home! and yeah some of the dialogue is pretty bad
wait what? why not?
that's why honestly the game goes for this utterly generic 'indie' hipster shit style (which in itself is fucking repugnant) and from what I've seen adopts a stock standard romanticized degrassi ass ~high school~ with inexplicable 1950s elements and shitty dialogue that from what I've seen sounds like was written by a 45 year old man who thinks that's what the kids sound like this days from literally everything I've seen about this game it looks pretentious and shallow
Nobody would willingly watch Final Fantasy: Spirits Within.

It has really fun mechanics and hope that the future episodes are written better. It is a game worth buying though, maybe not at $20. If someone wants to get it, http://www.nuuvem.com.br/produto/2591-life-is-strange-complete-season-episodes-1-5 has it for $12 USD.
I personally think it looks cool. Plus, someone will probably try to extract the models from the game and port it into Gmod or something.

Personally, I wouldn't choose "it's an interactive movie" as one of the highlighted journalist quotes to promote my video game. But I guess they're honest, at least? Either way, my point was that it didn't make the game look appealing to me, coupled with all the other impressions I've gotten from the trailers and dialog I keep seeing.

That Trailer was pretty awful, the story might be interesting enough but the way these people talk just annoy the fuck out of me.
Nobody would willingly watch Final Fantasy: Spirits Within.
It was well before it's time and has not aged well but it has it's merits. Sure the story was flawed (suppose to feel sorry for Aliens which wiped out planet because they were misunderstood or something along those lines), nothing to do with Final Fantasy and the faces were deep in uncanny valley, but the animation and visual quality for 2000/01 was really bloody impressive. And I do remember actually like some parts of it, specifically the soldiers because they looked cool as fuck at the time and the aliens / spirit things were somewhat intriguing. But the thing that i take away form the experience is the fact it was the CGI. It was a big milestone even though it was flawed tbh. Why exactly it's referenced in this game though is beyond me.

The closest it would come to is FF15 and that is clearly way ahead of when the movie came out (and it's still creatures and shit, not spirits of creatures that kill you if they touch you). Yeah I agree the CGI was amazing back when it came out but nowadays the story is very weak and the CGI isn't very impressive so again no one would willingly watch it today.
Man alive, I really don't like the theme for this game. It's not that the game can't be interesting, it might, but that setting is so insanely off-putting I don't think I would ever enjoy it. It screams hipster as fuck - the chick uses a goddamn polaroid camera for no real reason except it looks ~arty~, along with the cringe-worthy dialog. Euugh.
Yeah everyone knows Deadly Premonition is the Twin Peaks video game.
Its not just that, the story has no duck. I mean duck as in it doesn't have a bizarre surrealism to it. No one has stopped, even in the first episode of this has really shown any of the strange quirks and interactions one would expect from something like Fringe, Twin Peaks, X-Files and Deadly Premonition. Fuck's sake, you need the film noire detective sort of setting to even qualify in the four stories I named above because Twin Peaks set up the idea of FBI/Government investigating weird shit. You cannot just slap that off and put two teenage girls and state that's its equivalent. It comes off as demeaning and shallow and not only throws your own media in the dumpster but also damages the media you're referencing.
Ugh With better writers this could honestly be an incredible game.
it's still pretty good imo, just yeah, a few times where the dialogue is fuckey
episode 1 of 5

This game is just tumblr bait. It really has nothing interesting going for it. Not to mention really cringeworthy writing is around every fucking corner. "HEY MAX WANNA THRASH" [editline]2nd February 2015[/editline] I suppose interesting is subjective but still as far as original plots go, after watching the first episode, I couldn't care less about any of the characters, especially the protagonist. She's a super hipster indie girl who is obsessed with being ecofriendly and using old-timey cameras. Also she saves someone's life and they respond by going "oh ty here's a cool camera gurl :~)"
what does this even have to do with tumblr
Nobody would willingly watch Final Fantasy: Spirits Within.
Man that movie wouldn't have been half bad if they just called it Spirits Within.
Some people think that all of tumblr is just a bunch of "sjw teenage girls" when they haven't even bothered to join the site and see that it's basically whatever you want it to be. In other words, ignorant morons.
as an experience tumblr-er i can confirm that tumblr is equal parts SJW morons and depraved pornography
The Walking Dead was basically an interactive movie and it was one of the best games of the year when it came out.
yes but that's cause that was a good movie what we're debating is pretty much if this is a good movie, with some people who didn't like walking dead for its lack of gameplay and would obviously not like this game either
